PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Old Dominion (9-7, 5-2 MAC) wrestling team defeated Drexel (4-10, 1-4 EIWA) on Sunday afternoon, 23-12. Junior Tim Young defeated No. 11 Stephen Loiseau by a 5-4 decision at 197 pounds to highlight the afternoon. "Overall we wrestled much better today against Drexel with a higher level of energy and focus than we did on Friday at American," said head coach Steve Martin. "We're very proud of everyone's effort but especially Tim Young's win against a top-12 opponent. We're looking forward to rolling this momentum into the MAC Tournament." Opening the dual with a ranked Drexel opponent in No. 15 Ebed Jarrell, Shane Jones dropped a 6-1 decision, putting the Dragons ahead 3-0. At 174, Luke Drugac picked up a 7-6 decision with a last second takedown to tie up the dual. Dean Drugac then dropped a close 5-3 decision to Anthony Walters. Young's performance at 197 was his first career win over a ranked opponent. At heavyweight, Ali Wahab battled No. 14 Joey Goodhart, but ultimately dropped a 2-1 decision, which was decided by riding time. Michael McGee picked up bonus points at 125, where he defeated Antonio Minnino 16-4 with over four minutes of riding time. McGee posted a perfect 15-0 dual mark this season. Picking up another four team points for the Monarchs, Trevon Majette secured a major decision over Alex Salas. At 141 pounds, Sa'Derian Perry collected six team points with a first period pin over Nick Widmann. After scoring the first takedown of the match, Kevin Budock dropped a 10-4 decision to Parker Kropman, who defeated the nation's No. 2 on Friday night. Closing out the dual, No. 6 Larry Early topped Evan Barczak by a 9-4 decision. LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Behind a trio of first-period pins, the Bucknell wrestling team cruised to a 35-7 victory over Bloomsburg in its dual finale on Sunday at Nelson Field House. The Bison (7-11, 4-7 EIWA) won eight of 10 bouts, racking up bonus points in five, to close their dual season on a high note. Matthew Kolonia (149), Frankie Guida, Jr. (174) and Brandon Stokes (285) all pinned their opponents in the first period, with Stokes putting an exclamation mark on Bucknell's commanding team effort by bringing Michael Porreca's shoulders to the mat in just 1:31 during their heavyweight finale. Thanks to his 8-0 major decision over Kyle Murphy, Drew Phipps (197) will ride a 12-bout winning streak into the EIWA Championships. Phipps went a team-best 15-3 in duals this season, including 10-1 against EIWA opponents. At 22-7 overall, he ranks behind only Zach Hartman (23-6) in overall victories entering the postseason. Freshman Noah Levett (141) earned his first career dual victory in convincing fashion, dropping Lewis Williams by a 15-1 major decision. Wrestling up a weight class, Geo Barzona (133) got the Bison on the board with a 9-2 decision over Shawn Orem. No. 11 Zach Hartman returned to the win column, dispatching Nate Newberry by a 5-1 decision. The freshman standout finished dual competition with a 14-4 record, matching Phipps's 10-1 mark against EIWA foes. Stokes's pin was his second of the weekend; on Saturday at Davis Gym, he pinned Columbia's Danny Conley in 4:59. In addition, Phipps's major decision was his second of the weekend; he now has seven on the season, three more than the second-place Bison. The Bison have now won four of their past five duals with Bloomsburg, with their only loss coming in 2018. The No. 1 St. Cloud State University wrestling team claimed its third consecutive NCAA Division II regional championship with a first place finish at the 2019 NCAA DII Super V Regional tournament on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Moorhead, Minn. The Huskies have won NCAA regional titles in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2013, 2012 and 2011 under the direction of head coach Steve Costanzo. SCSU earned the title with 161 points, while Minnesota State was second with 86 points and Upper Iowa was third at 75. UW-Parkside (71), Augustana (61), MSU Moorhead (59.5), Mary (59), Northern State (57), Southwest Minnesota State (52.5) and Minot State (44) completed the tournament field. Individually, SCSU won eight weight bracket titles and will be sending nine wrestlers to the upcoming NCAA Division II championships on March 7-8 in Cleveland, Ohio. SCSU senior Brett Velasquez won his fourth consecutive regional title at 125-pounds, while Garrett Vos (133), Travis Swanson (141), James Pleski (149), Devin FitzPatrick (165), Kolton Eischens (174), Chance Helmick (184) and Vince Dietz (197) all won regional crowns and Jake Barzowski (157) also placed second for SCSU.

ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The McKendree University men's wrestling program won their first-ever NCAA regional title in program history earlier Saturday evening, all while setting a program record for individual regional champions in a season with four different Bearcats winning their respective weight classes. A total of seven McKendree men's wrestlers advance to the NCAA National Championships, which take place on Friday and Saturday March 8 and 9 in Cleveland, Ohio. The Bearcats were the outright victors in Saturday's regional competition, accumulating 135 total team points. Bearcat wrestlers Isaiah Kemper (Evansville, Ind./Central) (149 lb), Daniel Filipek (Warrenton, MO/Warrenton) (165 lb), Nick Foster (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) (174 lb), and Ryan Vasbinder (Grand Rapids, MI/Grandville) (197 lb) each sat atop their respective podiums, giving McKendree the most first-place finishes out of any other school competing the the Midwest Super Region IV. Along with the four first place finishers, three other Bearcats will be heading to the national stage after Marcus Povlick (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield North) finished in third in the 125 lb class, Nate Smalling (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) finished in second in the 157 lb class, and Michael Pixley (Granite City, IL) finished in second in the 184 lb class. KEARNEY, Neb. -- The third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team had six finish in the top three to win the 2019 NCAA Super Region VI Championships Saturday at the Health & Sports Center. This is the first year of a new six-region format in NCAA Division II with top three finishers in each weight class qualifying for the NCAA Championships March 8-9 in Cleveland, Ohio. The adjusted regional alignment allows 20 more wrestles to reach the national meet (180 total). Heading to Ohio will be seniors Calvin Ochs (2nd/165 lbs.) and Zach Stodden (2nd/174 lbs.), junior Jarrod Hinrichs (3rd/285 lbs.) and sophomores Wesley Dawkins (2nd/133 lbs.), Matt Malcom (1st/157 lbs.) and Josh Portillo (1st/125 lbs.). A new seeding formula will now take place with NCAA brackets slated to come out early the week of March 18. "We had a lot of highs and lows today. I always give the guys some grief that they have to only wrestle three or four matches but I have to wrestle 60 or 70," said Loper head coach Dalton Jensen. "This is a tough tournament and an emotional roller coaster. We're very pleased with the six guys going to nationals and sure we won the region title but we'd obviously be happier with more qualifiers." All 10 Lopers scored today to help the team rack up 121.5 points and another region title. This marks UNK's 15 region title and seventh in the last nine years. No. 11 Western Colorado (110) was a close second with No. 26 Adams State third (102.5). Finishing their season and/or careers today were seniors Nick Babcock (149 lbs.), Isaac Deaton (4th/184 lbs.) and Trey Schlender (5th/197 lbs.) and sophomore Jonathan Killingsworth (4th/141 lbs.) Malcom (Glenwood, Ia.) rolled to the 157 pound title thanks to two tech falls and a major decision. Ranked number one nationally, he is now 25-5 with 19 bonus point wins. He is looking to become a two-time All-American. Also heading back to the big meet is Portillo (Clarion, Ia.) who is ranked second at 125 pounds. His day included his 13th tech fall of the year and back-to-back decisions. Portillo (29-6) had riding time in a 6-3 semis win and then tallied six first period points to take the first place match, 7-5. At 165 pounds, Ochs (Hoxie, Kan.) suffered his first loss of the year, a 5-4 decision in the finals to Adams State's Korey Windham. After see Windham escape in the third tie breaking period to tie things up at three, Ochs (12-1) suffered an injury. That allowed Windham to choose down again and he managed a reversal to pick up the win. "Calvin just has to stay super disciplined in what he's doing. That injury played a factor in the loss but he has to be pretty stingy in what he can do," said Jensen. "Nothing really has changed … he can still win a national title in my eyes." One weight class higher, Stodden (Broomfield, Colo.) returns to nationals for the third time in his career. Aiming to be UNK's 12th three-time All-American, he won two matches by decision before falling to No. 1 ranked Brandon Supernaw of Western Colorado in the first place match. Dawkins (Lincoln H.S.) was the other Loper to reach the finals, thanks to a fall in 1:43 and an 8-0 major decision. Ranked 12th nationally at 133 lbs., he lost to Colorado State-Pueblo's D'Andre Brumfield in the first place match. Brumfield, a former Loper, came in ranked second nationally. Finally among the national qualifiers, Hinrichs (Geneva) bounced back from a quarterfinal loss to reel off four straight victories. Now 32-7 on the year, he had two majors and two decisions to qualify for a second straight season. "Jarrod was a number one seed who lost in the first round. It's a test of your character on how you fight back and come all the way through," said Jensen. "He's super disappointed he didn't win but to win four matches on the back side is so dang tough." 34793 Schlender (Kearney H.S.) won his first two matches at 197 pounds, including one by a 20-0 tally, but dropped his next two to fall into the fifth place match. In his final collegiate match, he went out in style with a fall at 6:59. One class lower, Deaton (Valdez, Alaska) won in the consolation third round and consolation semis to give himself at chance at reaching Cleveland. However, he never led in losing the third place match to San Francisco State's Justin Pichedwatna, 6-3. He finishes up his senior campaign at 7-11. Next, Babcock (Broomfield, Colo.) won once at 149 pounds with Killingsworth (Lincoln S.E.) winning in the quarters and consolation semis to reach the 141 pounds third place bout. There, he gave up five late points to fall to ASU's Dylan Udero, 9-4. He finishes the season at 22-11.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Competing in a dual match for the final time at home in front of the Mat-Town U.S.A. fans, Chance Marsteller (New Park, Pa./Kennard-Dale) and Thomas Haines (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) celebrated 'Senior Night' in style, and sparked the No. 21 Lock Haven University wrestling team (10-3) to a dominating 31-7 victory over visiting Appalachian State (9-7) tonight. Tonight's match featured two teams in search of their 10th win in dual action. App State picked up their ninth dual-win earlier today at Bloomsburg and the Mountaineers looked to carry that momentum into tonight, but after Appalachian State won the night's opening bout at 149 pounds, it was all Lock Haven from there. The pins from nationally-ranked seniors Marsteller and Haines highlighted the win and No. 21 Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) added a bonus-point win at 141. All six nationally-ranked Bald Eagles won tonight as Luke Werner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), DJ Fehlman (Warren, Pa./Warren) and Corey Hazel (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) added wins. Alex Klucker (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Jared Siegrist (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) rounded out the Lock Haven winners as LHU won eight of 10 bouts. Tonight's dual started at 149 and redshirt-freshman Brock Port (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) looked poised for an upset, but in the end he was edged out 3-2 by No. 27, Matt Zovistoski. After the loss at 149 to start the match, the Bald Eagles rattled off four straight wins and led 15-3 at the midway point. Klucker got the Bald Eagles on the board with a strong effort at 157. Klucker's workmanlike effort paved the way for an exciting 13-8 decision over Angel Najar. No. 5 Marsteller ended things quickly at 165, much to the delight of the packed Thomas Fieldhouse crowd. He scored on a quick takedown and needed just 53 seconds to earn the fall over Michael Elliot. Siegrist (174) used a three-takedown effort to drop Thomas Flitz, 7-3 and No. 17 Hazel (184) followed things up with a three-takedown effort of his own on the way to a thrilling 8-2 victory. The visitors got one back at 197, as No. 18 Randall Diable posted a major decision. Lock Haven responded once again and ended the night with four consecutive wins. At 285, No. 22 Haines put on a show. He earned a quick takedown and put his nationally-ranked foe on his back. At the 2:16 mark, Haines earned the pin over No. 26 Cary Miller in a bout that featured two of the best at the weight class. Werner, ranked No. 32 at 125, extended the Bald Eagles lead with a 7-1 win over De'Andrew Swinson-Barr. Fehlman secured a huge win at 133, as the Lock Haven momentum continued to build. Fehlman, ranked No. 30, knocked off No. 29 Codi Russell 11-7 in absolute thriller that headlined the night. Shoop put an exclamation point on the win with another spectacular effort. He won 12-0 as he cruised by Irvin Enriquez. Prior to the match, the Bald Eagles honored Shoop for achieving his 100th career victory last weekend. LHU also honored its three seniors in Marsteller and Haines, along with Derek Dragon (Harvey's Lake, Pa./Lake Lehman). For Haines, tonight's win extended his win streak to eight and Fehlman improved to 7-1 since returning to 133 on January 25. It will be a quick turnaround as the nationally-ranked Bald Eagles officially close the regular season tomorrow (Sunday, February 24) by hosting the Mat-Town Open II Tournament. CLEVELAND, OHIO -- The Binghamton wrestling team finishes its regular season with back-to-back victories over Cleveland State, 22-13 and Kent State, 22-15 Saturday. The Bearcats close out their dual schedule riding a program-high 10 match win streak, securing a 10-3 overall record with an 8-2 mark in conference. "The team did a great job this weekend," head coach Kyle Borshoff said. "Everyone that competed today wrestled hard. Doyle led the team today with two hard-fought pins. We get to carry the momentum of 10 straight dual wins into the postseason. I look forward to seeing what the team can do at EIWA's in the event center in a couple week." The Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers made the trip to Mercyhurst University for Saturday's 2019 NCAA Division I Super Region I Tournament and came away with three individual champions, three runner-ups, and a total of seven national qualifiers to claim the program's 22nd regional championship and the first since 2016. Brendan Howard (125 lbs.), Chris Eddins (149 lbs.), and Levi Niebauer (197 lbs.) all won individual titles for Head Coach Pat Pecora, the 2018-19 Super Region I coach of the Year. In addition, Joey Alessandro (141 lbs.), Corey Falleroni (157 lbs.), and Brock Biddle (184 lbs.) were runner-ups, and Devin Austin (165 lbs.) placed third to earn spots in the NCAA Division II National Championship tournament in Cleveland, Ohio on March 8 and 9. Pitt-Johnstown claimed the team title with 141 points, 39 points better than second-place Kutztown's 102 points. Gannon (94 pts.), Mercyhurst (93.5 pts.), and Seton Hill (72 pts.) rounded out the top-5 in the 10-team tournament. 125 lbs. – Brendan Howard - Champion Howard, ranked ninth nationally, won an 11-1 major decision over Shippensburg's Corbin Hopkins in the quarterfinals, before advancing to the finals with a 15-0 technical fall at 3:12 over Seton Hill's Derrick Chandler-Christie. Howard won his title by shutting out Jacob Dunlap (Gannon), 6-0, in the title bout. 149 lbs. – Chris Eddins – Champion Eddins, the defending National Champion at 141 lbs. and current No. 1-ranked wrestler in the nation at 149 lbs., Pinned Joel Morth (American International) at 6:23 to start the tournament and reached the finals with a 17-2 technical fall in the second period over Mike Clark (Mercyhurst). Eddins then won a 13-1 major decision over Seton Hills Austin Shaw to become Pitt-Johnstown second individual champion. 197 lbs. – Levi Niebauer – Champion Niebauer, also a two-time National Qualifier, defeated East Stroudsburg's Nicholas Klinoff, 8-1, and scored a 15-4 major decision over Seton Hill's Jody Crouse in the semifinals. Niebauer then claimed his first regional title and his third trip to nationals with a 7-3 decision over Millersville Colton Dull. 141 lbs. – Joey Alessandro – 2nd-Place Alessandro, the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the country and top-seed at 141 lbs., cruised into the finals with a technical fall win over Anthony Wiggins (Millersville) and a 9-1 major decision over Aidan Burke (Mercyhurst) in the semifinals. LIU-Post's Joe Calderone pinned Alessandro at 6:04. 157 lbs. – Corey Falleroni – 2nd-Place After pinning Eduardo Ramirez (LIU-Post) at 4:06 in the quarterfinals, Falleroni, now a two-time National Qualifier, advanced to the championship match at 157 lbs. with a 6-4 decision over Kevin Kinyua (Mercyhurst). In the title bout, Gannon's George McGuire held off Falleroni, 8-6. 184 lbs. – Brock Biddle – 2nd-Place Biddle pinned Isaiah Collins (American International) at 1:58, the defeated Nathan Bowlen (Seton Hill), 6-4, in the semifinals to set up a title bout against Kutztown's No. 1-ranked Jeff Reimel. Reimel opened-up a 6-1 first period lead and went on for a 9-2 victory over Biddle. 165 lbs. – Devin Austin –3rd-Place Austin, a two-time National Qualifier, defeated LIU-Post's Dan Arkow, 5-2, in the quarterfinals, but suffered a major decision loss to Logan Grass (Mercyhurst) in the semis. Austin bounced back with a 5-2 win over East Stroudsburg's in the consolation semifinals to reach the third-place match, before punching his third ticket to the National Tournament by defeating Kutztown's Connor Rogovich, 9-3. 133 lbs. – Matt Siszka – 4th-Place After suffering a loss in the opening round, Siszka picked-up three straight decision wins to reach the third-place match. However, Millersville's Ryan McGuire held off Siszka, 3-2, to claim third national qualifying spot at 133 lbs. 174 lbs. – Steve Edwards – 4th-Place Edwards, a 2018 National Qualifier, advanced to the semifinals with a major decision win over Anthony Williamson (Gannon), before suffering a 6-2 loss to Kutztown's Troy Warner. Edwards then won a 9-1 major decision over Mercyhurst's Trevor Johnson in the consolation semis, but Damon Greenwald used a third period take down to slip past Edwards, 4-3, in the third-place match. 285 lbs. – Tyler Oliver – 5th-Place Oliver won his opening round match, the lost a 3-2 decision to Mercyhurst's to Jacob Robb. WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Four Messiah wrestlers claimed their spot in the National Championships as Messiah wrestling earned their sixth-straight Regional Championship. Messiah scored 121 team points on the weekend as Josiah Gehr (125 lbs.), Stephen Maloney (149 lbs.), Brian Shermeyer (174 lbs.), and Victor DeFrance (184 lbs.) finished in the top-three at the regional, punching their tickets to Roanoke, Va. for the National Championships on Mar. 8-9. Ferrum (144.5 points) and Lycoming (114.5) tied for second with Wilkes (106) and Johns Hopkins (85) rounding out the top-five teams. Josiah Gehr earned a 25-10 technical fall in the 125 lbs. Regional Championship bout to claim Messiah's only individual Regional title of the weekend, but both Stephen Maloney (149 lbs.) and Victor DeFrance (184 lbs.) advanced to the Championship bout, but conceded medical forfeits to finish as the runner-up in the Region. Brian Shermeyer had the toughest road to Nationals, earning a third-place finish this weekend. After he dropped his first-round match on Friday, Shermeyer won five-straight matches, including a first-period fall in the third-place match to advance to Nationals for the first time in his career. Bryan Brunk was named the Southeast Regional Coach of the Year after leading Messiah to their sixth-straight Regional Title. Getting to the Finals For the seventh-straight season, Messiah qualified at least four wrestlers for the National Championships with four Falcons heading to Roanoke, Va. in mid-March. Heading into Saturday, Messiah had three wrestlers alive in the championship bracket with Gehr (125 lbs.), Maloney (149), and DeFrance (184) still undefeated. All three earned victories in the semifinals to clinch a top-two finish and earn their spot at Nationals. Gehr faced York's Dylan Nuttall in the semifinal and earned a 15-3 major decision to punch his ticket. Gehr earned three takedowns in the first period, allowing Nuttall to escape twice for a 6-2 lead after three minutes. A takedown and four nearfall points in the second period gave him a commanding 12-3 lead and the freshman cruised to the major decision and a spot in the Regional Final. In the Final, Gehr continued his dominance in the tournament with overwhelming 25-10 victory over Averett's Samuel Braswell to win the regional title at 125 lbs. In the match, Gehr earned four takedowns, eight nearfall points, four penalty points, four escapes, and a riding time point. His weekend featured four victories with a fall, two major decisions, and the technical fall in the final. Gehr's title at 125 lbs. was the only regional title that Messiah won. At 149 lbs., Maloney was in a battle with Gettysburg's Colin Devlin in the semifinal. The Messiah junior earned two reversals in the first period, but trailed 5-4 after two minutes. He took a lead with a pair of nearfall points in the second, but Devlin picked-up a riding time point and the bout was tied 5-5 at the end of regulation. Maloney earned a takedown just 19 seconds into the extra period to earn a spot at the National Championships. After battling an injury at the end of the regular season and with his trip to Nationals already confirmed, Maloney conceded the Regional Final due to injury. York's Gregory Warner stood atop the podium at 149 lbs. with Maloney taking second after a stellar weekend on the mat. Victor DeFrance was also in a tight battle in his semifinal with Johns Hopkins' Isaac Morales. After a scoreless opening period, Morales earned an early escape in the second, but DeFrance took the lead back with a takedown 40 seconds into the period. He rode out Morales for the remainder of the period and held a 2-1 lead heading to the third. Selecting bottom to start the third, DeFrance escaped with 32 seconds remaining in the match to advance to the finals and secure his spot at Nationals. Like Maloney, DeFrance had been battling the injury bug heading into the weekend and took a medical forfeit in the Championship Bout to finish as the runner-up to Rexx Hallyburton from Washington and Lee. All the Way Back While Gehr, Maloney, and DeFrance each made their way through the championship bracket to secure their spot in the National Championships, Brian Shermeyer took a more difficult approach to a bid at 174 lbs. After winning his pigtail match on Friday morning, Shermeyer dropped his first-round bout to Jaden Datz (Washington and Lee) by a 4-3 decision. Datz earned a late takedown in the third period to send Shermeyer to the consolation bracket. That was the last loss that Shermeyer would suffer on the weekend. Across his next four matches in the consolation bracket, Shermeyer would earn two pins, a technical fall, and a decision to advance him to the third-place match. Pitted against Greensboro's Tyron Dudley with the final spot at Nationals on the line. Shermeyer picked up a takedown in the first minute of the period and on a tilt got Dudley's shoulders to the mat for the fall in 2:11. The thrilling fall was his third of the weekend and earned him third-place in the region. Across the two-day tournament, Shermeyer went 6-1 with five-straight wins to earn his spot at Nationals. Capping Off the Season In addition to the four National Qualifiers, Messiah also had three other wrestlers in action on Saturday with Nick Nunez (141 lbs.), Kevin Edwards (157 lbs.), and David Stevens (165 lbs.) advancing to the second day of the tournament. Nunez earned a second-period fall against Eric Hunt (Lycoming) in the consolation quarterfinals, but dropped a 10-3 decision in the consolation semifinals and a tight 4-3 decision in the fifth-place match to end his season with a six-place finish in the region. Both Edwards and Stevens dropped their first match on Saturday and claimed medical forfeits in the seventh-place match to finish their season with seven-place accolades on the season. Wabash captured the team title at the 2019 NCAA Division III Wrestling Central Regional on Saturday. Six Little Giant wrestlers earned top-three individual places in the tourney to earn qualifying spots at the national championship meet to be held March 8 and 9 in Roanoke, Virginia. Wabash captured the team title among the 19 teams in the tourney with a total of 156.5 points, finishing ten points ahead of Baldwin Wallace in second place with 146.5 points. Mount Union placed third in the team standings with a score of 144 points. The Little Giants placed all ten entries in top-eight spots in the finals. Kyle Hatch captured the individual title at 165 pounds. Hatch, a 2018 All-American, returns to the national tournament after posting a pair of victories on Saturday. He needed just 35 seconds to pin Mount Union's Michael McIntire to advance to the finals. Hatch won the weight class title with a 10-6 victory over Anthony Arroyo from Baldwin Wallace in the finals. Darden Schurg, another 2018 All-American for Wabash, will compete in Roanoke at the championship tournament after placing second at 174 pounds. He scored a pin of Clayton Davidson from Ohio Northern in the semifinal round before retiring from the tournament to earn the second-place finish. Wade Ripple placed second at 285 pounds to earn a trip to the national tournament. After earning two pins in Friday's first round, Ripple added a third pin in his semifinal bout versus Nick Joyner from Manchester at the 4:35 mark of their match. Ripple lost to Drew Kasper from Otterbein in the finals to place second overall. Jared Timberman earned a second-place finish at 157 pounds. He defeated Richard Burke from Baldwin Wallace 7-4 in the semifinal round before losing a tight 8-6 decision to Antwon Pugh from Mount Union in the finals. Carlos Champagne captured third place in the 125-pound weight class. The freshman lost an overtime match to Dante Ginnetti from Baldwin Wallace, the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament. Ginnetti sent Champagne to the consolation bracket by a score of 6-4 in a sudden victory win. Champagne rallied to post a 15-1 major decision over Nolan Wochna from Mount Union in the consolation semifinals before defeating Andrew Perelka 8-7 in the finals to grab the final berth at 125 pounds from the Central Regional to the national championship tournament. Owen Doster is headed back to the national tournament for the third consecutive season by finishing in third place in the 133-pound weight class at the regional. A 2017 All-American, Doster opened Saturday's semifinal round with a 3-2 loss before posting a 9-5 win in the consolation semifinals over Reese Wallis from Olivet. Doster defeated Jackson Lakso from Otterbein 9-8 in the finals for the third-place finish. Wabash head coach Brian Anderson was voted the National Wrestling Coaches Association Regional Tournament Head Coach of the Year. Josh Hardman earned NWCA Assistant Coach of the Year honors.

The seven dual wins for the season are also a season high for CSUB Head Coach Manny Rivera. With the victory, CSUB completed a perfect 6-0 run against competition from the state of California this season. To open the year, the `Runners knocked off San Francisco State and Life Pacific. They then beat Cal Poly for their first Pac-12 victory of the season and upset nationally-ranked Stanford and Fresno State. After Kalani Tonge dropped the opening match, Wyatt Gerl wasted no time in recording his first pin as a Roadrunner. The junior needed just 90 seconds to stick Jaron Pagaduan to put CSUB up 6-3. At 165 pounds, Jacob Thalin shutout Jacob Cooper 5-0. After a scoreless first three minutes, Thalin had takedowns in the second and third periods to take control. WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The 24th-ranked Army West Point wrestling team put on a show on senior day with a 22-10 victory in the Star Meet over service-academy rival Navy in front of a packed Christl Arena on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the match, Army recognized seniors Rocco Caywood, Austin Harry, Zach Maxwell, Patrick Mayolo, Graham Ratermann, Katie Silecchia, Peter Strassfield, Ethan Tursini, Conner Ziegler and Harrison Young as part of the senior day ceremony. The Black Knights close out the regular season with an overall record of 8-3, including a 7-1 mark against EIWA opponents. The Mids dropped to 6-4 on the year and 3-3 in conference duals. Army jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after victories by 25th-ranked Trey Chalifoux at 125 pounds and an upset win by Lane Peters over 28th-ranked Casey Cobb at 133. LINCOLN, Neb. -- The seventh-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers sent their five seniors off in style on Senior Day, defeating the Stanford Cardinal 31-9 on Saturday afternoon at the Devaney Center. The Huskers honored five seniors, Tyler Berger, Zeke Moisey, Brian Peska, Jordan Shearer and Aris Shino in an on-mat ceremony before the dual. The dual was originally scheduled for 7 p.m., but was moved up to 1 p.m. because of inclement weather closing in on the area. “It kind of surprised us a little bit, having to move things up and adjust,” Huskers sophomore Chad Red Jr. said. “We had to get some weight off a little bit earlier, but it all ended up working out and we were able to pull out the win.” Five of the seven wins earned by the Huskers came courtesy of bonus points. Chad Red Jr. (141) and Taylor Venz both pinned their opponents while Jordan Shearer (149) and Mikey Labriola (174) took major decisions.Isaiah White (165) won by tech. fall (21-4) to cap off the 22-point victory. NU's #6 Taylor Venz (184) continued the Huskers' hot start by pinning Nainoa Calvo just 1:01 into their match to put the Huskers up 10-0. Venz has won eight of the 10 matches he's wrestled in since 2019 began. He leads the team with seven victories by pinfall and is on track to lead the Huskers in pins for the second straight year. In the first of two matches between ranked wrestlers, 13th-ranked 197-pounder Eric Schultz battled Stanford's Nathan Traxler, the #12 ranked 197-pounder in the country. With the score knotted at four after three periods, the match went to sudden victory, with each wrestler earning multiple escape points before Traxler was declared victorious by criteria following the third tie-breaker period. A five second riding timing advantage allowed Traxler to edge out Schultz. At heavyweight, Stanford's Haydn Maley scored near-fall points in the second period to propel himself to a 6-4 victory over NU's Christian Lance, who made his third dual appearance of the season. A junior from Nixa, Mo., Lance transferred from Division II Fort Hays St. last year. The dual then shifted to the lightweights, where at 125, #16 Zeke Moisey (NEB) grappled with 20th-ranked Gabriel Townsell. Moisey used a critical second period takedown and accumulated over two minutes of riding time to earn a 4-1 victory in his final match at the Devaney Center. True freshman Jevon Parrish (133) scored a third period takedown but couldn't quite overcome Stanford's Mason Pengilly, who earned a hard-fought 5-2 victory at 133. #20 Chad Red Jr. (141) scored the second first period pinfall of the dual for the Huskers when he pinned Anthony Le 1:30 into their match at 141. His pin gave the Huskers a 19-9 lead over the Cardinal with three matches to go. At 149 pounds, Jordan Shearer continued to roll up points for the Huskers as he landed an early takedown and a four-point nearfall in the first period. He went on to take a 15-3 major decision victory over Steven Abbate. Shearer ended his final home dual as a Husker with his second straight victory by bonus points. #2 Tyler Berger (157) capped off his final dual at the Devaney Center by defeating Dominick Mandarino 2-1 in tightly contested match at 157 pounds. For the first time in his career, redshirt junior Zack Chakonis (197) notched back-to-back pins, as he topped Illinois' Andre Lee with win by fall last weekend. He defeated SIUE's Christian Dulaney in four minutes, giving NU a 6-0 advantage to start the dual. Redshirt senior Conan Jennings (285), the 14th-ranked heavyweight in the nation, was also dominating, shutting out Jake McKiernan, 11-0. Jennings finishes his senior regular season with a 15-8 mark, including nine dual wins. Redshirt sophomore Sebastian Rivera (125), the top-ranked 125-pounder in the nation, posted a commanding, 19-4 tech fall win (5:50) over Gage Datlovsky. The Bobcats finished the regular season with a 4-3 record in non-conference dual meets. With the match beginning at 133 pounds, Gardner-Webb grabbed a 6-0 lead when redshirt freshman Brandon Bright won by forfeit. The Bobcats answered with three-straight wins to take a 13-6 lead, however. Senior Cameron Kelly (Bellbrook, Ohio) picked up a 20-6 win by major decision over freshman Blake Mulkey at 141 to put Ohio on the board. Competing in their home and dual finale, the Bears (8-6, 6-5 EIWA) tallied three technical falls, two major decisions, and a fall in their victory over the Pioneers (5-7, 1-5 EIWA) as the hosts closed the regular season on a four-dual win streak. "We won our last four dual meets to end the regular season so we have a lot of momentum heading into the EIWA Championships," Brown head coach Todd Beckerman said. LEXINGTON, Va. -- Red-shirt junior Dom Gallo won by a technical fall late in Saturday's dual match with The Citadel to power the VMI wrestling team to 23-22 Southern Conference victory. The score was tied at 18 all with only the 141 and 149-pound bouts remaining. Gallo scored a 17-2 technical fall victory at 141 to put VMI ahead 23-18. The Citadel needed a pin at 149 to win the dual, but Keydet freshman Zach Schmitt held on despite finding himself in a tough position late in the match, and Bulldog Selwyn Porter scored a 16-5 major decision win worth four points. The contest started with the 157 pounders and VMI took an early 3-0 lead as Darren Ostrander won 12-8. Red-shirt junior Neal Richards needed just 26 seconds to pin his opponent's shoulders to the mat at 174, his 19th-straight victory on the season. Max Gallahan won 8-2 at 184 to put the Keydets ahead 12-5, but The Citadel won the next two contests to tie the score at 12 all. Davenport University will be adding a women's intercollegiate wrestling program which will take to the mats in 2020-21, the Michigan-based school announced this week. Jamie Boyd, head coach of Davenport's men's wrestling program, will also lead the new women's program which will become the fifth intercollegiate sport for women at the school. Davenport's women wrestlers will compete in Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association, becoming the 38th such program in the U.S., and the second in the state of Michigan. "As we assessed the athletic landscape in our region, we noticed a consistent uptick of interest in women's wrestling," said Paul Lowden, executive director of intercollegiate athletics at Davenport University. "We have continued to gauge the growth of women's wrestling in our area, which included the addition of the first Michigan High School Girls Wrestling Finals. With the addition of a collegiate women's wrestling program at Davenport, we feel that we can offer a unique opportunity for females to extend their wrestling careers while achieving their academic goals." Coach Boyd weighed in with his thoughts on Davenport's newest intercollegiate sports program. "I believe it is a tremendous step for this University in showing its support for the sport of wrestling by establishing a women's program in 2020," said Boyd. "The state of Michigan alone has an abundance of highly-talented female wrestlers that will now have the opportunity to continue their wrestling careers while obtaining a great education. I am very excited about building the foundation for the women's program and looking forward to our first season." Back in the 1970s, the Vanguard Lions wrestling program made its presence known well beyond its Orange County home. From 1972-75, Vanguard wrestlers won three consecutive NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) District III Championships. The 1975 wrestling team crafted a perfect 20-0 record, sending six members to the NAIA National Championships. One -- Paul LeBlanc -- earned All-American honors by placing fourth in the 142-pound weight class. For all these accomplishments, Vanguard's 1975 wrestling team was welcomed into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. With the return of wrestling to the Vanguard campus, the school will now be the first four-year college in Orange County to offer the sport. The school hopes to attract some of the 245,000 male high school wrestlers currently competing throughout the nation, including 22,000 male wrestlers in California. In addition to the return of wrestling, Vanguard also revealed the addition of a men's volleyball program, also beginning intercollegiate competition this fall. "We are excited to bring men's wrestling and men's volleyball to Vanguard University and the Orange County community," said Director of Athletics Jeff Bussell. "Being located in one of the greatest regions for wrestling and men's volleyball, we are prepared to offer student-athletes the opportunity to continue their athletic career while earning their college degree with a Christ-centered perspective. In speaking to the community on both of these new sports, there has been a great deal of enthusiasm already. We look forward to investing and having a transformational impact on each student-athlete that comes through Vanguard University." Vanguard University plans to launch its search for a wrestling coach, along with the recruitment of potential student-athletes. Vanguard University is a private, four-year school located in Costa Mesa, Calif. in Orange County just south of Los Angeles. Founded in 1920, Vanguard has a total enrollment of approximately 2,500 students.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The No. 12 Arizona State wrestling team sent their senior class in celebratory fashion as they defeated the Cal Poly Mustangs 32-7 Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena in the Beauty and the Beast meet with Sun Devil Gymnastics. The Sun Devils won all but two bouts in the meet, and four of their eight victories came by bonus points. Cory Crooks started the evening off with an 8-4 decision over Wyatt Cornelison at 141 lbs. before No. 18 Josh Maruca (149) earned a victory by way of forfeit, earning six more points for the Sun Devils. At 157 lbs., No. 12 Christian Pagdilao earned a 5-4 decision over Brawley Lamar. No. 4 Josh Shields picked up the Sun Devils' first bonus point victory of the day at 165 lbs., earning a 18-6 major decision over Joe La Rosa. At 174 lbs., No. 3 Zahid Valencia pinned Nathan Tausch in 1:26, bringing ASU's lead to 22-0 heading into the break. The Sun Devils picked up another victory coming out of halftime, as senior Jacen Petersen (184) defeated William DeBoer in a 4-1 decision. Cal Poly picked up what would be their only victories of the meet at 197 lbs. and 285 lbs. bringing the score to 25-7 in favor of the home team. In his final regular season bout for the Maroon and Gold, senior Ryan Milhof (125) earned a major decision over Benny Martinez, 15-2. No. 25 Josiah Kline closed out the night with an 11-6 decision over Yoshito Funakoshi at 133 lbs. Following the match, Milhof, Petersen, Austyn Harris, Nikko Villareal, Ted Rico, Noor Almusahwi, Andy Gandara, Kaevon Buckley and Connor Small were honored, as seniors from both the wrestling and gymnastics teams were joined by their families at the center of the mat for senior night festivities. For the first time since 2016, Arizona State welcomes the 2019 Pac-12 Wrestling Championships in Tempe on Saturday, Mar. 9. A champion at each weight class will be crowned while several NCAA automatic qualifiers will also be decided. RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The Oregon State wrestling team ended the regular season on a high note as they won the first ever meeting between OSU and Cal Baptist on Friday night inside of Van Dyne Gym. The Beavers (5-8, 2-2 Pac-12) defeated the Lancers (2-5) by a final score of 33-7. Kegan Calkins started the evening off for the Beavers wrestling at 141 pounds for the first time this season. Calkins trailed 2-1 after the first period, and after an escape from CBU in the second period he trailed 5-2. The senior used two takedowns plus a two-point near fall securing the comeback win by decision in the final period, 8-6. Making his first start of the season at 149 pounds, Conner Noonan matched up against the 2018 Division II champion at 149 pounds in Daxton Gordon. Noonan fell behind early in the first period, and couldn't surmount a comeback as he lost by major decision 19-7. Zech Bresser jumped out to a big lead at 157 pounds making his fourth start of the season for OSU. Bresser opened up with a slick duck-under for a takedown, and used another takedown into a four-point near fall for an 8-1 lead after the first period. An escape for Jaron Pagaduan (CBU) in the third cut the lead to six, but a takedown in the final twenty seconds gave Bresser the major decision, 10-2. The Beavers against struck first in the match at 165 pounds between Aaron Olmos (OSU) and Jacob Cooper (CBU). Olmos secured a takedown thirty seconds into the match carrying a 2-1 into the second period. The redshirt freshman secured his third dual win of the season with a 5-3 decision. The 174 pound match featured Oregon State's Colt Doyle versus Cal Baptist's Bryce Buckley. Doyle and Buckley had a few lengthy scrambles throughout the opening frame with Doyle finally breaking through for a 2-0 lead. He ended the first period with a four-point near fall, failing to secure the pin before time expired. The redshirt junior went on to win by major decision, 12-2. Cal Baptist won its second bout of the evening at 184 pounds in sudden victory. Bob Coleman led early thanks to a late period takedown in the first. Garret Strang (CBU) had a takedown in the second taking a 3-2 lead, but a third period escape for Coleman sent the match to sudden victory where CBU won, 5-3. Jamarcus Grant ended his recent skid in dual meets with a well wrestled match from start to finish. Grant and Ali'I Loyola (CBU) battled throughout the first period with Loyola getting a takedown, before a Grant reversal knotted the match at 2-2. Another reversal from Grant in the second gave the redshirt sophomore a 4-2 lead heading into the final period of regulation where he secured the fall and six team points for the Beavers. The nation's No. 3-ranked heavyweight, Amar Dhesi, made things look easy against Zach Schrader. Dhesi had already accumulated two takedowns before settling in for the fall in 2-minutes, 13-seconds and six more team points for OSU. No. 3 Ronnie Bresser had a battle with Antonio Saldate throughout much of the match as the pair ended the first period tied 3-3. With a bottom start in the second, Bresser got away quickly and tacked on a takedown for a 6-3 lead. Injury time for CBU enabled Bresser for another bottom start which he took advantage of for an escape and 7-3 led after two periods. Bresser went on to win by decision, 9-7, for his team-leading 21st victory of the season. The final bout of the evening featured Devan Turner (OSU) against Vincent Zavala (CBU). Turner struck first with a takedown a minute into the match, he continued to stay on top for the remainder of the period using a four-point tilt for a 6-0 advantage. Turner would go on to win by major decision, 14-2. Oregon State won by a final team score of 33-7. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The 15th-ranked wrestling team concluded the 2018-19 season on a high night Friday night, defeating No. 23 Virginia, 20-15, at Memorial Gymnasium to finish the season 13-3. The Panthers finish with 13 wins on the year for the fifth time in program history and for the first time since the 2013-14 season. For the third consecutive dual, the deciding match came down to the final bout. Tonight's dual came down to redshirt sophomore Gregg Harvey at 174 pounds and he got the job done, holding off the Cavaliers en route to the team victory. "It was a good way to end the regular season," said second year head coach Keith Gavin. "Our guys wrestled tough today. Now we focus on getting the most out of each day and keep improving for the ACC Championships." The ACC dual began at 184 pounds, featuring redshirt freshman Nino Bonaccorsi. Bonaccorsi, who ranks No. 11 in his weight class, dominated Will Schany in a 12-3 major decision to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead. Redshirt junior Kellan Stout then dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 10 Jay Aiello, 3-1, before junior Demetrius Thomas recorded his 24th win of the year at heavyweight. Thomas defeated Tyler Love in a 21-10 major decision to give Pitt an 8-3 lead in the team race. The Cavaliers tied things up, 8-8, after freshman Brendon Fenton suffered a 21-10 technical fall to No. 5 Jack Mueller at 125 pounds in 3:50. Senior LJ Bentley got things going again for Pitt at 141 pounds after recording a 7-4 decision over Scott Kiyono. Virginia continued to chip away at the Panthers' lead after picking up a win at 149 pounds, bringing the team score to 14-11. Redshirt junior Taleb Rahmani responded at 157 pounds by dominating Jake Keating, 14-9, before sophomore Tommy O'Brien dropped a 12-4 major decision to Cam Coy at 165 pounds. Entering the final bout, with the team score at 17-15, Harvey outlasted Robert Patrick at 174 pounds. At the end of regulation, Harvey and Patrick were tied 1-1 to force overtime. Harvey came out victorious after escaping in TB-2, securing the team win for Pitt, 20-15.
