  1. ADA, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University wrestling team claimed their seventh Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championship with a 28-10 defeat of the Ohio Northern Polar Bears. The Berg grapplers only dropped three matches to Ohio Northern to remain undefeated in the OAC in 2013-14. Third year head coach Ned Shuck's career OAC record moves to 11-4 after tonight's triumph over the Polar Bears. "We are going to enjoy tonight and we will appreciate the effort and hard work it takes to be OAC champs," said Shuck. "Tomorrow we will forget about it and prepare for the Mideast Regionals. It is an important achievement (to win the OAC), we did it in solid fashion and we were confident in our wins. But now we get ready for York, Pa. and the competition we will face at Regionals." The Student Princes were awarded a forfeit at 125-pounds to take an immediate 6-0 lead. After sophomore Tyler Price accepted the forfeit at 125, sophomore Colin McDermitt extended the Berg's lead. McDermitt scored a decisive 12-3 major decision at 133-pounds moving the Berg's lead to 10-0. Senior Ian Gillespie, in his final OAC match earned a dominant 13-0 major decision at 141-pounds to push the Student Princes ahead, 14-0. Sophomore Damon Cheek claimed the third major decision of the evening, 10-2. After the 149-pound weight class, the Student Princes controlled the match 18-0. Fellow sophomore Aaron Banko suffered the first Heidelberg loss of the night at 157-pounds. Banko was handed a slim 4-3 decision to put the Polar Bears on the board. Senior Jeremy Stepp concluded a stellar year in the OAC with a six-point victory, 11-5. Stepp's decision pushed the score to 21-3 in Heidelberg's favor before junior Brennan Kelly dropped the Berg's second match of the night. Kelly went down to the Polar Bear's Tyler Gargano, who is currently ranked by d3wrestle.com. The Student Princes sealed the match and their seventh OAC regular season championship at 184-pounds with a major decision from junior Richard Dowdley. Dowdley clinched the match with an impressive 11-3 triumph. Senior Jason Russell concluded a one-loss year in the OAC at 197-pounds with a close victory. Russell scored a 1-0 decision with riding time over Michael Pawlitz to push the Heidelberg advantage to 28-6. Freshman 285-pounder Alex Farrow fought valiantly against nationally ranked Cody Lovejoy but surrendered the third 'Berg loss of the night. The young heavyweight fell to Lovejoy, 10-3 after scoring a crucial takedown in the final minute of the match and not allowing the Polar Bear score the major decision. "I just want to say thanks for all of the support this season," said Shuck. "It takes a family to win a championship It's not just the guys that wrestled in the duals, it is the student body, the administration, the other sports teams and their athletes, the friends and family of the program. It's the 30+ guys on the team that work hard and prepare for their opportunity everyday. Not just the ten, it is a family of teammates and it was cool to win this OAC title for all of them." The 18-point victory over Ohio Northern moves the Student Princes to an undefeated 5-0 in conference action this season and earns them their second consecutive OAC regular season title. "Guys have been working really hard and this is just a small step toward the Regional and NCAA Championships," said assistant Patrick Wright. The Heidelberg wrestling team will return to the mat on Sunday, March 2 for the Mideast Regional Championships. The Mideast Regional will be host by York College in York, Pa. 2. PEMBROKE – The 17th-ranked UNC Pembroke wrestling team rallied back from a late pin with wins in the final two matches to record its biggest win in school history as the Braves toppled No. 3 Newberry, 18-15, on Tuesday evening in the English E. Jones Center. The victory helped UNCP (12-4) snap an eight-match losing streak in the series, giving the Braves their first victory over the Wolves since the 2004-05 campaign. The setback was just the second of the season for Newberry (17-2) whose only other loss came at the hands of top-ranked Notre Dame in the finals of the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals on January 12. The triumph will allow the Black & Gold to take a school record 11-match win streak in dual meets into the 2014-15 campaign. The win also marked the final home match in the Black & Gold for seniors Dontae Brown and Justin Pencook. "It feels wonderful. I couldn't be more proud of the guys on our team and our coaching staff," said UNCP head coach Othello "O.T." Johnson. "I am very proud that the guys were able to pull together and stay together this year to put us in a position for this historic win." Newberry's Jeff Vesta, the nation's second-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds, gave Newberry the quick lead with a 5-0 decision over Brown, but the Braves answered back minutes later when Cole Murray finished off a 2-0 win over Nick Lankford. The individual victory would have tied the score back up, but the Braves were deducted a team point and Newberry held on to a 3-2 advantage. An 11-7 victory by third-ranked B.J. Young over fourth-ranked Daniel Ownbey at 141 pounds would swing the momentum back to the Wolves, but the Braves followed with decision wins by Eric Milks (149 pounds) and Pencook (157) to take an 8-6 advantage into the intermission. The Wolves retook the lead, 9-8, on second-ranked Blake Ridenour's 5-0 blanking of Reggie Allen in the 165-pound match, but the hosts got a big 14-4 major decision from Blaze Shade at 184 pounds to take its largest lead of the match, 12-9. Newberry, however, would deliver a big blow at 184 pounds when Jared Holliday registered a second-period pin of Brach Walker to give the Wolves a 15-12 advantage. The Braves would lay their heart and soul on the line in the final two matches though, tying the match on Stuart Nadeau's late 3-point near fall at 197 pounds, and then securing the win on eighth-ranked Chris Giddens' 4-2 upset of second-ranked Matt Wade in the heavyweight bout. The win is ESU's first over a nationally-ranked team since knocking off No. 18 Kutztown, 29-11, on February 16, 2010. The Warriors were without redshirt senior Braden Turner (26-5), ranked No. 3 in DII at 165 pounds, but produced two victories over regionally-ranked opponents at 184 and 197 to spring the upset. Both teams gave up one forfeit, with ESU gaining six points at 133 and Kutztown getting them back at 165. Kutztown led 16-15 at that point before the Warriors won three straight bouts to take control. Marino opened the night with a fall in 1:55 at 125, decking Nick Lamoreaux for a 6-0 lead. Redshirt sophomore Eric Howey, who hadn't wrestled in exactly a month due to injury, pulled out a key 8-3 decision over Jackson Stabile to make it 15-4 after the 149-pound bout. Kutztown got a first-period pin from Matt Martoccio at 157 and Bo Candelaria received a forfeit at 165 for KU's first and only lead of the night. ESU went back in front at 174, where redshirt senior Brendan McKeown, ranked No. 5 in DII, posted a 10-5 decision over Justin Heller. McKeown improves to 13-2 on the season and has won 10 straight since returning to the mat on January 5. His 10-0 dual mark this year is ESU's best since Jason Peters went 18-0 in 1996-97. The Warriors two biggest wins came at 184 and 197. DeLuise trailed 1-0 but had a riding time edge of 1:08 entering the third period against Giovanni Ortiz, ranked No. 5 in the region. Ortiz rode DeLuise for almost a minute before a reversal and two back points gave DeLuise a 4-1 lead, and he finished it with a fall at exactly 6:00 to put the Warriors in front 24-16. Sophomore Tyson Searer, ranked No. 3 in the region, sealed it with a 4-1 decision over Brandan Clark, ranked No. 2 in the region, at 197 pounds. It was scoreless after one period, but Searer gained a reversal six seconds into the second period and led 2-0 with a 1:48 riding time advantage going to the third. The only scoring in the period was an escape from Searer, and a stalling point awarded to Clark, with Searer locking up the 4-1 decision with a riding time edge of 1:40. At 285, Kutztown's Ziad Haddad, ranked No. 1 nationally, improved to 18-0 with an 11-2 major decision over freshman Tyler Richardson. The Warriors concluded their dual schedule and will compete at the Super Region 1 Championships on March 1-2 at Pitt-Johnstown to determine the region's national qualifiers, with the top three at each weight class advancing. No. 9 Bergen Catholic among six teams crowned New Jersey group champions This past Sunday afternoon in Toms River, four public schools and two non-public schools were crowned as group champions through dual meet competition. Even though the title was really won beforehand, No. 9 Bergen Catholic confirmed their status as Non Public A group champions with a 52-9 assault of St. Augustine Prep. The key result for the Crusaders was a 33-18 North sectional finals victory over No. 24 Don Bosco Prep on Saturday afternoon. Results They won eight of the weight classes, anchored by a major decision from No. 2 Nick Suriano (113) and a technical fall from No. 1 Johnny Sebastian (182). Of further interest were the sectional semifinal matches held on Wednesday night, as both dual meets involved a 7-7 split of the bouts. Bergen Catholic upended Delbarton 36-29. Results; while Don Bosco Prep earned a second very narrow victory over No. 25 St. Peter's Prep, this time it was 29-27. Results Most notable among the other group champions was No. 20 Bound Brook, who dominated the proceedings on Sunday in Group 1. Those Crusaders won eleven matches in a 48-12 semifinal victory over Kittatiny and ten matches in a 46-16 finals victory over Paulsboro. Rounding out the public school group champions were Phillipsburg (Group 4), Clearview (Group 3), and High Point (Group 2). Despite only winning six bouts, along with trailing 24-4 midway through the dual meet and 33-10 with four bouts to go, four consecutive pins gave High Point a 34-33 victory over Hanover Park in the Group 2 final. Those pins came from Colby Brands (170), Antonio Porraspita (182), Kyle Stoll (195), and Robert McDonnell (220). The other non-public champion was DePaul Catholic in Group B. Coverage Oklahoma state duals highlighted by Broken Arrow's pair of wins over fellow Fab 50 teams Broken Arrow, now ranked No. 11 in the country, came through with a pair of storybook victories on Saturday to win the Class 6A title in the Oklahoma state dual meet tournament. The three Fab 50 teams in Class 6A opened the day with dominating victories in the quarterfinals: No. 11 Broken Arrow upended Southmoore 57-15, No. 12 Stillwater defeated Midwest City 76-3, while No. 15 Edmond North defeated Muskogee 52-12. Stillwater scored a 33-24 victory over Tulsa Union in the semifinal round, while Broken Arrow faced Edmond North. In a match starting at 170 pounds, Edmond North ran off six straight victories to jump ahead 29-0, as the five Huskies nationally ranked wrestlers all were involved in this stretch. Joel Dixon (170) and Paxton Rosen (106) scored major decisions; while Lance Dixon (182), Derek White (195), and Andrew Dixon (220) scored pins. The other match in this stretch was a 3-2 decision for Nolan Malloy over Trenton Lieurance at 285. The turnaround began with a pin from Tajuan Daniels at 113 points, as the Tigers would add six more match victories to take a 33-29 lead before the last bout of the dual meet. Additional victories came from pins by two-time state champion Davion Jeffries (126) and two-time state placer Paden Bailey (152), a technical fall from three-time state placer Zack Edwards (132), a 20-6 major decision from No. 17 Markus Simmons (120), along with decisions from state champions Shea Conley (138) and Tanner Bailey (145). Edmond North countered with a 10-3 victory from Zach Walton at 160 pounds to end the dual meet, but it was too little, too late. In the championship final, which started at 182 pounds, there were three ties and three lead changes after the first match of the night. Tanner Hawkins started things off for Stillwater on a highly positive note with a pin in 46 seconds. However, Broken Arrow would respond with three consecutive wins by decision, capped off by a 6-1 overtime victory for Trenton Lieurance at 285 pounds over James Brower. A 10-3 victory for No. 11 Andrew Nieman would enable Stillwater to equalize the meet at 9-9 after 106 pounds, while a 4-3 decision for Tyler Dieringer in the following bout gave the Pioneers their last lead of the night at 12-9. Three consecutive victories for Broken Arrow would give the Tigers a 20-12 lead that stood for the rest of the night, with two of those results being reversals from the in-season dual meet last month. This go around, No. 17 Markus Simmons upended Jacob Fontanez 2-0 at 120 pounds, while Zack Edwards upset now No. 15 Kaid Brock 4-3 at 132. Consecutive Stillwater victories from Tristan Moran (138) and No. 5 Joe Smith (145) would cut the deficit to 20-18 with three bouts remaining. Those victories from Moran and Smith came in anticipated bouts, Moran upending Shea Conley 7-3, and Smith beating Tanner Bailey 2-1. A second period pin from Tanner Bailey (152) and 7-1 decision for Braxton Owens (160) in the next two bouts would clinch the state title for Broken Arrow with one match to go. No. 6 Chandler Rogers (170) would earn a forfeit for Stillwater in the last bout to reflect the final score. No. 50 Collinsville would win the Class 5A title with a tight 30-27 victory over Lawton McArthur in the championship bout. The two opening round matches were blowouts for both squads. The state champion Cardinals defeated Piedmont 55-6 in the quarterfinals, and followed it up with a 62-9 semifinal victory; while runners-up Lawton McArthur scored a 52-19 victory over Western Heights in the quarterfinal and a 42-14 win over Altus in the semifinal. No. 32 Tuttle showed even more dominance in their run through the Class 4A tournament, as no opponent was even within 40 points; while Perry torched their way through the Class 3A event. Results Coming up this week Individual bracket tournaments will be held in Arizona (Division 1 & 2), Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, National Preps, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington. The National Prep tournament includes No. 1 Blair Academy and No. 6 Wyoming Seminary. Keep in mind that some teams, not Blair Academy though, will be using post-graduate wrestlers during this event. These are wrestlers that can compete in National Prep competition, but not during NFHS matchups. Preview content for the Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa individual state tournaments will appear in a separate article. State dual meet championships will be held this week in Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, and South Carolina. The South Carolina Class 1A/2A title was held yesterday, while 3A and 4A will be held today; dual meet competition in Iowa and Maryland is today; while Michigan's is Friday and Saturday. Iowa Class 3A features a trio of nationally ranked teams. No. 23 Bettendorf is the top seed, and draws Pleasant Valley in the opening round, with a likely quarterfinal against Cedar Rapids Prairie or Linn-Mar. The other semifinal is likely to feature No. 22 Southeast Polk against No. 36 Waverly-Shell Rock. Assuming all teams prioritize the event, it's a wide open tournament. Regardless of what the seeds say, the Michigan Division 1 dual meet title will come down to No. 17 Detroit Catholic Central and No. 30 Davison. DCC is the third seed, while Davison is the first seed. Similarly the Division 2 tournament will come down to two teams, and they actually are the top two seeds: No. 14 Lowell as the favorite over No. 28 St. Johns. Split decision in North Dakota This past Thursday, West Fargo upended Bismarck 31-25 for the North Dakota Class A state dual meet title. Both teams had steamrolled their way through quarterfinal and semifinal matches, before the Packers won nine of fourteen weight classes in the finals match. However, key to their victory was a pair of one-point/overtime bouts: Anjelo Shepherd upended Adam Blees 2-1 at 145, and Jared Franek defeated Dillon Spaulding 4-2 in overtime at 106. However, both of those results were flipped during the individual bracket event, as Bismarck won the state title very narrowly over West Fargo, 254 to 252. Franek beat Spaulding 4-3 in the state title bout at 106 pounds; while Blees beat Shepherd 6-4 in ultimate tiebreaker during the semis, with Blees going on to win state and Shepherd dropping back to fourth at 145. Joining those two as state champions for Bismarck were Kael Knowlen (120), Ricky Galindo (152), and No. 1 Ryan Blees (160). What ultimately cost West Fargo the state title in the individual meet was a disastrous 1-7 performance in first place matches on Saturday night. Only Jordan Shearer (132) was able to win a state title, while Jared Franek (106), Jesse Shearer (152), Weston Dobler (160), Kollin Kragnes (170), Kyle Kragnes (182), Tanner Kuznia (195), and Brandon Metz (285) all fell to defeat. South Border swept the titles in Class B. They beat Carrington 34-33 in the dual meet final on Thursday night, and out-pointed Carrington 182 to 172.5 at the weekend. Dual Meet (A/B) Results | Individual A Results | Individual B Results Dominance from No. 16 Brandon leads happenings in Florida state tournament While not really a surprise at all, No. 16 Brandon dominated the Class 2A state tournament, as the Eagles were led by seven state champions on the way to 270.5 points. Additional state champions were Devan Berrian (138) and Dakota Greene (160), and they were joined by a pair of runners-up in Ty Lucas (120) and Troy Joyce (145). Second place in that tournament went to Tampa Jesuit with 119.5 points, as they were led by No. 20 Austin Underwood, an undefeated state champion at 285 pounds. Winning the Class 3A (big-school) title was South Dade with 174.5 points. They were led by three state champions: Ozzy Lugo (106), Patricio Lugo (138), and Isaiah Crosby (145). Finishing as runners-up were Osceola with 127.5 points, and the Kowboys were led by state titlists No. 6 Fox Baldwin (160) and Ben Cruz (220). 7. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Virginia Tech wrestling team wrapped up competition at the NWCA National Duals Monday with a pair of victories inside St. John Arena to finish the tournament with a 3-1 mark. The Hokies, ranked 16th in the country, opened up with a 22-17 win over No. 19 Chattanooga and then rallied by winning the final three matches to beat Central Michigan 22-15. "I was proud of our effort today," head coach Kevin Dresser said. "We really made some gains in certain weight classes. I was particularly impressed with 125, 133 and 149 this weekend! They are buying in 100 percent and it is showing." In the first bout of the day, Joey Dance, ranked 20th in the country at 125 pounds, got Tech off to a fast start with a 16-3 major decision over Byron Smith. Dance, a true freshman, used four takedowns and a pair of three-point nearfalls to get the extra bonus point for the Hokies. Dennis Gustafson finally got the big upset he’s been so close on earning this year when he beat No. 11 Nick Soto at 133 pounds. He didn’t just beat Soto, he took him down twice, turned him three times and reversed him to pick up a 14-5 major decision. Erik Spjut made a first-period takedown stand up as he beat Mike Pongracz 2-0 at 141 pounds. Seventeenth-ranked Zach Neibert rolled past Austin Sams at 149 pounds, using three takedowns, a nearfall and over four minutes of riding time to record a 10-0 major decision. Sal Mastriani couldn’t get anything going at 157 pounds as Alex Hudson blanked him, putting up an 11-0 major decision. Corey Mock, ranked 12th in the country, picked up his second major decision of the year over Tech’s Chris Moon, once again in an 8-0 blanking thanks to two takedowns, a nearfall and over five minutes of riding time. Levi Clemons picked up a 10-4 decision over Tech’s John Dickson at 174 pounds to make it a 15-11 ball game with three bouts left, but Nick Vetterlein picked up a 10-2 major decision over John Lampe at 184 pounds and Chris Penny iced it with an 8-2 win over Scottie Boykin at 197 pounds. At heavyweight, former Tech wrestler Dawson Peck stuck 16th-ranked Ty Walz at the 2:10 mark in the first period to finish the dual match on a high note for the Mocs, but Tech still won the dual match, 22-17. In the second bout of the day, Dance continued his hot streak, picking up two takedowns en route to a 6-1 victory over No. 12 Corey Keener at 125 pounds. Dennis Gustafson couldn’t get a takedown in the final minute as he fell to No. 10 Joe Roth 3-2 at 133 pounds. Erik Spjut hung with ninth-ranked Zach Horan, but fell 3-0 at 141 pounds as the Chippewas took their first lead. Neibert took care of business at 149 pounds, rolling part Joey Kielbasa 8-2 to tie the bout up after four matches. CMU got big bonus points when Lucas Smith pinned Mastriani in the second period to give the Chips a 12-6 lead at the halfway point. Moon chipped away at the lead with a 6-4 win over Zack Cline, but Dickson dropped a 10-5 decision to No. 8 Mike Ottinger to take the lead back to six points. Dickson probably saved the team a point with a reversal late that saved him from a major decision. Vetterlein came through in a huge way at 184 pounds to tie it back up. Trailing 3-1 in the third period, he took down Craig Kelliher twice to take the lead and put him to his back to pick up the pin at the 6:07 mark for six huge team points. Chris Penny then used a takedown to pick up a 3-1 decision over Jackson Lewis at 197 points and give the Hokies the lead back. Walz iced the win six takedowns en route to a 14-6 major decision over Adam Robinson to seal the dual. Even though the Hokies weren't eliminated, the tournament did not wrestle out to fifth place. In the third-place bout vs. the Sooners Monday, the Scarlet and Gray reeled off six wins en route to its Top 3 finish in front of their home crowd in Columbus. Ohio State quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead thanks to a 4:17 pin by redshirt-freshman Nick Roberts over Sean Williams in the 125-pound match up. Not long after, redshirt-sophomore and ninth-ranked Johnni DiJulius increased Ohio State’s lead to 9-0 following his 6-3 decision over No. 7 Cody Brewer in the 133-pound bout. In the Top 10 match-up, DiJulius bettered his 2-1 lead entering the third period by scoring a reversal and taking advantage of a third-called caution on Brewer. With a riding time advantage of 2:21 and limiting Brewer to just an escape and reversal, DiJulius secured the 6-3 win. Up next at 149 pounds, redshirt-junior and No. 3 Logan Stieber recorded his 21st bonus-point victory of the season after posting an 18-3 technical fall over Nick Lester. With the Buckeyes up 14-0, the Sooners earned their first win of the match when No. 2 Kendric Maple beat No. 20 and senior Ian Paddock, 13-3, at 149 pounds. The rest of the way, Ohio State and Oklahoma traded victories, including a 6-1 win by redshirt-junior Randy Languis over Dryden Dennis. Restricting Dennis to just an escape, Languis opened the bout with a takedown in the first period and followed with a final takedown, escape and riding time of 1:59. No. 13 and sophomore Mark Martin used a takedown and a 1:23 of riding time to beat Derek Geiges, 3-0, in the 174-pound match-up, while senior 197-pounder and No. 8 Nick Heflin won a 6-3 decision vs. No. 5 Travis Rutt. With the match tied at 3-3, Heflin’s escape and takedown in the third period was enough for him to hold on to the win. In other matches, Buckeye senior Joe Grandominico lost a 6-1 decision to Clark Glass. Moving up a weight class to 184 pounds, No. 1 (174 pounds) Andrew Howe handed redshirt-freshman Josh Fox a 22-8 loss. In the final match of the evening for Ohio State, Buckeye heavyweight Kosta Karageorge lost, 15-0, to Zach Merrill. Against the Gophers earlier in the day, the Buckeyes jumped out to a 3-0 lead after redshirt-freshman Nick Roberts defeated Samuel Brancale, 9-7, in the 125-pound bout. Two matches later at 141 pounds, a Top 5 match-up ensued between Logan Stieber, who is No. 3, and No. 5 Chris Dardanes. Stieber, a redshirt-junior, recorded an 11-0 major decision over Dardanes to lift the Scarlet and Gray to a 6-3 lead. Stieber quickly secured himself five points on a takedown and 3-point nearfall in the first period vs. Dardanes. The Monroeville, Ohio, native then opened the second period with an escape and takedown for an 8-0 lead. A final takedown and riding time of 2:19 in the third period gave the Buckeye an 11-0 win. Previously, redshirt-sophomore and eighth-ranked Johnni DiJulius dropped an 8-5 decision to No. 8 David Thorn. Trailing, 4-3, at the end of the first period, DiJulius gave up a reversal and was called for his second stall of the match before scoring an escape to make the score 7-4 in Thorn’s favor. In the third period, DiJulius was only able to score an escape before dropping the match. Ohio State would go on to drop six of the next seven matches, including a trio of decisions at 149, 157 and 165 pounds. In the 149-pound match up, senior and No. 20 Ian Paddock dropped a 6-2 decision to No. 3 Nick Dardanes. Paddock only trailed 4-2 at the end of the second period, but an escape by Dardanes and riding time of 1:03 secured the Gopher’s victory. At 157 pounds, redshirt-junior Randy Languis suffered an 8-4 setback to No. 5 Dylan Ness. Languis trailed Ness by one (5-4) at the end of the first period, but Ness was able to score an escape and takedown in the remaining periods for the win. Senior Joe Grandominico could not overcome a 5-0 deficit at the end of the second period and dropped an 8-2 decision to Daniel Zilverberg. Senior and eighth-ranked Nick Heflin scored the Buckeyes’ final team points of the match with his 8-4 decision over Scott Schiller. Heflin took a 5-3 lead into the second period and increased his advantage to 8-3 on an escape and takedown in the middle stanza. 10. COLUMBIA, Mo. -- On an afternoon where the seniors were honored, it was a true freshman that turned the tide Sunday as the No. 10 Missouri Tigers (9-2, 6-1) defeated Old Dominion (8-9, 4-3), 21-9. Head Coach Brian Smith recorded his 200th career win as the Tigers remain a perfect 8-0-1 all-time against the Monarchs. At 157 pounds, true freshman Joey Lavallee turned in one of his premiere performances of the season, breaking a 6-6 tie with a 7-2 decision over 19th-ranked Tristan Warner. After nearly two scoreless minutes, Lavallee got on the board first with a takedown at 1:04. Mizzou's Lavallee would take a 2-1 advantage into the third and would waste no time increasing it, getting a takedown at 1:48 followed by two backpoints. Lavallee finished his match with 2:58 of ride time advantage in a 7-2 decision, which marked his first collegiate win over a ranked opponent. Brian Smith"We stopped a hot team," Smith said following his program's ninth win of the season. "Probably the big turnaround was at 157. Getting a win over (Tristan) Warner was a big one. And not just winning, but getting a couple takedowns and even backpoints. Our freshmen just keep growing up under our eyes, it's really nice to see." With the dual tied at 3-3, No. 20 Lavion Mayes took to the mat against No. 4 Chris Mecate. Points were hard to come by in the day's only top-20 matchup, with Mayes taking a 1-0 lead on Mecate's second stalling warning near the end of the second period. Despite the stall warnings, Mecate rode Mayes for the entire frame and would open up the third period in the down position with two minutes of ride time advantage. Mecate escaped to open the third period, tying the match at 1-1, and would eventually win by virtue of 1:52 riding time. Then the tide would begin to turn. Drake Houdashelt picked up his 30th win of the season with a 4-1 decision over No. 14 Alex Richardson, knotting the dual at six-a-piece. Houdashelt, the top 149-pounder In the country, topped Richardson despite not recording a single takedown. Mizzou's junior-captain would pick up three easy points by way of two illegal holds and two stalling warnings against Richardson, and would add a fourth point with 1:35 of ride time. A scary moment happened in the closing moments of the second as Houdashelt attempted a takedown, and Richardson appeared to land on his neck. It was ruled an illegal takedown on Houdashelt and Richardson was awarded a point. Houdashelt's 4-1 decision is his second win over ODU's Richardson this season, with the first, a 3-2 decision, coming on Jan. 2 at the Southern Scuffle. After Lavallee's crucial victory at 157, senior Zach Toal picked up one final home win on his senior day. Toal, ranked No. 12 at 165 pounds, held a 4-0 lead over counterpart Devin Geoghegan headed into the third. Geoghegan would cut into Toal's lead with an escape and a takedown, but Toal would escape and add a point for 1:23 of riding time en route to his final victory at the Hearnes Center, a 6-3 decision. The final three Tigers would all prove victorious to close out Mizzou's 21-9 victory. Captain Johnny Eblen won in dramatic fashion with a takedown in the closing seconds for a 7-5 win over Jack Dechow. Freshman J'den Cox sealed the deal for the Tigers with a 9-2 victory over Kevin Beazley to put the Tigers up 18-9. Devin Mellon and Matt Tourdot would need overtime to decide the heavyweight matchup, but Mellon's takedown 21 seconds into sudden victory capped off Mizzou's 21-9 MAC Conference win. With this victory, coach Brian Smith won his 200th matchup in his 17th year as a head coach. Smith is in his 16th year as Mizzou Wrestling's head coach, where's he's accumulated 198 wins. His two other wins came during his one-year stint at Syracuse in 1997-98. "It's nice, but it's actually 200 wins for a bunch of young men. I just sit on the bench and try not to screw it up," Smith joked after his milestone victory. "But it's nice because I think about all the people who were a part of that, including my wife who's put up with me for that long." During his tenure at Mizzou, Smith has coached 18 All-Americans to 31 top-eight finishes at the NCAA Championships, including national champions in Ben Askren (2006 & 2007), Mark Ellis (2009) and Max Askren (2010). With Smith at the helm, the Tigers have been one of the nation's most prolific programs over the past decade, posting 13-consecutive winning seasons. 12. CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Panther wrestling team improves to 12-0 for the first time in the program’s history with a 21-12 win over No. 24 Purdue on Senior Day in front of a sold-out crowd. “They should be proud of that,” said head coach Doug Schwab. “Just the history of that -- to set some history is a great thing. It’s a tribute to our guys and the guys since they took over the program -- the (seniors) who were out there. We are going to miss those guys, but they have more to do this season. It was a great way to go out.” It came down to final match with Blaize Cabell at heavyweight for UNI. His 5-3 decision win sealed the Panthers’ perfect record. Dylan Peters earned his 16th fall of the season over a two-time NCAA qualifier. He pinned Camden Eppert in 3:34 to give UNI a 6-0 lead. Peters entered the weekend fifth in the nation for most falls among Division I wrestlers. In the only match featuring two ranked wrestlers, No. 1 Colon earned an 8-6 decision over All-American Cashé Quiroga. Quiroga is ranked 12th by InterMat. At 141 pounds, Joey Lazor fought off a 10-5 deficit, but a last-second reversal helped Danny Sabatello earn the 14-10 decision and give Lazor his first dual loss of the season. “We know what we are doing. We got guys that peaked at the right time last year,” said Schwab. “There’s a lot of emotions for those seniors on the last day out. But the Lion junior forced a reset with 2:00 on the clock still tied 0-0. Klimara connected on his second shot, taking Megaludis down on the edge of the mat for a 2-1 lead after a quick Megaludis escape. The Lion then gained control of Klimara's left ankle on the outside circle and began scrambling for his own takedown. But Klimara countered the move and took a 4-1 lead after one period. Klimara chose down to start the second and quickly escaped to a 5-1 lead. Megaludis then got in on a low single with 1:10 on the clock, connected, and cut the lead to 5-3. Megaludis let Klimara loose and quickly took him down again to cut the lead to 7-5. The Lion then tied the bout with a third second-period takedown with :30 on the clock. A short ride out sent the bout to the third tied 7-7. Megaludis chose down to start the third and quickly escaped to an 8-7 lead. The Lion forced Klimara into a first stall warning then got in on a high single leg on the edge of the mat. Megaludis then worked his right arm into control of Klimara's right ankle and took a 10-7 lead with :52 left to wrestle. Megaludis was able to ride Klimara for the full minute, breaking the Cowboy down and rolling to an 11-7 decision. 133: Red-shirt freshman Jimmy Gulibon (Latrobe, Pa.), ranked No. 16 at 133, met No. 4 Jon Morrison in a rematch of this year's Southern Scuffle title bout (won by Morrison). The duo battled evenly for a minute plus before Morrison connected on a high double to take a 2-0 lead. The fourth-ranked Cowboy was able to control the action for the rest of the period, with Gulibon unable to kick free of Morrison's ankle control. Leading 2-0, Morrison chose down to start the second period and Gulibon was able to control the action himself, working the riding time down below a minute. Not content at that, Gulibon put together a strong ride, controlling Morrison for the remainder of the period with a strong 2:00 ride. Trailing 2-0 with riding time not a factor, Gulibon chose neutral to start the third. Gulibon upped the tempo, forcing Morrison to the outside circle for the first half of the final stanza. The Lion freshman could not break through the senior's defense. Morrison got hit with a first stall at :10 but the bout ended with the Cowboy on defense, grabbing a tough 2-0 win. 141: True freshman Zain Retherford (Benton, Pa.), ranked No. 2 at 141, battled No. 19 Anthony Collica. Retherford was steady early on, controlling the action on his feet and forcing the Cowboy to the outside circle. The young Lion could not break down Collica's strong defense and the bout moved into the second stanza tied 0-0. Collica chose down to start the second period, giving Retherford a chance to work his strong ride. The Lion freshman was able to withstand a quick Collica start on a second reset and maintained control for well over minute, wrapping up Collica on his lower body and forcing the Cowboy to the mat. With Collica working hard to escape by getting to his feet, Retherford was able to break him down and notch the 2:00 ride out. Retherford chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 1-0 lead in just :10. Retherford then connected on a low single and forced a scramble on the edge of the mat. The Lion could not finish the move off before action moved out of bounds and a reset entailed with :48 left to wrestle. Retherford deftly stepped back from a Collica shot and forced a scramble that killed clock. The Lion remained unbeaten with a strong 2-0 win, including 1:50 in riding time. 149: Red-shirt freshman Zack Beitz (Mifflintown, Pa.), ranked No. 17 at 149, took on No. 9 Josh Kindig. Beitz was the early aggressor, forcing Kindig back towards the outside circle for over 2:00. The duo battled for the full three minutes and action moved to the second stanza tied 0-0. Beitz chose down to start the second and quickly escaped to a 1-0 lead. Kindig countered with a low single and a takedown and the bout was tied 2-2 after Beitz escaped with 1:10 left to wrestle. The match moved to the third period tied and Kindig chose down to start the final period. The Cowboy quickly escaped and took a 3-2 lead with 1:40 on the clock. Beitz's offense forced Kindig into a first stall with 1:20 left. The Lion junior continued to pressure the Cowboy, forcing him backwards. Kindig countered a low Beitz shot and took a 5-2 lead with :46 left to wrestle. Beitz escaped to a 5-3 score with :35 left and the connected on a low single. But Kindig was able kick away and preserve the hard fought 5-3 win. 157: All-American Dylan Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.), ranked No. 6 at 157, met No. 3 Alex Dieringer. Alton blew out of the gates fast, working a high double into an eventual takedown and a 2-1 lead early after a quick Dieringer escape. Dieringer gained control of Alton's waste and took him with down and to his back for a four-point move off a takedown and two near fall points. Alton quickly escaped to a 5-3 score with 1:00 on the clock and action resumed on their feet in the center circle. Leading 5-3, Dieringer chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 6-3 lead. Alton shot low but Dieringer was able to step out of trouble each time and hold onto the 6-3 score down to the :40 mark. Dieringer shot off a reset and looked to score but Alton forced a quick stalemate and the bout moved into the third period with Dieringer up 6-3. Alton chose down to start the third period and Alton quickly escaped to a 6-4 score. Alton fought off a swift Dieringer shot and kept the bout close with 1:19 on the clock. After a break for blood time, the duo returned to the center of the mat with Alton shooting low, Dieringer looking to counter, and neither wrestler breaking through. Alton's offense forced Dieringer into a stall warning but time ran out and Dieringer posted the 6-4 win, putting Oklahoma State up 9-6 at the break. 165: All-American David Taylor (St. Paris, Ohio), ranked No. 1 at 165, took on Cowboy Tyler Caldwell, who was ranked No. 5. Taylor and Caldwell, who met in the finals of the Southern Scuffle (a Taylor win), battled evenly for nearly two minutes. Taylor then connected on a single and worked his way into control for a takedown and 2-0 lead with :50 left in the opening period. Taylor then controlled the action from the top and rode Caldwell out, nearly turning him for back points in the process. Trailing 2-0, Caldwell chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 2-1 score. Caldwell shot low and Taylor deftly countered for another takedown and 4-1 lead with 1:00 on the clock. Taylor continued to try and turn Caldwell, building up 1:21 in riding time before cutting him loose to a 4-2 lead. Leading 4-2, Taylor chose down to start the third period. Caldwell was able to maintain control long enough to kill the riding time edge. Taylor picked up another point on an illegal hold call and led 5-2 with :45 left to wrestle. Caldwell continued to control the action from the top, trying to turn Taylor. But the Lion senior fought off every effort and walked away with a 5-2 win. 174: All-American Matt Brown (West Valley City, Utah), ranked No. 4 at 174, met No. 2 Chris Perry in a rematch of last year's NCAA title bout. Brown shot low on Perry, appearing to take him down right out of the gates. Brown did not get the call and the scramble worked its way to the outside circle where Perry countered and looked for his own takedown. Brown adjusted his weight and nearly had Perry pinned in front of the Oklahoma State bench. But no fall was called and Perry was given a takedown as action moved out of bounds. Trailing 2-0, Brown eventually worked his way to an escape, cutting the lead to 2-1 with :50 on the clock. The Lion junior then upped his offensive pressure, forcing Perry into defense with a swiftly flurry of shots. Perry was able to back out of trouble for the rest of the period and led by one after one. Brown chose down to start the second period and Perry was hit with a second caution on the start. Brown escaped to a 2-2 tie with 1:36 to wrestle but Perry had 1:12 in riding time. Brown continued to set the tempo and Perry continued to play the outside circle with the score tied at the 1:00 mark. Brown took a 3-2 lead when Perry was hit for a second stall at the :30 mark and carried that lead into the final period. Perry chose down to start the third period and Brown maintained control long enough to kill the riding time edge and then cut him loose to a 3-3 tie. Brown continued to shoot and Perry continued to look for offense on counters as the clock ticked down below :30. Tied 3-3, the bout moved into a first sudden victory period. Brown pressed Perry and Perry continued to counter but neither wrestler connected and the match moved into a tie-breaker. Perry was down first and Brown was able to work his way into control of the Cowboy, keeping him down and killing the first :30. Brown then chose down and could not work his way to an escape, moving the bout into a second sudden victory. Brown fought solid Perry shot and nearly scored on his own low single but the match moved to a second tie-breaker still tied 3-3. Brown chose down to start this tie-breaker. At a reset with :13 , Brown was unable to break free and Perry had down for his shot at the second tie-breaker. Perry quickly escaped to a 4-3 lead. Brown got in on a low single and nearly grabbed the win but Perry fought off the move and escaped with the thrilling 4-3 (TB2) win. 184: All-American Ed Ruth (Harrisburg, Pa.), ranked No. 2 at 184, faced off against Cowboy Nolan Boyd. Ruth scored quickly, taking a 2-0 lead. He then wrapped up a cradle and nearly took the Cowboy to his back but Boyd was able to fight off the move and escaped to a 2-1 Ruth lead. Ruth scored quickly again, using a high single off a reset to take a 4-1 lead with 1:20 on the clock. He then began working on another cradle but Boyd once again stood firm and Ruth led 4-2 with :30 left. Ruth quickly picked up a third takedown and then used a cradle to turn Boyd for two back points and an 8-2 lead at the buzzer. Trailing by six, Boyd chose down to start the second period but Ruth was too strong. He built his riding time up over 2:00 while looking for another turning combination. The Lion senior nearly connected on another cradle but Boyd was able to keep flat and escaped to an 8-3 Ruth lead with :30 on the clock. Ruth used a quick low counter with just :08 left to lead 10-4 heading into the third. Ruth chose down to start the third period and deftly reversed the Cowboy to up his lead to 12-4. He eventually locked up the cradle and sent the Rec Hall faithful to their feet with a pin at the 5:41 mark, putting the Nittany Lions up 15-12. 197: Sophomore Morgan McIntosh (Santa Ana, Calif.), ranked No. 3 at 197, took on Oklahoma State's Kyle Crutchmer. McIntosh scored quickly, taking Crutchmer down for a 2-1 lead in the first :30. McIntosh's offense forced Crutchmer into a first stall warning at the 1:00 mark. The Lion sophomore continued to shoot while Crutchmer looked to counter. McIntosh picked up a point on another Crutchmer stall and led 3-1 after one period. McIntosh chose down to start the second and nearly notched a reversal. The escape gave the Lion a 4-1 lead and he continued to force Crutchmer back on his heels. McIntosh connected on a nice high double leg, taking a 6-1 lead with 1:25 on the clock. He then turned the Cowboy for back points, reset himself and nearly got the point. Crutchmer fought off his back but McIntosh's offense gave him an 8-1 lead. The Lion then worked Crutchmer over once more, picking up three more back points to lead 12-1 after two. Crutchmer chose down to start the third and quickly escaped to a 12-2 score. McIntosh continued to force Crutchmer backwards, looking for an opening to walk through and up his lead. McIntosh picked up another point on 285: Junior Jon Gingrich (Wingate, Pa.) met Ethan Driver at 285. Gingrich exploded out of the gates for a takedown and a 2-0 lead just :20 into the bout. The Lion junior controlled the action from the top position, building up 1:21 in riding time before Driver escaped to a 2-1 score. Driver shot low on Gingrich but the Lion junior quickly countered the shot, worked his way behind the Cowboy and took a 4-1 lead with a takedown of his own. Trailing 4-1, Driver chose down to start the second and escaped to a 4-2 score with 1:20 left. Gingrich built up a 2:27 riding time edge in the process. Gingrich added a third takedown and led 6-3 with :40 left, cutting Driver loose and looking for another chance to add to his lead. The Lion junior bulled through a low double to carry an 8-3 lead with 2:55 in time into the third. Gingrich chose down, quickly escaped and took Driver down again to lead 11-3. The Lion, with a clinched riding time point, then tacked on one more takedown and posted the strong 14-5 major with 3:06 riding time.

  22. Redshirt freshman Cole Mendenhall highlighted another big night for the University of Wyoming wrestling team Saturday as the Cowboys defeated Utah Valley, 32-6. The 141-pound Poke outworked UVU's Avery Garner at 141 pounds in an 8-4 decision. Garner was rated 33rd in the latest NCAA Coaches Panel Rankings, released Feb. 13. Mendenhall, along with seven other Cowboys, claimed victory to push UW (5-6 overall, 3-1 Western Wrestling Conference) to its fourth-straight win to stay alive in the race for the WWC dual title. The contest wrapped up the home dual slate for Wyoming. "Overall it was a dominating team score, but I really felt like we had several guys who were too conservative," UW head coach Mark Branch said. "We had a couple matches where we won but we went scoreless in the first period, so those are not great things to see right now. But Cole Mendenhall was an example of just the opposite. He didn't stand around and wait for the kid to make a mistake or take him down. He went out there and got the shot." UW had decision wins from juniors Shane Woods (197), Brandon Richardson (149), Andy McCulley (157) and redshirt freshman Benjamin Stroh at 184. The Pokes got bonus points thanks to a pin from sophomore heavyweight Tanner Harms, a forfeit win for junior Tyler Cox (125), and a technical fall from junior Dakota Friesth at 165. "Tanner looked good. We've been emphasizing blowing through our shots and he did that," Branch said. "I liked what I out of Dakota Friesth, too. He showed a little attitude at the end." UW began the night by honoring the lone senior on its roster, 141-pound Kyle Komata. He was recognized before the first match for his contributions to the program over the past four seasons. The Cowboys will wrestle their final dual contest of the regular season Friday on the road versus North Dakota State. Matches will begin at 6 p.m. MT from the Bison Sports Arena. 23. PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team won six individual matches, including each of the first five, to knock off No. 6 Pittsburgh, 18-13, in its season dual-meet finale on Saturday evening (Feb. 15) at the Panthers' Fitzgerald Field House. Freshman heavyweight Adam Coon (Fowlerville, Mich./Fowlerville HS) sealed the Wolverine win with a decision in the final match. The Wolverines closed out their dual schedule with an 11-4 record. They earned seven wins against nationally-ranked opponents, including three top-10 teams. With Michigan carrying just a narrow two-point advantage in the final bout at heavyweight, Coon, ranked second in the latest InterMat poll, overcame a first-period scare to edge 19th-ranked P.J. Tasser, 9-6, and seal the U-M win for the third win this season. The wrestlers locked up early in the opening frame and Tasser threw Coon to his back, but the Wolverine freshman scrambled to quickly reverse the position, putting Tasser on his back to even the score at four apiece. He rode for more than a minute before Tasser escaped late in the frame. Both wrestlers earned their escapes in the second and third, but Coon maintained his riding-time advantage and picked up a point for stalling before countering a late Tasser shot attempt to ice the match and the dual. The Wolverines benefited from a big early lead at the midpoint of the dual, earning five straight decision victories to build a 15-0 advantage. Sophomore/freshman Conor Youtsey (Parma, Mich./Mason HS) and sophomore Rossi Bruno (Brandon, Fla./Brandon HS) initiated the Michigan momentum with back-to-back wins in swing matches at 125 and 133 pounds. Youtsey, ranked 15th, scored the only offensive points in a 5-3 sudden-victory win over 19th-ranked Anthony Zanetta in the opening match, striking first on a second-period single leg and, after a third-period penalty point forced overtime, finishing on an outside sweep single to end the bout. Bruno, ranked 19th, cruised past 20th-ranked Shelton Mack, 6-1, at 133 pounds behind single-leg takedowns in the second and third periods, riding out the remainder of both frames to accumulate 1:52 in time advantage. Senior/junior Steve Dutton (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point HS) rolled to a similar 6-1 decision over 17th-ranked Edgar Bright at 141 pounds -- his second straight win over a ranked opponent. Dutton, himself ranked eighth, scored on a single leg in the first period and three back points on a leg turk in the third. Fifth-year senior Eric Grajales (Brandon, Fla./Brandon HS), ranked eighth, took advantage of a big second period to secure an 8-5 decision over Mikey Racciato at 149 pounds, scoring on a single-leg takedown and two-point tilt. Racciato narrowed the score with a takedown on his own on the edge early in the third before Grajales iced it with a late high crotch. Freshman Brian Murphy (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North HS), ranked 14th, earned a decisive 6-0 shutout win over Cole Sheptock at 157 pounds with two takedowns and 2:44 in riding-time advantage. The Wolverine freshman countered a deep single-leg shot in the first period, defending it for a solid 30 seconds before scrambling for a takedown of his own and riding out the period. He added a single leg early in the third and again rode out the remainder of the frame. Pittsburgh earned an upset win at 165 pounds, where Geno Morelli used a late takedown to defeat sixth-ranked fifth-year senior Dan Yates (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia HS), 3-1, and kick off a stretch of four straight Panther wins and pull the team score within two. Freshman Domenic Abounader (Gates Mills, Ohio/St. Edward HS) narrowly fell to sixth-ranked Max Thomusseit, 2-0, at 184 pounds. Abounader, ranked 16th, fought off a deep shot in the second period but was ridden out in the third and Thomusseit collected 1:53 in time advantage. Michigan will take three weeks to prepare for the 2014 Big Ten Championships, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9, in Madison, Wis. Hosted by the University of Wisconsin, the first session is slated for 10 a.m. CST on Saturday morning at the Kohl Center. 24. CLARION, Pa. -- The Oklahoma State wrestling team began its weekend overwhelming the Clarion Eagles with a 45-0 shutout in Waldo S. Tippin Gymansium. The dual was highlighted by seven bonus-point wins. The Cowboys earned three pins, two technical falls and two major decisions on the day. The dual started with a 13-5 major decision at 125 pounds, where No. 19 Eddie Klimara took on Hunter Jones of Clarion and earned his 15th win of the season. Fourth-ranked Jon Morrison picked up an 18-3 technical fall in seven minutes over Sam Sherlock. The senior secured his 10th bonus-point win of the season with four takedowns and three sets of back points. "It was good to come out and take care of business like we're supposed to, when it can be easy to look ahead to the dual with Penn State" Morrison said. "Now, I'm excited to be able to focus on the big matchup tomorrow." Clarion threatened to put their first team points on the board at 141 pounds, where Cowboy and No. 19 Anthony Collica battled Tyler Bedelyon in the highest-scoring bout of the day. Bedelyon put a takedown and a two-point nearfall on the board before Collica was able to score a point of his own. The two went back and forth for the full seven minutes, but it was Collica who was victorious, taking it 12-10. Josh Kindig, ranked No. 9 at 149 pounds, gave the Cowboys their next bonus-point victory. Kindig handled Justin Arthur from the beginning, scoring four takedowns in the first period. He went on to score a couple more takedowns to earn the 14-5 major decision. No. 3 Alex Dieringer took on Austin Matthews at 157 pounds. The Port Washington, Wisc., native was only held to an escape in the second period, but still pulled out a commanding 11-4 win over the Eagle. Tyler Caldwell, the fifth-ranked 165 pounder in the nation, gave the orange and black its first pin of the day, sticking Michael Pavasko in 4:34. He was followed by fellow senior and second-ranked Chris Perry, who pinned Ryan Darch in 4:05. Nolan Boyd made the start for the Pokes at 184 pounds, where he faced Dustin Conti. Boyd was awarded three takedowns with three sets of back points, and his riding time point gave him a 17-2 win by technical fall. Kyle Crutchmer made his fourth dual start and third as a 197 pounder. Crutchmer ended his bout quickly with a pin over Daniel Sutherland in 1:33, giving him his first career dual win. "It was nice to get the win," Crutchmer said. "This is definitely something I needed. I'm excited to be a Cowboy and ready to compete again." Ethan Driver stepped up for the Cowboys at heavyweight, closing it out with a 5-3 win over Evan Daley. It was Driver's first start of his career. "It was a good win for us," coach John Smith said. "Now, I'm ready for tomorrow." PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Competing in its final road dual of the season, the Boston University wrestling team posted a 23-15 victory over Brown on Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-9 overall and 2-8 against EIWA opponents. The Terriers never trailed in the match, picking up wins in five of the first six bouts to take a commanding 19-3 lead. Junior Tyler Scotton (141) and senior Alex Najjar (197) both earned major decisions.
