2025 Transfer Portal
ScottishSteel replied to Indiana-Hawk-Wrestling-Fan's topic in College Wrestling
I recall seeing somewhere there were academic issues to clean up (don't recall the source so I'm aware it's wildly irresponsible to just regurgitate that but hey that's what the internet is for - just take this as a disclaimer) If true though, he may be tidying things up w/ summer classes and waiting to announce his transfer once the academics are taken care of -
Would be even more impressive if he did it in spite of Bono being in his corner
-
NBC does own the rights; my guess if it's anywhere it's buried in Peacock somewhere
-
Maximo Renteria would be my dark horse too AA; he's beaten an NCAA champ (Figs) and lost in OT to Spratley. The talent is there but I feel it's mostly mental hurdles
-
I wasn't critiquing it as good or bad; I was certainly no where near that level as a wrestler - just thought it was a unique tidbit.
-
and especially double asterisk for cases when Mineo appears to be demonstrating a clear bias to one side

For the most recent Oly Trials, despite being in State College all week Suriano was the last wrestler by far to pick up his credential/athlete packet etc. He didn't show up until 5 minutes before weigh ins and as best as I could tell he took an Uber to the venue in just his singlet and slides, had the Uber wait while he came in, got his credential, weighed in and then went right back out the door to his Uber. Doesn't help answer the question but that's my Suriano story and seemed as good a time as any to share it.

The vast bulk of them have graduated out - Shannon would have too if it weren't for the medical (he didn't wrestle after Nov 24th) -

Wrestlstat does say he has one last year of elgibility contingent on getting a medical for this past year 2020 - redshirt 2021 - covid free 2022 - freshman 2023 - sophomore 2024 - junior 2025 - medical 2026 - redshirt Wrestlstat does also say he wrestled in the 2019 Midlands . . . but says he went just 1-1 -
Strictly geographically speaking, his socials say Starocci is in California; specifically Malibu (or at least was over the weekend)

I coached HS in Buffalo suburbs for a few years; wrestling has an okay following in the general populace. That city loves it's hockey though and that will always take a lot of the winter sports athletes

Shannon feels like he's been around for a decade between Illinois and Michigan St; can't believe he's still got eligibility -
Glad he's still involved in the sport; injuries zapped him bad of his powers

Christian Pyles most disingenuous take.

Just wait until Oregon St wins a team natty under Pendleton! -
They made the Sidun graphic!

I know; was just easier to make a point of the two finals losses in the comment I was quoting. I believe Ben did get him once in college but that's nothing compared to Pendleton's 7 -
On the old Iowa board (not an Iowa fan just like to absorb as much wrestling content as I can), there was a thread that insinuated that Brands Bros weren't thrilled about having to share a facility they did all the fundraising for w/ a women's team and that a fair number of prominent donors shared that view; no idea how true any of that is but if it is than it would imply it's distinctly a division and not flexible cooperation . . . doesn't explain Kennedy Blades singlet though

I believe he gets a solid cash bonus every time he breaks the WR so he's just doing it in tiny increments so he can almost always break his own record and get the bonus

Mrs. ScottishSteel was a D1 400m track athlete; track is on fairly regularly and NCAAs, Worlds, Olympics is appointment viewing. I've grown to enjoy it a lot - it's pushing the limits of the human body in it's most simplest forms. Who is the fastest at X distance? Who can throw this object the farthest? etc.

The challenge is you can spout off all of Askren's stats and someone is going to be on a soap box yelling about who he lost to in his other two finals. . . and it's a valid point; Pendleton owning Askren is definitely a thing but those in the Pendleton camp will say that's all that matters. I think what Askren has that can't be quantified though is completely changing how Americans wrestle; he definitely brought scrambles/funk to the people and now basically everyone but a Cohlton Schultz type needs to know how to do what Askren was doing -

His Instagram post about it made it sound like a lot of his family has gone through the Air Force; "I am achieving a dream to be a part of a Long Blue Line that includes my family, my first wrestling coach, my friends, and family" Recruiting can be fickle; sometimes that kind of legacy is all that matters. I'm sure he saw Hendrickson's success there and wanted to be next. -

Bono has absolutely wrecked Amos; shoulda been a heavyweight years ago I'm intrigued by Carroll at Wyoming. I just kinda trust Branch to get his priorities in order (and if doesn't work there than it won't anywhere)
