  1. Nationally ranked Fox Baldwin (Osceola, Fla.) gave a verbal commitment to the University of Virginia. Baldwin, ranked No. 8 at 152 pounds, is a three-time state champion. He recently set the national record for pins in a high school wrestling career. He wrote the following in an email. My dad and I had a plan to find the right university for me. That plan was to build a relationship with the coaches, visit the universities then in the fall go on my five official visits and then sign in November. There were several great universities that I had been building relationships with. Cornell, Duke, Harvard, Virginia Tech, Duke, Penn State, Missouri all had great programs that I was calling and emailing the coaches and building that important relationship. There were more colleges that I was starting to correspond with Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Lehigh, Nebraska, Brown, where all great options. What made my decision so tough was the coaches were not allowed to call me or invite me on an official visit until the fall of my senior year. My first goal was to surround myself with coaches, teammates and people who share the same beliefs. I have been very blessed to always have that support system my whole life. A big part of my success is from all of the people who encourage, support and pray for me. Without Jesus and my support team I would not have had near the success that I have had. My second goal was to find the university that will provide me with education and tools to be prepared for my career and life after wrestling. I want to help this country that I love (part of what drives me to win an Olympic gold medal). I want to become servant of this country and serve the people as a lawmaker and lead this country as our President. My third goal was to find the university that will give me the best opportunity to become a four-time NCAA national champion and Olympic gold medalist. After many, many hours of prayer and talking to my support team I had made the decision. My father wanted me to wait to be certain and take my visits. However I knew I had made up my mind. I felt it was not fair to all the great coaches and programs to let them think I was still interested when my mind was a 100% sure where I must go. It was not fair to all the hard working and deserving wrestlers that a university may be holding back with another recruit because of me. I could not be selfish like that. I love the opportunity to be a pioneer, to pave the way for others and to set records. The decision was clear. Although there has never been a President of the United States that has attend the University of Virginia. The University of Virginia has everything in an education, tradition, location and connections to produce their first and the best President ever. The University of Virginia has never had a NCAA national champion in wrestling. The University of Virginia has everything needed great coaches, great facilities, university support, fan support for me to become a four-time NCAA national champion. I know that the University of Virginia will provide me with support and do anything they can to help me bring a gold medal home in the 2020 Olympics that we just saved! I want to thank my support team for helping me to get where I am and to where I am going. A special thank you to Diana Baldwin, Pete Baldwin, Jim Bird, Javier Maldonado, Rick Tribit, Don Cash, Jose Vazquez, Petey Baldwin, Kaitlin Birchler, Scott & Tammy Birchler, Bob & Lynn Birchler, Russell & Sharon Thompson, Todd Andrew, Jim Bird Sr., Jeanette Bird, Lerty Burnette II, Randy Butcher, Raymond Chambers, Frank Cousins, Kevin Donofrio, Becky Doran, Dave Doran, Leslie Downs, Rick Dozier, Bobby Douglas, Caeser Sharbono, Cathy Fineran, Bill Grant, Scott Gomrad, Thomas Harrison, Kris Hayward, John Hinsey, Richard Jones, Chris Kelly, Al Key, Fred Key, Gene Key, Glenda Key, James Key, Brian Kells, Dennis Kitko, Gerald Harris, Joanne Mears, Juanita Miller, Mike Palazzo, Markus Paridon, Rick Pedone, Mark Prince, Mike Porcelli, Eric Scrivens, Gary Sherman, Carter Shipley, Russell Shipley, Tara Shipley, Ron Shulz, Aris Rogers, Keith Wallace, Lee Wasson, Paul White, Steven Whiteacre, Mishelle Whitmire, Marc Wohltman, Steve Williams. I would also like to thank all my teammates and training partners. Most importantly I would like to thank God.

Youtsey chose down to start the second period and escaped to a 3-2 lead with 1:40 on the clock. The Wolverine worked to control Conaway's shoulders for the first minute with Conaway able to force a stalemate at the :40 mark. Conaway then rolled through another high shot and forced a scramble with :30 left. He then finished off the takedown and led 4-3 after a short ride out. Conaway chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 5-3 lead. Youtsey shot quickly and Conaway backed out of reach, holding his 5-3 lead at the 1:30 mark. Conaway once again gained control of Youtsey on a low single and steadily worked his way to a takedown with :52 on the clock. Leading 7-3, Conaway controlled the Wolverine until the :20 mark. Continuing with his offense, Conaway tacked on one more takedown to post the strong 9-4 win. 133: Red-shirt freshman Jimmy Gulibon (Latrobe, Pa.), ranked No. 16 at 133, met sophomore Rossi Bruno. Gulibon stalked the middle of the mat, looking to control the pace during the early going. The Lion freshman connected on a swift low single for a takedown and a 2-0 lead at the 1:23 mark. Gulibon rode Bruno out and led 2-0 after one. Gulibon chose down to start the second stanza and quickly escaped to a 3-0 lead. Gulibon deftly countered a Bruno throw attempt, took the Wolverine to his back and with the five-point move led 8-0 at the 1:21 mark. 5. NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Navy wrestling team sent eight wrestlers to the championship, where they won three individual titles en route to the Mids winning their 13th overall All-Academy Championship, including their sixth in a row. Nine of the Mids' 10 wrestlers placed among the top three as the Mids proved to be the better team on Saturday afternoon at Merriman Gym in Roland Hall in New London, Conn. Navy stood atop the leader board with 108.5 pounds with three champions, while The Citadel fell in as the runner-up with 92.0 points and crowned four individual champions. Air Force finished third with 83.0 points and two champs, followed by Army with 71.0 points (1 champ), VMI (17.5), the Merchant Marine Academy (16.5), Norwich (6.5) and Coast Guard (2.0). "I'm really proud of how our team has wrestled in the last couple of weeks and their hard work is translating," said Navy interim head coach Brian Antonelli. "We had a huge semifinal round and while we might not have wrestled quite to our abilities in the finals, the guys got the job done. "I do want to say a special thank you to the Coast Guard Academy who did a phenomenal job of hosting the tournament this year and made it special for all of the teams. I thought it was just a class act tournament all the way around and appreciated the efforts the school put forth." Navy has been the dominant team in the 20-year history of the tournament, winning 13 of the 20 championships including 10 of the last 11. The Mids have won 78 individual crowns in All-Academy Championship history, including 52 of the 110 titles over the last 10 years. The Mids won the team title in 1995, '97, '99, '04, '05, '06, '07, '09, '10, '11, '12, '13 and '14, while they claimed five or more individual titles in 1997, '99, '04, '05, '07, '08, '10, '11 and '13. Navy had four returning title winners from last year's All-Academy Championship in action. Junior 133-pound Colton Rasche (Plano, Ill.) who came into the match nursing an injury, but looked healthy in winning his second All-Academy Championship title in as many years. Rasche opened with a 19-4 tech fall over Merchant Marines' Issac Hammonds and posted a 14-6 major decision over Army's Logan Everett in the semis. Rasche, who has reached the 20-win milestone for the first time in his career at 20-9, claimed the title with a 12-3 major decision over Air Force's Gregory Rinker. It's the fourth consecutive year Navy has won the 133-pound weight class at the All-Academy Championship. "Colton wrestled a smart match against Rinker in the championship," said Antonelli. "Rinker is an all-around good athlete and Colton did a nice job of working the match in his direction." Sophomore 174-pound Mathew Miller (Edgewood, Md.) also won his second All-Academy Championship title in as many tries by way of a medical forfeit by Army's Brian Harvey in the championship bout. Miller, though, had little trouble in finding his way to the championship, pinning The Citadel's Terrell Forbes in 1:31 and Josh Miller of the Merchant Marine Academy in the semis in 2:06. Ranked 15th nationally, Miller was the only wrestler in the tournament who won two matches by way of fall. A year ago, Miller became just the eighth freshman in school history to win an All-Academy crown as a rookie. "Mat is a two-time champion here and that's not an easy thing to do," added Antonelli. "His pin points really helped the team. He's been healthy the past few weeks and you can see that coming through in the results on the mat." Navy's final title winner was junior Paul Rands (Cary, Ill.) who scored a solid 4-1 victory over Army's Bryce Barnes in the championship. Rands, who has won five consecutive matches, pinned Phillip Azzari of Coast Guard in his first match of the day before punching his ticket into the championship via a 7-3 victory over Air force's Robert Isley. Rands, who placed fourth at the 2012 All-Academy Championship, is a first-time title winner at the event. "I'm so proud of Paul. He's a talented wrestler who has had to fight and scratch his way through his first few years here," said Antonelli. "His win over the Barnes kid is big. It's big in terms of his confidence, but Barnes is coming off a couple of big wins himself over the last few weeks. Paul just continues to get better every weekend and I'm so proud of his progress." Five Mids placed second in their matches on Saturday, including two who lost to nationally-ranked foes. Senior Joe Locksmith (Kissimmee, Fla.) came up short at 141 pounds where he lost a 7-3 decision to 12th-ranked Ugi Khishignyam of The Citadel. Meanwhile, junior 165-pound Peyton Walsh (Glen Allen, Va.) dropped a tough 4-2 decision to 11th-ranked Turtogtokh Luvsandorj of The Citadel. It's the second time this season Walsh has lost a two-point decision to Luvsandorj. "Peyton is closing the gap on the young man from The Citadel (Luvsandorj)," Antonelli said. "He's wrestling well for us right now and while he came up short in his finals match, he's continuing to work and correct the small things in his matches." Meanwhile, sophomore 157-pound Bobby Burg (Gasport, N.Y.) stumbled in the championship match where the All-Academy Championship's Most Outstanding Wrestler, Aaron Walker, dealt Burg a 2-1 loss. Burg wrestled a solid tournament, turning in a 10- major decision over Norwich's Evan Poole and pinning Army's Paul Hancock (3:07). Navy lost its remaining two championship bouts by way of injuries. Freshman 125- pound Brenden Campbell (New Castle, Ind.) earned his way into the championship thanks to wins over Coast Guard's Earl Roberts (Fall, 4:19) and The Citadel's Joaquin Marquez (10-7), but was forced to sit out the championship against fourth-ranked Josh Martinez of Air Force. Senior 149-pound Raymond Borja (Virginia Beach, Va.), who was the hero of Navy's dual against North Carolina a week ago, sustained a leg injury against Matt Frisch of The Citadel with under a minute to go in the championship bout. Borja earned his way into the finals thanks to back-to-back major decisions over Jack Walsh of the Merchant Marine Academy and Army's Mark Marchetti. Placing third for the Midshipmen at 184 pounds was senior team captain James Mannier (Troy, Ohio). After dropping a 5-3 sudden victory decision to Army's Samson Imonode in the semifinals, Mannier came back to score a 7-3 decision over Samual Fry of the Merchant Marine Academy in the consolation semis and posted an 8-5 decision over The Citadel's Kenneth Radford in the third-place bout. The Midshipmen return to action next Saturday when they make the trip to the nation's capital where they will face American at 7:00 pm. 7. OREM, Utah - Utah Valley managed to overcome a late 18-10 deficit to defeat Boise State 23-18 in come-from-behind fashion Saturday evening in front of 1,785 fans at the PE Building. The victory marked UVU's (4-6, 0-0 WWC) third straight home win over the Broncos (3-7, 2-3 Pac-12). Ninth-ranked J.T. Felix gave BSU a late 18-10 lead after pinning UVU freshman Richard Larsen at heavyweight with three bouts to go. But sophomore Jade Rauser (125 pounds) immediately responded for the Wolverines in his first match back from an injury with a 10-1 major decision over Sandy, Utah native Rami Haddadin to cut the deficit to 18-14. Sophomore 133-pounder Chasen Tolbert then gave UVU its first lead of the contest by pinning Ben DeMuelle just 49-seconds into his bout. Tolbert picked up the quick fall after catching DeMuelle in a cradle. With the Wolverines holding to a slim 20-18 advantage, senior 141-pounder and Boise native Avery Garner took the mat for UVU to take on three-time NCAA qualifier Brian Owen. Garner didn't waste any time as he came out looking to score right out of the chute. The UVU senior picked up two first-period takedowns to jump out to a 4-1 lead in the final match of the evening. After a scoreless second period, Garner then finished off the victory with another takedown in the final period to pick up a huge 6-3 win over Owen. "We knew there were going to be a lot of close matches tonight," UVU head coach Greg Williams said. "We didn't expect to lose a couple of the matches that we wound up dropping, but I was very pleased with how our final three guys wrestled. Jade and Chasen gave us the spark that we needed and Avery really capped it off for us." Boise State jumped out to a 12-0 advantage in the early stages of the contest after winning the first three matches. The Wolverines countered, however, with three straight wins of their own to make it a 12-10 affair after six bouts. Senior 174-pounder Monte Schmalhaus got things going for UVU with a 9-0 major decision over Austin Dewey. Junior 184-pounder Ethan Smith followed that up with a hard fought 8-5 decision over Andrew Tiedman and sophomore 197-pounder Derek Thomas capped the rally with a 5-3 overtime win over Cody Dixon. Thomas trailed Dixon 3-2 with seconds remaining in the third period but Thomas was awarded a point for stalling after Dixon tried to flee the mat. The Wolverine sophomore then won the bout with a takedown in the first sudden victory period. In all, the Wolverines won six of the 10 bouts to pick up the victory over the Broncos. "We dealt with some adversity tonight with Adam Fager being out with an injury, but Derek Thomas really came through for us with his overtime victory," added Williams. "I'm proud of this team. This team has done of nice job of being able to battle through a number of misfortunes and keep their chins up." The victory marked Utah Valley's second of the season over a Pac-12 opponent. UVU will remain home next week to begin its Western Wrestling Conference slate against South Dakota State on Thursday and No. 21 North Dakota State on Friday. Utah Valley will then hit the road the following week to face Northern Colorado (Feb. 12), Air Force (Feb. 14) and Wyoming (Feb. 15). 13. LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Rider wrestling fans are hoping Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow Sunday, so they will have six more weeks of wrestling the way the Broncs wrestled Saturday. In a doubleheader with Duke and Sacred Heart, Rider won 14 of the 20 bouts to sweep the day. The day started with the Rider community congratulating head coach Gary Taylor for his recent 400th career win. Taylor is one of just two active coaches to have compiled 400 wins at a Division I institution. Now Taylor has 402. For Rider (12-5), sophomore Robert Deutsch (Cherry Hill, NJ/Eastern Regional), junior Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights, N.J./Gateway), freshman Paul Kirchner (Somerville, NJ/Somerville), sophomore Conor Brennan (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) junior Clint Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and sophomore Greg Velasco (Union Beach, NJ/Keyport) all won twice Saturday. Morrison won both of his matches by major decision. “Clint is training hard and working hard and keeps getting better,” Taylor said. Deutsch, ranked 15th in the nation, won twice by forfeit. Against Duke, Velasco won at heavyweight for the final score. “Greg looked good today,” Taylor said. ‘I thought he wrestled a very smart match (against Duke). In the second match (against Sacred Heart) he was able to show some of his athleticism.” “I felt pretty good today,” said Velasco. “I like it when it comes down to my match to decide the win, with the pressure on the line. I get more energized to win. I like being the last guy.” Morrison won a major decision to give Rider a 19-12 lead over the Blue Devils. Brennan won to break a 12-12 tie. “Conor is a very good wrestler and very aware, one of the more aware wrestlers we have right now, in terms of seeing what is there when it is there and he doesn’t hesitate.” Zeisloft and Kirchner won back-to-back to give Rider a 12-0 lead over Duke. “Chuck did a nice job,” Taylor said of his 133 pounder. “The Duke wrester was pretty good. When the shots were there Chuck got the takedowns.” Kirchner returned from an injury to collect a pair of wins. “Paul’s timing and conditioning are still off for being out for 30 days,” Taylor said, “so he’s working hard in practice. He’ll come back around.” For Duke (4-9), Marcus Cain won at 165 to tie the score at 12-12. Connor Bass upset 20th ranked sophomore Curt Delia (Mullica Hill, NJ/Delsea) to cut the Rider lead to 12-6. Immanuel Kerr-Brown won at 157 to improve to 17-7 on the season. Conner Hartmann won a major decision at 197 to cut the Rider lead to 19-16. Rider had never faced Duke in wrestling before. “That was a good match,” Taylor said. “The Duke kids wrestled hard and took a couple of our guys out of their game-plan. We were fortunate that some guys stepped up in the upper weights.” Against Sacred Heart (2-7) senior Ramon Santiago (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville) won by tech fall and Brennan won by fall. Velasco, Morrison and Zeisloft won by major decisions and Delia won to give Rider a 16-0 lead. Rider and Sacred Heart are former ECWA and CAA opponents. Rider and Scared Heart have now met 13 times since the series began in 2000-01 with Rider winning all 13, including 57-0 last year and 44-3 in 2011-12. Rider travels to Drexel February 7. “We’re going to work hard and get ready for them,” Taylor said. “It should be a tough match,” Velasco said. “We’ll need all 10 guys to go out and wrestle hard.” Six more weeks, before the NCAA Division I Championships in Oklahoma City, OK. 14. CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Panthers protected their perfect record with wins over Ohio (25-15) and South Dakota State (29-12) in the West Gym today. UNI improved to 9-0 in duals and 5-0 in the Mid-American Conference. It’s the best start UNI has had since 1969 when the Panthers went 8-0 and settled for a tie in their ninth dual. The Panthers haven’t had an undefeated season since 1956 under Bill Koll. UNI took 10th at nationals that year. Three Panthers earned bonus points in both of their duals, and Cooper Moore earned one pin on the day. “The guys that scored points, scored a lot and were fun to watch,” said head coach Doug Schwab. “We just need to find a way to win those other matches. We evaluate and get better next week. We need more pep and life. We need to do a better job to get them ready.” No. 1 Joe Colon (133 pounds) added two more technical falls to his record, making it eight on the season. Coming into the dual, he was fifth in the nation at the Division I level for tech falls this year. “He’s scoring points,” said Schwab. “He did a good job moving in and out and create more offense. He looked really good.” At 125 pounds, Dylan Peters earned two more pins to launch him into the top 10 among all Panthers with the most falls in a single season. Ryan Loder earned two tech falls to give the Panthers a strong start at 184 pounds in both matches. OHIO VS. UNI (25-15) Ohio’s head coach Joel Greenlee, a two-time all-American for the Panthers, returned to the West Gym to coach against his former team. Greenlee still holds a spot in the top 10 in every category for the Panthers, including most career dual victories and best career winning percentage. He is also still the leader for most dual victories in a season with 20. SOUTH DAKOTA STATE VS. UNI (29-12) UNI is now up in the series with their former conference foe, 37-3-1. SDSU is in the Western Wrestling Conference, which UNI abandoned last year. This is the first season the Panthers have implemented a full MAC schedule. After a scoreless minute of sudden victory, Gonzalez earned a reversal in the first 30-second overtime period to take a 3-1 advantage. Kolb managed an escape in the second 30-second period but it wasn’t enough. Heavyweight Collin Jensen responded in the next match with a 3-1 decision over Chris Lopez. After a scoreless opening stanza, Lopez earned a second-period escape before Jensen answered with one of his own in the third period. With time winding down, Jensen took down Lopez at the buzzer to emerge with a victory and give NU an 18-7 lead. 17. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- No. 15 Cashé Quiroga’s fall at 133 pounds proved to be the difference maker as No. 24 Purdue won its fourth straight dual over its instate rival Indiana, 18-16, in Memorial Gym Friday. Four other Boilermakers were victorious as Purdue pushed its season record to 6-5, 1-5 Big Ten. The loss leaves the Hoosiers still seeking their first win in Big Ten dual action at 7-7, 0-6 Big Ten. “I thought tonight was exciting in terms of how the match score played out,” head wrestling coach Scott Hinkel said. “The wrestlers were cautious; you could see how the team score was developing and bottom line was that it came down to bonus points. It could have gone either way. It was a great dual with a great crowd and a great environment with a lot of tight matchups. All of the wins were huge tonight, when it comes down to team score. “Both teams wrestled hard and we’re fortunate to come out on the winning end of it,” Hinkel said. “Now we get ready to go Monday night [against Ohio State]. We’ll have the same approach, but we have to look to score more and push the tempo. Hopefully we will have a great environment in Holloway [Gymnasium] since it’s live on the Big Ten Network.” The instate rivals split matches at five each. Indiana took an early 6-0 lead by posting a pair of decisions at 157 and 165. Patrick Kissel got the Boilermakers on the board with an 8-2 decision of Matt Irick at 174. The redshirt junior from Sheboygan, Wis., used a pair of first period takedowns, added another in the second period and accumulated 2:34 in riding time en route to his 11th win of the season. The Hoosiers added to their lead as Luke Sheridan notched a 5-3 decision over Purdue’s Tanner Lynde at 184. No. 12/14 Braden Atwood brought Purdue within three points at intermission, 9-6, by shutting out Cheney Dale, 3-0. Hailing from Delphi, Ind., Atwood escaped to start the second period and took Dale down with five seconds remaining in the bout to give him a 21-6 mark in his redshirt junior campaign. Purdue won three of the five matches coming out of the break, starting with Camden Eppert’s 9-3 decision of Alonzo Shepherd at 125. A takedown by Shepherd and a reversal by Eppert sent the pair deadlocked at 2-2 heading into the second stanza, where the redshirt senior Boilermaker exploded for five points with a reversal and a three-point nearfall for a 7-2 advantage. Shepherd was warned and called for stalling during the final two minutes to award Eppert with a point. He also earned 2:30 worth of riding time to improve his season record to 10-9. With the two reversals, the Anderson, Ind., pushed his career total to 39 and is one reversal shy of tying Bob Piccchiotti for fourth on Purdue’s all-time list. Quiroga (11-4) stepped out onto the mat with the Boilermakers trailing 13-9 and he wasted no time getting to work on Chris Caton. He took the freshman Hoosier down four times in the opening three minutes and three more times each in the second and third periods with a technical fall in sight. Quiroga took Caton down for a third time midway through the final period, pushing his lead to 20-8. In that last takedown, Quiroga locked in and got the pin at the 5:54 mark to put Purdue ahead, 15-13. The fall is the third of his redshirt senior campaign and 10th of his career. He took Caton down 10 times, pushing his career total to 357 to hold at No. 5 on the all-time list and is five takedowns out of a tie for fourth with Frank Laccone (362). “The pin was big for Cashé, especially after he got caught last week,” Hinkel said. “He remembers wrestling [Indiana’s] Angel Escobedo as a freshman and having one of their seniors put it on him. He came out swinging tonight doing the same thing.” The Boilermaker lead extended to 18-13 courtesy of Danny Sabatello’s 6-4 decision of Trevor Moody at 141. A pair of first period takedowns gave the redshirt sophomore a 2-1 edge. Sabatello opted to take bottom to start the second period and was unable to escape from Moody’s hold. The Indiana redshirt freshman escaped in the third, making the score 4-2 and managed to take Sabatello down to tie it up at 4-4. 20. LEWISBURG, Pa. -- For the fourth time in the last five duals Bucknell wrestling 285-pounder Joe Stolfi took to the mat with a chance to tie the score or put the Bison ahead and for the fourth time during that stretch he succeeded Friday evening in a 21-18 victory over American in Davis Gym. The junior defeated Blake Herrin by a 5-0 score to break an 18-18 deadlock and help Bucknell improve to 6-8 overall this season and 3-2 opposite EIWA competition. Stolfi, who is ranked 20th nationally and improved to 22-6 on the year, recorded pins to lift the Bison to home victories over Brown and Clarion two weeks ago. Last Friday his pin evened the score at Columbia and he continued the clutch performances against American and Herrin as he won his seventh consecutive bout. In contrast to most of Stolfi’s bout this year, Friday’s went the full seven minutes. It was scoreless through two periods with Stolfi having a two-minute riding time advantage. He chose down to begin the third period and earned an immediate escape. Less than a minute later he scored a takedown that gave him a 3-0 advantage over a struggling Herrin, who was whistled for stalling to make the score 4-0. The riding time point lifted Stolfi to the 5-0 win and the Bison to their third home win of the season in five tries. “We are always confident when the match comes down to him,” said Bison head coach Dan Wirnsberger about Stolfi. “His preparation is spot-on and he is a tough, gritty competitor.” Bucknell and American (6-6, 4-4 EIWA) alternated wins and losses over the first seven bouts in the match. The Bison held a 12-9 lead at that point thanks to an injury default by the Eagles at 165 pounds. A pin by American’s Jason Grimes at 184 lifted the Eagles ahead by an 18-12 margin, but a second injury default at 197 by nationally ranked Daniel Mitchell and Stolfi’s decision brought Bucknell back ahead. Freshman Grim Gonzalez earned the first win of the day for the Bison at 133 pounds. The score was tied 1-1 entering the final 30 seconds of the bout and he responded with the first takedown in the match. A late escape by Esteban Gomez-Rivera closed the final gap to 3-2. “We still have some work to do at some weight classes and we’re excited about others,” mentioned Wirnsberger. “While Stolfi won the deciding bout, Grim Gonzalez was probably the MVP of this match. He beat a tough opponent and has continued to improve every week.” Fellow freshman Victor Lopez earned the second win of the day for Bucknell. He led Mark Cirello 6-2 after two periods and added a reversal and more than two minutes of riding time for a 9-5 victory for his third consecutive win. Rustin Barrick (165) and Tyler Lyster (197) each earned six points toward the Bison team score thanks to injuries by their opponents. Barrick held a commanding 12-3 lead with just over 30 seconds left in his bout when Cristian Masaya was forced to withdraw, while Lyster was ahead 3-2 when Mitchell conceded to injury. Bucknell, which equaled its win total from all of 2012-13, snapped a three-match losing streak against American. The Bison now hold a 19-4-1 edge in the all-time series. Friday’s match was the first of a busy weekend for Bucknell, which wrestles at George Mason (9 a.m.) and No. 13 Virginia (2 p.m.) on Sunday. Results: 125: No. 8 David Terao (A) dec. 21. CLARION, Pa. -- Clarion won six of ten bouts, and heavyweight Evan Daley (Erie/Fort LeBoeuf) sealed a Golden Eagle with a key victory on Friday night as the Golden Eagles defeated Lock Haven 18-12 in NCAA Division I Wrestling. Held at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium, Clarion raised its overall record to 7-10 and 1-2 in the EWL, while Lock Haven dropped to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in the EWL. With Clarion leading 15-12 going to heavyweight, the Golden Eagles needed a win by Evan Daley to secure victory. Daley came through. The Golden Eagle freshman scored a first period takedown to lead 2-1 after the first, then escaped and scored a big duck under takedown in the second to post a 5-1 lead after two periods. Daley rode Cody Mason the entire third period for a 6-1 in and a Clarion victory. "We really wrestled well as a team tonight," said Clarion second year head coach Troy Letters. "The six wins were important, but even in our losses we were very competitive and wrestled smart." Clarion won four of the first five bouts to lead 12-3. At 125 freshman Hunter Jones (New Rochelle, N.Y.) decisioned Kaleb LeMaire 8-2, and at 133 Sam Sherlock (Jr. West Mifflin) notched a 3-2 win over Cody Wheeler to put Clarion in front 6-0. After Tyler Bedelyon (Sr. Lewistown) lost a 5-1 decision to Dan Neff at 141, Clarion's duo of Justin Arthur (Fr. Huntington, W.V.) and Austin Matthews (Fr. Greenville/Reynolds) at 149 and 157 came through with big wins. Arthur defeated Mac Maldarelli 7-4 at 149. Tied 4-4 in the third, Arthur escaped and scored a takedown for the win. Matthews meanwhile won 5-2 over Billy Randt at 157 with a first period takedown and a reversal in the second. LH's Jake Kemerer decisioned Michael Pavasko (Fr. Munhall/Steel Valley) 14-7 at 165 – but Pavasko's reversal with six seconds left in the bout saved Clarion a big team point. Maybe the biggest match of the night came at 174, where Ryan Darch (Jr. Batavia, N.Y.) won a key 3-0 decision over Dylan Caprio. Darch scored a two-point near fall in the second using a half-nelson. His third period escape proved to be the final points in the 3-0 win – giving Clarion a 15-6 lead. Clarion's Dustin Conti (Fr. Jefferson/Jefferson-Morgan) lost a 10-3 decision to Fred Garcia at 184, with a late escape by Conti again saving a team point, and Daniel Sutherland (Jr. North Bellmore, N.Y.) lost a 9-4 decision to Phil Sprenkle at 197 pulling Lock Haven to within 15-12, and setting up Daley's winning bout. Clarion returns to Tippin Gym on Saturday to wrestle EWL newcomer George Mason at 2pm, then travels to Bloomsburg for a 2pm match on Super Bowl Sunday. 22. YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Kent State won four of the final five matches in an 18-12 victory over Eastern Michigan Friday night. The Eagles led 9-6 at the midway point, in what would be their first loss of the season at Bowen Field House. The Golden Flashes (9-8) improved to 3-2 in Mid-American Conference duals, while defeating EMU for the 30th straight time. "We wrestled well, but not great," Head Coach Jim Andrassy said. "And we need to get to great. There were several matches where we looked good in two periods, but not three." The Eagles (8-6) led 6-0 after a pair of close victories at 125 and 133. Junior Tyler Small put the Flashes on the board with a 7-3 victory over Nick Barber. Sophomore Michael DePalma followed with a 5-0 shutout, but Eastern Michigan took the lead back at 157 with Ian Miller out the Flashes' lineup. "I think if Ian wrestles, it's a seven-point difference there and Mack (McGuire) got upset tonight," Andrassy said. "So we could have won by more. But at the same time we won some matchups in the upperweights that could have gone either way going into the night." Sophomore Tyler Buckwalter tied the dual up 9-9 with a 5-2 decision of Dean Vettese. It was Buckwalter's first win away from the M.A.C. Center. "Tyler looked pretty solid," Andrassy said. "He worked hard tonight. Now we just need him to become more explosive." Junior Caleb Marsh gave the Flashes the lead for good with a 5-3 win over Jake Davis, who's "always been able to keep matches close with Caleb," according to Andrassy. Sophomore Sam Wheeler earned some redemption against Phillip Joseph with an 11-7 victory. Joseph defeated Wheeler at last year's conference tournament. "Any time you can beat a guy that's beaten you, it's a sign that you've been doing the right things to improve yourself," Andrassy said. Sophomore Cole Baxter sealed the team victory with a 5-2 win over Nick Whitenburg at 197. The only points Baxter surrendered against the 2013 NCAA qualifier came on a reversal in the final five seconds of the match. Kent State will take a week off from competition before visiting Northern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 8. Results: 125: No. 19 Jared Germaine (EMU)dec. 23. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team took seven individual matches, including three separate upset victories, to take down No. 12 Ohio State, 21-12, on Friday evening (Jan. 31) at St. John Arena. The Wolverines claimed nearly all of the dual's key swing matches. Carrying a narrow two-point advantage at the halftime intermission, Michigan gutted out three straight overtime tiebreaker wins after the break to pull away late in the dual. Freshman Adam Coon (Fowlerville, Mich./Fowlerville HS), ranked second in the latest InterMat poll, used a reversal in the first tiebreaker to defeat Nick Tavanello, 3-2, in the heavyweight contest. The wrestlers traded escapes during regulation. Coon struggled to keep Tavanello in the circle and drew an early stall warning but not a second and fought out of a deep counter attack in the sudden-victory period. The Wolverine reversed and subsequently rode out the first tiebreaker and kept Tavanello down for most of the second to claim the win. Sophomore/freshman Conor Youtsey (Parma, Mich./Mason HS) and sophomore Rossi Bruno (Brandon, Fla./Brandon HS) followed with similar 2-1 tiebreaker decisions at the lowerweights. Youtsey knocked off No. 15-ranked Nick Peters at 125 pounds, riding out the first tiebreaker before picking up a quick escape in the second. Bruno avenged an early-season loss to fifth-ranked Johnni DiJulius at 133 pounds. Both wrestlers rode out the 30-second frames in the first tiebreaker, while Bruno secured a late escape in the second before riding out DiJulius for the win. The Buckeyes' two-time NCAA champion Logan Stieber earned a technical fall at 141 pounds to pull OSU within six points, but the result also sealed the win for Michigan, who also held the tiebreaker advantage. The tiebreaker wasn't needed, however, as fifth-year senior Eric Grajales (Brandon, Fla./Brandon HS) capped the dual with a 7-2 decision over 18th-ranked Ian Paddock in the final match at 149 pounds. It was Paddock that struck first, scoring on a quick single leg, but Grajales, ranked seventh, battled back, riding out the second period before throwing the Buckeye for four points in the waning seconds of the bout. Freshman Domenic Abounader (Gates Mills, Ohio/St. Edward HS) picked up the Wolverines' third upset victory at 184 pounds, using a big first period to knock off 10th-ranked Kenny Courts, 9-4. Abounader, ranked 20th, scrambled out of a deep single shot early in the opening frame and caught Courts in a scissors for a takedown and three back points. Courts scored on a low single leg late in the frame, but couldn't do much else as Abounader iced the win with a late takedown in the third. Michigan opened the dual with back-to-back wins at the middleweights. Starting at 157 pounds, freshman Brian Murphy (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North HS) rallied from an early deficit to defeat Randy Languis, 5-2, scoring a two-point near fall out of a third-period cradle and riding out the period to accumulate 1:49 in time advantage. Fifth-year senior Dan Yates (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia HS) scored three first-period takedowns -- all on head in the holes -- and similarly rode for 1:49 to beat Joe Grandominico, 8-4, at 165 pounds. The Wolverines (9-2, 5-0 Big Ten) will close out their 2013-14 home schedule on Sunday (Feb. 2), hosting No. 1 Penn State, the three-time defending NCAA champion, at 3:30 p.m. at Cliff Keen Arena. Tickets are sold out for the dual, which will be aired live on the Big Ten Network. Results: 157 -- #14 Brian Murphy (U-M) dec. Randy Languis, 5-2 U-M, 3-0 165 -- #7 Dan Yates (U-M) dec. 24. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The No. 13 Virginia wrestling team earned a 16-15 victory over Maryland Friday evening in front of a packed house at Memorial Gymnasium. A major decision by second-ranked Nick Sulzer (R-Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) at 165 pounds proved to be the difference as both teams won five bouts. “I have the utmost respect for Maryland,” Virginia head coach Steve Garland said. “I knew going in that it was going to be a battle, and it really was. That was one of the crazier dual meets we’ve had all year. After going through the match with the kids and my staff, we found there were a lot of positives. Nick Herrmann and Blaise Butler grinded out wins, with Blaise getting a really big win in the tiebreaker. Nick Sulzer got us bonus points, which essentially won us the dual.” Nick Herrmann (So., Amarillo, Texas), Gus Sako (R-Jr., Cleveland, Ohio), Blaise Butler (R-So., Belvidere, Ill.) and Stephen Doty (R-Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) each won by decision at 125, 149, 157 and 174, respectively, for the Cavaliers. Virginia jumped to an early 3-0 lead when Herrmann picked up a 5-1 win over Billy Rappo at 125 pounds. Herrmann took Rappo down 55 seconds into the match and never trailed. The Terrapins (5-8, 1-3) won the next two bouts to grab a 6-3 dual lead. At 133, Maryland’s Tyler Goodwin scored on a five-point move early in the first period and forced Joseph Martinez (R-So., Platteville, Colo.) to play comeback from there in rolling to a 12-6 decision. Shyheim Brown then scored a 5-2 upset over 15th-ranked Joe Spisak (R-Jr., Boiling Springs, Pa.) at 141; four of Brown’s five points, including a two-pointer late in the third period, came on penalty points from stall warnings. Virginia captured the next four weight classes to move out to a 16-6 advantage. Ranked as high as ninth nationally, Sako returned to the mat with an 8-3 win over Frank Goodwin at 149. Sako racked up six first-period points on a pair of takedowns and a reversal as he competed for the first time in nearly a month because of an injury. He now is 15-1 on the year. Ranked 15th nationally, Butler brought the full house to its feet with a 7-6 win in a tiebreaker against Danny Orem at 157. Butler took a 5-4 lead and a decisive riding time advantage into the third period. An escape point knotted the score, and Butler was called for a stall warning, his second, to give Orem a penalty point in the waning seconds. Butler’s riding time point sent the match into overtime. After one scoreless sudden-victory period, Butler escaped quickly in the first tiebreaker period. He then maintained control for the second tiebreaker to claim the win. Sulzer once again dominated at 165, taking Ben Dorsay down seven times in an 18-5 major decision. Sulzer is now 26-1 on the season, with 13 major decisions among his 19 bonus-point victories. UVa’s final win came at 174, where Doty rolled to a 9-2 win over Ty Snook to improve to 21-7 on the season. With top-10 wrestlers manning each of the final three weights, the Terrapins claimed the final trio of bouts, although each went down to the wire. UVa’s Jon Fausey (R-Sr., Dalmatia, Pa.) fell 3-2 to top-ranked Jimmy Sheptock at 184. Sheptock scored on a takedown midway through the third period to break a 1-1 tie. On the takedown, Fausey was forced to take injury time. Sheptock took the down position coming out of the stoppage, but Fausey rode him the rest of the way to claim the riding time point. Maryland nearly got the bonus points it needed at 197, as eighth-ranked Christian Boley posted a 6-1 win over Zach Nye (R-So., Enola, Pa.). With the match tied 1-1 with 45 seconds left in the third period, Boley took Nye down and put him on his back for three back points. Boley was mere inches from getting the fall, but Nye fought him off for several seconds before wiggling loose and getting off his back as Boley settled for the back points. The match came down to heavyweight, where Ethan Hayes (R-So., New Lebanon, Ohio) dropped a 4-3 decision to sixth-ranked Spencer Myers. The Maryland All-American took a 3-1 lead into the third period, but Hayes took him down midway through the period to tie the bout. After Hayes pushed the riding time back under a minute, Myers escaped for the decisive point. Virginia is home again at 2 p.m. Sunday when it entertains Bucknell at Mem Gym. There is no admission charge, and parking is free of charge in the Culbreth Road Garage. Live results will be available at VirginiaSports.com. Results: 125: Nick Herrmann (UVa) dec. 25. EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team remained unbeaten on the year, pinning its way to a 42-3 win at Michigan State Friday night. Head coach Cael Sanderson's crew recorded four falls in the Big Ten road win. The dual began at 157, where junior All-American Dylan Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.), ranked No. 4 at 157, stayed unbeaten with a solid 8-3 win over Roger Wildmo. All-American David Taylor (St. Paris, Ohio), ranked No. 1 at 165, remained unbeaten as well with a first period pin of Bobby Nash. Taylor got the fall at the 1:53 mark, his 11th of the season and the 48th of his career. All-American Matt Brown (West Valley City, Utah), ranked No. 3 at 174, then dominated Spartan Nick Kaczanowski, rolling to an 18-3 technical fall at the 7:00 mark, including 4:48 in riding time. All-American Ed Ruth (Harrisburg, Pa.), ranked No. 2 at 184, matched Taylor with a first period pin of his own, getting a quick pin over John Rizqallah at the 0:38 mark. Sophomore Morgan McIntosh (Santa Ana, Calif.), ranked No. 3 at 197, continued Penn State's pin-parade, locking up a second period cradle to pin Nick McDiarmid at the 4:23 mark. The win sent Penn State into intermission with a 26-0 lead. Junior Nick Ruggear (Oxford, Pa.) got the nod at 285 and led into the third period over No. 7 Mike McClure. But McClure rallied late for the 5-1 decision, putting the Spartans on the board. At 125, Nittany Lion Jordan Conaway stepped in for second-ranked Nico Megaludis (Murrysville, Pa.). Megaludis did not make the weekend trip after being sick all week. Conaway, a national qualifier last year at 133, dominated MSU's Brenan Lyon, posting a 15-4 major decision. Red-shirt freshman Jimmy Gulibon (Latrobe, Pa.), ranked No. 16 at 133, followed with strong performance of his own in a 10-3 decision with over 2:00 in riding time. Undefeated true freshman Zain Retherford (Benton, Pa.), ranked No. 2 at 141, stayed unbeaten, pinning Brian Gibbs at the 4:42 mark. Junior Andrew Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.) took to the mat at 149 and closed out a dominant Penn State performance with a 9-5 victory over Spartan Nick Trimble. Penn State posted a lop-sided 23-2 edge in takedown and notched four pins, the most in a dual this year for the Nittany Lions. Taylor improved to 22-0 with the win, including 11 pins, six tech falls and five majors. His 48 pins are just five shy of Penn State's all-time record of 53. He is 122-3 all-time and is now eighth on Penn State's all-time wins list. Taylor also improved to 30-0 all-time in Big Ten duals and 51-0 all-time against Big Ten competition. Ruth is 21-1 with eight pins, seven tech falls and six majors. His 43 career pins is third all-time at Penn State. Ruth is 123-3 all-time at Penn State and is tied for sixth on the Lions' all-time wins list. He, like Taylor, is unbeaten against Big Ten foes, sporting a 30-0 Big Ten dual meet mark and a 52-0 mark all-time against Big Ten competition. Retherford remained unbeaten and moved to 22-0 with four pins, two tech falls and seven majors. Dylan Alton improved to 14-0 on the year with three pins and a major. Brown moved to 22-1 with six pins, three techs and seven majors and McIntosh improved to 21-2 with four pins and nine majors. Andrew Alton moved to 8-0 as well. Alton scored quickly, taking Wildmo down at the 2:30 mark and maintaining control for :26 seconds. The Nittany Lion junior then battled Wildmo evenly for the rest of the period and carried the 2-1 lead into the middle stanza. Wildmo chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 2-2 tie. Alton scored again, working around shoulder control for a takedown and a 4-2 lead with 1:25 on the clock. Alton maintained control long enough to work his riding time up to 1:02 before Wildmo escaped to a 4-3 score. Steadily working on his offense, Alton used a solid double leg to take Wildmo down on the edge of the mat with under :10 left and, after a short ride out, led 6-3 with 1:17 in time after two. Alton chose down to start the third period and escaped quickly to a 7-3 lead. Alton worked in on a high single and worked for a final takedown but Wildmo was able to kill the clock on the scramble. Alton posted the 8-3 win with 1:11 in riding time. 165: Top-ranked David Taylor (St. Paris, Ohio), unbeaten at 165, met MSU senior Bobby Nash at 165. Taylor scored quickly with a takedown just :06 into the bout. He let Nash loose and began working his offense again. Another quick takedown with shoulder control had Taylor taking Nash to his back for a five-point move and a 7-1 lead. Taylor cut Nash loose again and then quickly locked up a cradle on his next move, turning Nash to his back and getting the fall at the 1:53 mark. The pin was Taylor's 11th this season and the 48th of his career. 174: Junior Matt Brown (West Valley City, Utah), ranked No. 3 at 174, battled Spartan Nick Kaczanowski. Brown scored first, using a single leg to take a 2-1 lead and building up :27 in riding time before the Spartan escaped. The Lion junior quickly added a second takedown and led 4-1 with 1:30 left. Brown then built up over 2:00 in riding time with a bullish ride out to lead 4-1 with 2:09 in time after one. Brown chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 5-1 lead. Brown added two quick takedowns and after the second wrapped up a cradle for three near fall points and a 12-2 lead after two. Kaczanowski chose down to start the final period and Brown already had the riding time point clinched. Brown steadily worked his way into another cradle, locking up the Spartan for three more back points and a 15-2 lead with :47 left on the clock. The Spartan escaped only to be taken down once more and the final takedown, plus the riding time point, gave Brown the 18-3 tech fall at the 7:00 mark with 4:48 riding time. 184: Second-ranked Ed Ruth (Harrisburg, Pa.) met Spartan junior John Rizqallah at 184. Ruth, like his teammates before him, scored quickly, taking Rizqallah down and immediately working in on a cradle. He locked Rizqallah up, turned him to his back and got the shoulders flat for a quick pin at the 0:38 mark. The pin was Ruth's eighth this year and the 43rd of his career. 197: Sophomore Morgan McIntosh (Santa Ana, Calif.), ranked No. 7 at 197, took on MSU's Nick McDiarmid. The duo battled evenly for the bulk of the first period with each McIntosh looking to set the tempo and McDiarmid holding steady on defense. With the first three minutes passing scoreless, McIntosh chose down to start the second period and quickly reversed McDiarmid to take a 2-0 lead just over :10 into the stanza. The Lion sophomore maintained control for over a minute before locking up a cradle. McIntosh adjusted once and got McDiarmid's shoulders flat for the fall at the 4:23 mark. 285: Junior Nick Ruggear (Oxford, Pa.) took to the mat at 285 to face No. 7 Mike McClure. Ruggear was making his season dual meet debut. Ruggear battled McClure evenly for the first minute-plus, staying solid on his feet and keeping the action in the center of the mat. Neither man found an offensive opening during the entirety of the opening period and action moved to the second tied 0-0. Ruggear chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 1-0 lead. McClure shot low on a single but Ruggear was able to block off the move, step back and maintain his 1-0 lead at the :50 mark. Ruggear maintained his 1-0 lead into the third period. McClure chose down to start the third and, like Ruggear, quickly escaped, tying the match at 1-1. Ruggear was called for stalling and then countered a McClure shot, creating a scramble that ended with a McClure takedown and a 3-1 Spartan lead with 1:07 on the clock. A second Ruggear stall gave McClure a 4-1 lead and, with the ride-out and 1:10 riding time, McClure was able to post the 5-1 win. 125: Sophomore Jordan Conaway (Abbottstown, Pa.) stepped in at 125 for second-ranked Nico Megaludis (Murrysville, Pa.), who did not make the weekend trip due to sickness. Conaway took on Spartan senior Brenan Lyon at 125. Conaway wasted no time working in on a takedown, but Lyon was able to force a stalemate and keep the bout scoreless early. Conaway was relentless, however, working his way to a takedown and a 2-0 lead at the 1:40 mark. Conaway cut Lyon loose at the 1:00 mark and quickly took the Spartan down for a 4-1 lead. He then rode Lyon out and led 4-1 with 1:23 in time after one. Conaway chose down to start the second and quickly reversed Lyon for a 6-1 lead. The Lion sophomore put together another dominating ride, controlling the action and forcing Lyon into a stall warning before cutting him loose to a 6-2 score. Conaway fought off a late Lyon shot and rode that lead into the third period. Lyon chose down to start the third period and Conaway clinched the riding time point before turning Lyon for two near fall points. Leading 8-2, Conaway cut Lyon loose, looking for bonus points. Conaway blew through a high double, lifting Lyon off the mat and working him down for a takedown and a 10-4 lead with :24 left. Needing one more takedown to get a major, Conaway used a quick duck-under for the final takedown, turned him for two near fall points and with 3:09 in time, posted the 15-4 major. 133: Red-shirt freshman Jimmy Gulibon (Latrobe, Pa.), ranked No. 16 at 133, met MSU freshman Garth Yenter. Gulibon scored quickly notching a takedown in just :07 to lead 2-0 early. The Lion freshman put together a strong ride, building up 1:37 in time before cutting Yenter loose to a 2-1 score. Gulibon countered a slight Yenter shot, worked his way into control of a single leg and finished off the move with just :02 left for a 4-1 lead after the opening period. Gulibon chose down to start the second period and began looking for a chance to reverse the Spartan. Gulibon was steady on his mission and got the reversal with :45 left in the period to lead 6-1. He then controlled the action from the top position, keeping Yenter flat for the final seconds to lead 6-1 with 1:20 in time after two. Yenter chose down to start the third period but Gulibon once again controlled the action. With the riding time point clinched, Gulibon cut Yenter loose and began looking for a chance to score. Gulibon connected on a quick single, picked up the takedown and cut him loose with :09 left. Yenter was able to keep from giving up another takedown and Gulibon posted the strong 10-3 win with 2:15 in riding time. 141: True freshman Zain Retherford (Benton, Pa.), unbeaten and ranked No. 2 nationally at 141, battled Michigan State's Brian Gibbs. The duo battled evenly for the bulk of the first period until Retherford broke through for a takedown and a 2-0 lead with :27 on the clock. Retherford rode the Spartan out and led 2-0 after a short ride out. The Lion freshman chose down to start the second stanza and quickly reversed Gibbs to up his lead to 4-0. He turned Gibbs for two back points and reset himself with :32 on the clock. 149: Junior Andrew Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.) got the call at 149 and met Spartan Nick Trimble, who was second on the MSU roster with 18 wins coming into the match. The Lion junior gained control of Trimble's left ankle and worked his way for a takedown and a 2-0 lead just over a minute into the period. He then lifted Trimble off the mat and turned him to his back for two near fall points and a 4-0 lead. Trimble escaped with :35 on the clock to cut the lead to 4-1 after the opening three minutes. Alton chose down to start the second period but could not break free of a strong Trimble ride right away. The Lion junior broke out at the 1:00 mark and led 5-1. Alton used a fast low single to trip Trimble to the mat for another takedown and a 7-1 lead with :30 on the clock. Alton rode Trimble out to lead 7-1 with :42 in time after two. Trimble chose down to start the third, escaped, and was quickly taken down again by Alton. Alton cut Trimble loose and shot low, but Trimble countered for his own takedown to cut Alton's lead to 9-5. Trimble worked feverishly over the next minute to try and get back points but Alton was strong on defense and posted a 9-5 win to give Penn State the 42-3 dual meet victory.
