  1. good point brother, if I had a chance to do this over "my fantasy list", I would have placed Logan in a 3 way tie with Jaw's & Hall, he too was on my list, probably over looked him when I was thinking of Alan Fried & Taylor....but equally as impressive in HS as Jaw's & Hall.....good call!!
  2. Paul158~ absolutely yes, to be honest I had him (Dustin) along with Helen Maroulis, Taylor Massa and a few others on my "final 10" list........ just a fun topic for us all to ponder!
  3. alright gents im gonna do it, bascally I have some extra time on my hands before SuperBowl.... I have a few ties plus an HM, dont bash me too hard for my selections, lol....... #1 Kolat~ PA #2 Phillips ~ OH #3 (tie) Marsteller PA / Alan Fried OH #4 (tie) Metcalf MI/ Joe Williams IL #5 Nikal ~ TX #6 Suriano~ NJ #7 (tie)Mocco ~ NJ / Gable Stevenson MN #8 Taylor ~ OH #9 Mike Johnson ~ PA (some say never even taken down?) #10 TJ Jaworsky ~ OK / Mark Hall MN HM....... Cael Sanderson (3 losses), Gable (64 matches total), Lee (take away the knee injury and the state title loss he's #2), Sheldon Thomas DE, Bo Jordan OH, David Carr, Jason Nolf (Ryan Diehl loss keeps him from top 3)....Kyle Snyder would be top 5, only wrestled 3 years MD
  4. great points aboout Gable, Marsteller & Duke either could be there and I am quite certain there are some who say they are #1, you wont hear me complaining thats for sure...... for me #1 would be Kolat #2 would be Chris Phillips and than after that many will be mixed in for #3 - #10 I will say Chris may or may not have peaked, very doubtful me personally I belive he may have become "burnt out/not challenged" (which could be similar and the same as peaked), what I will say is many if not most found it better to survive vs Chris than to try and wrestle with him after his Freshmen year, nothing for nothing I believe more simply stayed away from his weight class to avoid him...... Tom Ryan said it best when I ran into him a few years ago when OSU was at Davidson...... I asked him hey I heard Chris is looking @ OSU and may be on the roster in the future, I asked him does he start if everything works out "he simply said nobody will touch Chris if everything works out, he is simply dominating everyone, the same as he did in HS he is doing in college" he left it with............ "he something special"
  5. I agree, kid was just an absolute mega talent, someone said it better than I.....very similar to Kyle Snyder in fact probably identical.....hey as long as that youngman is doing well and I hope he is...... yes that HS team they came from was scary good IF my memory is correct Stiebers' (x2), Cam Tessari and Chris Phillips!
  6. wait, being honest and straight forward BB will be 19 when he graduates from HS, seriously or is this???? doesnt change how much talent he has just just makes it less impressive, personally I was 17 and 9 months old when i graduated, at 19 i was totally different...for the better! its not like i havent heard of this (kids being much older while still in HS) before if we are being honest, i just didnt know BB was, well basically a Freshmen in college age wise but only a Junior in HS!
  7. "Truzzcat" ~ good point sounds like you know your stuff, I remember Kolat wrestled a 4x MD state champion and tech'd him, I believe Kolat held his own in Midlands while in HS, I wish I knew the exacts for some reason I wanna say he wrestled Chertow while Kolat was still in HS @ Midlands and went toe to toe with him....anywho they all could kick my butt, quite easily too I might add..... "pokemonster" ~ I remember the Roddy match very well finals @ Ironman 2007 (171lbs), Roddy number #1 or #2 in the country, chris also beat the # 3 kid in the country @ Ironman to get to Roddy, actually destroyed him, than destroyed Roddy in 2007 did not even give up a take down to either, crazy talent as a freshmen
  8. since alot of attention is being generated about BB, just thought i would add a fun topic to ponder! Many of us consider to this day Cary Kolat to be the best HS (and top 20 college) wrestler of all time, I too agree with Cary being the top dog ever in HS it was just amazing to see him in HS (although I would say Chris Phillips was a close 2nd, only HS loss was 3-2 his freshman year to Senior Ed Ruth, Chris actually controlled the match completely, Chris was unchallenged, 175-1, BTW~does anyone know whatever happened to him) in your opioin has anyone surpassed Kolat as the greastes HS wrestler of all time? Of course I start this topic for good conversations and potential visits back to memory lane! thoughts of a matchup in their HS days has me curious......... Kolat vs Bassett My take is Kolat is still the best HS wrestler ever.... Cary was than and still is now a different type, an absolute beast among beast!! Thoughts from some old school wrasslers!
  9. Love these types of threads....here's my thoughts! #1 is always gonna be easy, the hard one is #2, since Dake seems to be a good choice he also had what I believe is a few lucky events the absolute #1 event is Caldwell not being able to wrestle (finish) his Senior year where he would have most likely met Dake bad injury (skate boarding i believe), I personally do not believe Dake a freshmen would have won over a returning National CHamp in Caldwell.... #2 is the timing of when he wrestled DT, Dake style against DT would 100% be stalling in todays world, Dake would have been forced to wrestle which means more scrambles vs DT, Dakes defense was just as good as DT offense, I do not believe Dakes "motor" was as good as DT, eventually the getting to the edge and wrestle or scramble out would have be cautioned as stalling and forced Dake to wrestle more, today world DT would most like win over a Dake simply because of the backing out and consistantly wrestling from the edge (as Ferrari did vs Carter, Dake did the same vs DT)...... with that being said and I only mention Dake lucky breaks simply because all the others contenders had a few hiccups, lets not forget Dake had a few lucky dog events that helped him get 4x, my thought is this Dake does not beat Caldwell and he wrestle DT at the right time in college wrestling, todays rule would force Dake to come forward instead of get to the edge and counter everything and if you get into trouble just go out and get a fresh backup start and counter better next time!!!! #1 is Cael thats easy the rest is hard they all have luck dog events to help #2 Dake #3 (Tie) Stieber & Yanni #4 Starocci #5 Brooks
