  1. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Juniors Jarrod Snyder and Dominic Ducharme earned major decision victories to lead the CSU Bakersfield wrestling team past Duke University on Saturday afternoon at the Icardo Center. The Roadrunners won nine of the duals' 10 matches and routed the visiting Blue Devils by a score of 41-4. "I liked the way we competed today," said Head Coach Manny Rivera. "It was an unusual day and I wish we would have had a full slate of opportunities for evaluation, but the guys we sent to the mat were focused and determined." Duke forfeited bouts at 125, 141, 149 and 165 pounds spotting the Roadrunners a quick 24 points. CSUB added 17 more points when it took five of the six contested duals versus the Blue Devils. Kalani Tonge got the `Runners off to a fast start picking up a 10-5 decision over Duke's Eric Carter at 157 lbs. In his first dual match-up of the season, Tonge steadily pulled away from Carter winning each period of his bout before adding the riding time point to his final margin. Tonge was a last-minute insertion into the line-up and improves to 9-1 on the season with today's win. Josh Annis was another late substitution into the `Runner starting line-up. After wrestling all season at 174 lbs, Annis slotted up a weight class and defeated Duke's Kai Blake, 7-0. Annis took each period by identical 2-0 scores and easily handled his heavier opponent to add the ride time point. "We always know we'll always get maximum effort from Josh," Rivera said. "He's confident and he makes zero excuses. I'm not at all surprised he was able to handle what we asked of him today." Snyder took immediate control of his match, taking Blue Devil Jonah Niesenbaum to the mat less than 30 seconds into their bout. He increased his margin in the second period posting an escape and an immediate takedown before Niesenbaum was hit with his second stall warning. Snyder closed out the match with a 5-1 third period, picking up his second win by major decision on the year by a 12-1 margin. "Jarrod put together a complete match," Rivera added. "He competed from start to finish, was excellent on top and on the bottom and he was great offensively and defensively." Ducharme added a major decision victory of his own when he defeated Vincent Baker, 13-5. After a tight first period, Ducharme blew the match open in the second period when he outscored his Duke opponent by a 4-1 margin. All told, the junior posted four take downs and one reversal in his four-point win. Chance Rich added CSUB's sixth victory of the day when he outlasted Harrison Campbell in a narrow, back-and-forth bout by a 6-5 score. Duke picked up its lone win of the day when #30 Mason Eaglin knocked off Albert Urias, 8-0. Urias hung tight with the ranked Blue Devil, trailing just 2-0 heading into the bout's final period. A quick Eaglin escape led to a subsequent takedown and a pair of back points to set the final margin. Jacob Thalin, Alex Hernandez-Figueroa, Angelo Martinoni and Russell Rohlfing each picked up forfeited victories for the `Runners. Thalin's win was his 10th of the season and the 50th of his career, while Rohlfing earned his 76th win as a Roadrunner to move into a tie for 39th all-time in CSUB history. Bakersfield returns to action next weekend when they travel for road matches at Wyoming and Northern Colorado. The `Runners dropped home matches to both opponents last season, losing to the Cowboys 25-6 and dropping a close-knit affair with the Bears, 17-16. (44-0). 20 former Spartans were in recognized at today's match for Alumni Day, including Hall of Fame coach and the all-time wins leader at MSU, Grady Peninger. "I was talking to the guys back there in the locker room after the meet," said Chandler. "I've never been part of a Big Ten shutout. This is a special day for these guys. They are the ones that did it, and at the end of the day you have to go out there and wrestle your best and wrestle in all positions for seven minutes and good things typically happen. Our guys did that, and because of that they got a shutout today and they are going to enjoy this." Michigan State started out at 125 pounds for just the second time in four bouts. 4. NORMAN -- Oklahoma defeated No. NR/23 West Virginia, 22-18, Sunday afternoon in McCasland Field House. The Sooners (3-2 overall, 1-1 Big 12) capitalized on three bonus-point victories to pull ahead of the Mountaineers (3-8 overall, 0-2 Big 12). "I think every time we took a little bit of a setback, somebody stepped up and did their job," said OU head coach Lou Rosselli. "I think that's really important as a team ... That's why you compete." Oklahoma built an early 8-0 lead to open the dual, courtesy redshirt senior Christian Moody and sophomore Anthony Madrigal. Moody claimed an 8-4 decision over West Virginia's Joey Thomas, followed by No. 18/23 Madrigal's 20-4 tech fall victory over Lucas Seibert. Madrigal racked up 14 points in the first period alone, tallying four takedowns, a two-point nearfall and four-point nearfall. The Oak Park, Ill., native added six more points in the second period to secure the tech fall and a season-high 20 match points. Madrigal sits at second on the team with four victories via tech fall, only behind Dom Demas (5). The Mountaineers responded in the 141-bout, as Caleb Rea pinned the Sooners' No. 6/7 Demas in the first period. The upset cut the Sooners' lead to 8-6. It was just Demas' third loss of the season (16-3) and his first to a Big 12 opponent (4-1). At 149 pounds, No. 24/NR Jacob Butler put together a stellar match to earn OU another key bonus point. Leading 2-0 after the first period, the redshirt freshman eclipsed three minutes of riding time midway through the second before adding a four-point nearfall to close out the period. With another escape and the riding time point, Butler closed out the 10-0 shutout and added four points to the Sooners' total, extending the lead to 12-6. It wasn't the first time Butler has been a key to OU's success this season, as he's been able to put together an impressive campaign and find his way into national rankings. "He's wrestled a lot of top-tier guys, and I think he's starting to believe now that he can really compete," said Rosselli. "I think now he's got a belief system, and he's expecting himself to win. That's always good." No. 20/17 Justin Thomas took yet another 157-pound bout to the wire, eventually pulling out a 7-5 decision. Deadlocked at 5-5 late in the third period, Thomas took down WVU's Alex Hornfeck with just 12 seconds remaining to take the advantage that would hold. The clutch finish gave Oklahoma a 15-6 lead and the momentum heading into the break. West Virginia cut into its deficit when No. 25/27 Nick Kiussis pinned Sooner freshman Sam Dover in the 165-pound match. With just a three-point lead, the Sooners looked to No. 10/16 Anthony Mantanona to pull away, and the redshirt sophomore delivered. With a 5-0 lead and riding time accumulating late in the third period, Mantanona recorded a clutch takedown to extend his lead to 7-0. Finishing with nearly six minutes of riding time, the extra point pushed the bout to an 8-0 major decision and gave the Sooners a critical bonus point, extending the OU lead to 19-12. It was Mantanona's fifth dual victory on the season, making him and Thomas the lone Sooners still 5-0 in dual action. At 184, Darrien Roberts secured Oklahoma's final win of the day with a 7-3 decision against Mountaineer Jackson Moomau. The true freshman, who has become a mainstay in the Sooner lineup, improves to 3-2 in dual matches and 9-6 on the season. In a matchup that could return with Big 12 and national implications later in the season, West Virginia's No. 5/2 Noah Adams got the best of No. 13/11 Jake Woodley with a 6-1 decision. While he dropped the bout, Woodley was successful in preventing a bonus-point victory, putting the score at 22-15 with one bout remaining and securing the Sooner victory. Josiah Jones and WVU's Brandon Ngati took the heavyweight bout, the dual's final match, to a tiebreaker period, where Ngati was able to pull out the 2-1 decision and make the final score 22-18. The victory improved the Sooners' record to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in Big 12 action, while West Virginia drops to 3-8 and 0-2 against conference opponents. UP NEXT The Sooners take a road swing through the Dakotas, opening next weekend with a 7 p.m. dual at North Dakota State on Friday in Fargo, N.D. 7. LANCASTER, Pa. -- Sunday wasn't for the faint of heart in Mayser gymnasium as Franklin & Marshall split a pair of memorable Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) doubleheaders. The Diplomats (4-3, 1-2 EIWA) dropped a heartbreaking 18-17 match to Sacred Heart that was decided by the third tiebreaker criteria, before toppling Brown by a 21-19 score. The triumph over the Bears marked F&M's first win in the series since the 1964-65 season and snapped a 24-match winless streak against Brown. Against Brown, F&M got off to a quick start with Diaz's second win of the day, a 7-5 decision at 125 pounds. A Bears' major at 133 temporarily put a hold on F&M's momentum before Gil answered at 141 with a commanding pin at 5:35. Brown once again brought the overall score within one at 9-8 with an 8-0 major at 149 pounds, but Noah Chan's 12-6 decision, followed by a key pin by LiCastri at 3:48 extended the Diplomat lead to 18-8 with four matches remaining. Three straight wins by Brown, including a pair of majors, gave the Bears a 19-18 lead heading into the final bout of the night. Pelusi led the 285-pound matchup by one after the first period and picked up an escape in the second to pull ahead 2-0. A momentous takedown in the third helped stave off a late escape from Brown as Pelusi prevailed with a 4-2 decision to seal the team score for F&M. 8. MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- An outstanding start and a timely momentum-shifting win late helped the Central Michigan wrestling team to a 25-15 victory over SIU Edwardsville in a Mid-American Conference dual on Sunday at McGuirk Arena. The win lifted CMU to 3-4, 3-2 MAC, and it helped the Chippewas bounce back from Friday's disappointing 25-13 loss to perennial MAC-champion Missouri. "It was pretty disappointing losing to Missouri because we all felt that we could beat them, but we all bounced back (on Sunday), we all wrestled tough," CMU junior Dresden Simon said. "We didn't let that (loss) affect us today." How It Happened The Chippewas got off to a hot start, getting a pin from Drew Hildebrandt (125 pounds), a technical fall from Drew Marten (133), and then a major-decision victory from Simon (141) in building a 15-0 lead. The Cougars, 1-8, 0-5, struck back with four-consecutive victories including a pin at 157 to forge a 15-15 tie with three matches remaining. The Chippewas won all three, beginning with Ben Cushman's solid 4-0 victory over Austin Andres at 184. It snapped a four-match losing streak for Cushman, a redshirt freshman, who last won at the Midlands Championships in late December. Cushman got a takedown in the second period in seizing a 3-0 lead, and then rode Andres for the entire third period to earn the riding-time point as he picked up his first dual-meet victory of the season. "That's the first time Cushman's won in a little while so that was a really important win for him and for the team," CMU coach Tom Borrelli said. "It was huge for the team. Somebody had to stem the tide when they started getting the momentum. Cushman did that." Closing it Out Cushman's win put CMU ahead, 18-15, and then Landon Pelham posted a 15-2 major-decision win at 197 and Matt Stencel won, 7-2, at 285 for the final margin. It was Pelham's first major of the season as he improved to 14-8. Stencel, who is ranked 12th nationally, improved to 21-4. Hot Start Hildebrandt, who is ranked 12th, posted a second-period pin to put the Chippewas up 6-0, and then Marten followed with a 17-1 technical fall. It was his second technical fall of the season. Hildebrandt (23-3) posted pins in both of the Chippewas' duals on the weekend, giving him five on the season as he improved his dual-meet record to 7-0. Marten (15-10) had lost four of his previous five matches. Simon, who is ranked 13th, led Saul Ervin, 2-1, after one period, and then hit the gas in the second period, getting a reversal, a takedown and a four-point near fall to increase his advantage to 10-2 after two periods. It was Simon's second major of the weekend as he improved to 21-7 with 10 majors. He entered the meet ranked second nationally in major-decision victories. "I remember as a freshman coach talking about trying to score 10 points every match," Simon said. "That's kind of what I try to do, score 10 or more points every match; just keep scoring. I try not to settle. "A lot of times in the past I would be up by a certain amount of points, maybe five points, and I'm like, alright, this is good enough, and I haven't really felt like that this year. I don't want to wait around for the guy to score on me or lose a match because I'm settling for something." Next The Chippewas will hit the road in two weeks for two MAC duals, the first at Ohio on Jan. 31 and the second at league-newcomer Cleveland State on Feb. 2. "Anytime you have success it's helpful," Borrelli said. "I wouldn't say that we don't have things to work on. That's a good thing, it's what you're looking for when you compete; it's a lot better to have things to work on when you've won than when you've lost. "We can do a lot of work this week on improving, getting healthy, maybe work on our conditioning some. We have two pretty tough matches in the conference. We just have to have a good week of practice and make sure we're healthy." 9. BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- For the second straight dual, the Golden Eagle wrestling team's victory hinged on wins in the final two bouts of the day. And just as on Friday night against Buffalo, Greg Bulsak and Ty Bagoly delivered, bringing Clarion back from a 15-10 deficit to a 16-15 win over Bloomsburg on Sunday. That marked the eighth straight dual win for the Golden Eagles, the longest streak since winning nine straight between the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons. The last time Clarion won as many as eight straight in a single season was during that 1993-94 season, when they opened with 10 straight wins. The two teams split the 10 bouts on the mat, meaning the fact that Clarion (8-3, 5-2 MAC) earned the sole bonus point of the match was truly the difference. Brock Zacherl continued his undefeated streak in MAC competition with a major decision over Aaron Coleman, working Coleman over in the third period to secure a 14-5 win. Another key moment came in the 174-pound bout, with Max Wohlabaugh quickly taking down Anthony Vetrano during the sudden victory period for a 5-3 decision. Cam Butler also earned his second straight MAC win, holding off Christian Gannone in the 125-pound bout to put his team on the scoreboard. The Huskies still led the dual 15-10 heading into the last two bouts of the day, with the Golden Eagles needing wins in each to lock up the win. Bulsak grappled in a low-scoring bout with perennial nemesis Kyle Murphy at 197 pounds, at one point quickly escaping from a reverse and fighting off a shot to finish with a 4-2 decision. Bagoly very nearly took bonus points from Jarrett Walters at heavyweight as well, tilting him for a two-point fall and riding him throughout the bout for a 6-0 decision. Old Dominion earned the first six points of the match, taking sudden-victory wins at 125 and 133, but Rider would answer back with a Peter Lipari (Byram Township, NJ/Bergen Catholic [Rutgers]) decision at 141 over Old Dominion's Sa'Darian Perry, 5-4. 12. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 4 Ohio State University wrestling team (7-1, 3-0 B1G) erased an early deficit and ultimately tore through Illinois (4-3, 1-2 B1G), 28-6. The Buckeyes won the final eight bouts of the afternoon, including five victories over nationally-ranked Fighting Illini. The highest-ranked win came from the unranked (for now) Rocky Jordan in the 184-pound tilt. Jordan picked up his 22nd win of the season, an impressive one over No. 11 Zac Braunagel. Ethan Smith handed an ‘L' to the Braunagel name as well, getting past Danny Braunagel in a tightly-contested 3-1 decision. Additional top-25 triumphs for Ohio State came from Luke Pletcher (def. No. 12 Dylan Duncan), Elijah Cleary (def. No. 22 Eric Barone) and Kaleb Romero (def. No. 16 Joey Gunther). Sammy Sasso and Kollin Moore were not pitted against top-25 guys, and it showed as both threw bonus points on to the scoreboard. 14. NEW YORK -- Down by four points heading into the final match at 133 pounds, Columbia Wrestling (2-2, 2-1 EIWA/0-1 IVY) needed at least five to lock up the win, and first-year Angelo Rini was up to the task, doing just that, recording a 22-7 technical fall win to push Columbia to a 21-20 complete team win over Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association foe American (2-5, 2-3 EIWA) in the home opener at the University "Blue" Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. The Lions collected wins from first years Kyle Mosher (157), Lennox Wolak (174) and Rini, along with wins from junior Riley Jacops (165) and sophomore Sam Wustefeld (197) to power past a competitive and tough American side to lock up the big win. Big bonus points came from Rini's tech fall, a pin by Wolak and a major decision from Wustefeld, with every point making the difference in the final score. "It is just a good team win," said Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling Zach Tanelli. "And while Angelo [Rini] is responsible for some of it, other guys played just as big a role. Up and down our lineup guys found ways to win, and even in our losses we were able to turn some things around. "Even at 184 pounds with Joe Franzese, who had been pinned early in the season by the same guy, was able to save two points for us by not getting pinned and taking the major decision and that was big, because it is a victory within the victory that is important. And overall it was just a real team effort against a really solid team in American." HOW IT HAPPENED: The match opened up at 141 pounds, with sophomore No. 24 Matt Kazimir falling by a 5-1 decision to No. 27 Sal Profaci to give American a quick 3-0 lead in the match. At 149 pounds, first-year Andrew Garr lost via fall (2:27) to No. 11 Kizhan Clarke, pushing American ahead 9-0 after the first two matches. But it was the next three matches where Columbia would put its foot down and fight right back into the match. It started with a big win from Mosher, who worked hard to get a 10-7 decision of Ethan Karsten, to get Columbia on the board at 9-3. Next up came the momentum swinging match of the day, when at 165 pounds, Jacops, down late in the match, hit a reversal at 23 seconds to take a 5-4 lead and he would go on to win via 5-4 decision over Anthony Wokasch, bringing the score to 9-6. Ridding the momentum wave set in motion by Mosher at 157 pounds, Wolak next put the hammer down against Ben Root, recording a win via pin at 5:17, pushing Columbia into the lead, 12-9, as the match hit the midway point. During the midway point of the match, the Lions took the time to welcome back and honor a large collection of alumni, and it gave everyone a chance to collect their thoughts as the action over the next five matches would decide the bout. Coming out of the break, No. 16 Tanner Harvey won via major decision (19-6) over junior Joe Franzese at 184 pounds, pushing American back in front 13-12. But again, the Lions had an answer, with Wustefeld taking down Will Jarrell in a dominating performance that resulted in a 13-4 major decision victory to lock up big bouns points for the Lions, putting the score at 16-13 with three bouts remaining. American would take the next two matches, with sophomore Danny Conley falling via a major decision, 9-1, to Niko Camacho, and sophomore No. 31 Joe Manchio, falling in a tough match to No. 24 Gage Curry, via decision 10-5, giving American a 20-16 lead heading into the final match at 133 pounds, and putting Columbia in a position, due to criteria, where the only road to victory was via a major decision or win via fall. Rini, facing Daniel Kidd, knew the situation and from the second the whistle blew Rini went to work. He scored quickly, and began a strategy of cutting Kidd lose, then working the takedown, and with seconds remaining, and ridding time locked up, Rini nearly pinned Kidd to lock up six points. But the clock hit zero just before the pin, but Rini had already locked up the technical fall victory, 22-7, and his big five points gave the Lions an exciting and team-earned 21-20 victory over American. VMI's 19th-ranked Neal Richards gave the Keydets their second win at 174. They also took three points at heavyweight to close out the match. Sophomore Matthew Waddell, No. 21 at 184 this week, scored a pin over Max Gallahan in the second period. It was his team-leading fifth pin of the year as he won for the seventh time in his last nine matches. Senior Rodney Jones closed out the Mocs scoring with a major decision at 197. 16. LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell wrestling team won nine of 10 bouts to drop Brown, 31-3, on Sunday afternoon at Davis Gym. The Bison (4-3, 3-1 EIWA) netted bonus points in two of their individual wins, helping them score their largest margin of victory over the Bears (0-3, 0-2 EIWA) in program history. They previously downed Brown, 31-7, on Feb. 19, 2011 in Providence, R.I. Zach Hartman, who is ranked as high as 16th nationally at 165 pounds, pinned his opponent in the first period for the second-straight dual. This time, he brought Kiran Srikanth's shoulders to the mat in 1:55; during yesterday's victory over Harvard, he needed just 1:10 to pin Zeth Dean. David Campbell (141) electrified the Davis Gym crowd early in the dual, scoring a 15-6 major decision over Samuel Lynch. Campbell picked up the takedown he needed to capture bonus points for the Bison in the dying minutes of regulation; earlier in the bout, he registered a takedown and two back points in quick succession to flip a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 advantage. Despite the lopsided score, the dual wasn't without drama. Four bouts were decided by two or fewer points, highlighted by Matthew Kolonia's last-second win over Ricky Cabanillas at 149 pounds. After Cabanillas picked up a takedown in the final 10 seconds of regulation, Kolonia was awarded a penalty point to even the score at 6-6; then, Kolonia scored a reversal with just a second left on the clock to emerge an 8-6 victor. In addition, Brandon Seidman (125) clipped Trey Keeley, 3-2, on a third-period escape while Brown's Brandon Kui edged Kyle Inlander (184), 3-1, on a last-second takedown. Returning to the heavyweight spot for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign, Brandon Stokes pulled out a gritty 3-1 decision over a much bigger James Valentino. In a bout punctuated by multiple stoppages due to Stokes's bloody nose, the Bison senior rode out Valentino for the majority of the second and third frames en route to his victory. Over the course of the dual, Bucknell's wrestlers racked up an impressive amount of riding time. 17. IOWA CITY, Iowa. -- The top-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team defeated No. 7 Nebraska, 26-6, on Saturday night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. In its first appearance at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in seven weeks, Iowa won eight-of-10 bouts, including three-of-four top 10 matchups, to improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten. Spencer Lee opened the dual with a 18-0 technical fall at 125. He scored a takedown midway through the first, and rolled up 16 nearfall points to end the match in 2:58. "I kept my pace high," Lee said. "It is a scoring points mindset and that is all I can think about on the mat. It is not about how much time is left, maybe like it used to be. It is just about scoring points until the ref blows the whistle." Iowa won four matches to take a 14-3 lead into intermission, and came back from the break with three consecutive wins over top-five opponents. Alex Marinelli went on a second-period ride and scored four points in the final period to top No. 5 Isaiah White, 4-3, at 165. Michael Kemerer's takedown with 17 seconds on the clock was the difference in his 3-1 win over No. 6 Mikey Labriola at 174. And Abe Assad, in his Carver debut, scored takedowns in the second and third period to win by 6-4 decision over No. 5 Taylor Venz at 184. "My favorite moment from the whole match was end of the second period I got that takedown, and I had that huge mat return at the edge," Assad said. "I returned him and he just stuck to the mat and didn't move. I heard the crowd and it was awesome. There is nothing better than that. That's why you put in all those hours for in the practice room, for moments just like that." Iowa held a 13-6 advantage in takedowns and outscored the Huskers 57-27 in match points, but minus Lee's 18-0 win and Tony Cassioppi's 6-1 decision at 285, every match of the dual was decided by four points or fewer. "I think we got out strategized, we got out coached. They worked very hard and smart to keep it close, to beat us in the end," said Iowa head coach Tom Brands. "We've got to get better, too many close matches. (You) don't have to wait. Why didn't that happen in the first period? Make this fun and get a little momentum going." UP NEXT Iowa hosts No. 4 Ohio State on Friday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. (CT) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. NOTABLES Iowa wrestlers have a combined record of 37-3 in Big Ten duals, and a 62-8 record overall in six duals this season. Spencer Lee (17-0), Austin DeSanto (11-0), Alex Marinelli (21-0), Abe Assad (3-0), and Tony Cassioppi (4-0) are undefeated in their careers in Big Ten duals. Spencer Lee improved to 9-0 with nine bonus-point wins. He has won his last four matches by technical fall. Spencer Lee improved to 14-0 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Lugo improved to 13-0 and extended his career-high win streak to 13. Alex Marinelli improved to 13-0 overall and 14-0 all-time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. 19. STILLWATER -- The Oklahoma State Cowboys (7-1, 3-0 Big 12) picked up their first top-10 dual win of the season against the No. 10 Pittsburgh Panthers, 30-10, behind two big upsets and Nick Piccininni's 100th win Saturday evening inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. "It is special. Putting my name next to a bunch of guys before me who are legends of the sport is definitely something to be proud of," Piccininni said. "Getting 100 wins is a cool milestone to hit in the orange Oklahoma State singlet." Piccininni's 4:15 fall over Pitt's Louis Newell made him the 44th Cowboy to reach the 100-win milestone. The East Setauket, N.Y. native joined teammate Kaid Brock in the 100-win club, who was the most recent Cowboy to accomplish the feat. "He's one of those guys that you would coach forever," coach John Smith said. "It's not so much about being good but his attitude… the way he addresses practice… the way he comes in and he's a great student. I don't think in my five years coaching him I've ever had to question him about school or what's happening in school. He's just a consistent guy who has great discipline in his life. I think he's a guy who really wants his team to do well. It's his senior year. He knows our team has to fight for tough wins, and he does everything he can to start that off in the duals." Andrew Shomers earned the Cowboys' third bonus-point win of the evening when he pulled off the upset over No. 17 Gregg Harvey, 10-0. The senior outscored his opponents this weekend a combined, 21-3. In the following match, Anthony Montalvo improved his record to 13-4 on the season, taking out seventh-ranked Nino Bonaccorsi via decision, 6-4. "The bout at 174 was a really solid effort," coach John Smith said "I was surprised by that effort. Anthony at 184 was good. We saw when Montalvo went up 4-1, he did a really good job of keeping the pressure and then going back to his wrists and returning him to the mat." No. 3 Boo Lewallen notched a bonus point win in the 149-pound bout with a 19-4 tech fall over Luke Kemerer. The bonus-point victory for Lewallen was his seventh of the season as the undefeated Cowboy collected win No. 13. At 157 pounds, Wyatt Sheets held on to win a 9-8 decision against Taleb Rahmani in a wild back-and-forth match. Down a point to begin the third period, Sheets chose to start in the down position. After taking the lead with a quick reversal, Rahmani was awarded a stalling point, then escaped to take a 7-6 lead. In the final seconds, Sheets scored another takedown, and Rahmani escaped once more, but Sheets' 1:02 of riding time was the difference as the Cowboy hung on to win the decision. Also picking up decisions for the Cowboys in the dual win were Dusty Hone at 141 pounds, ninth-ranked Travis Wittlake at 165 pounds and No. 11 Dakota Geer at 197 pounds. The Pokes are back in action on the road next weekend as they head to Iowa for duals with Northern Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 25, and the Iowa State Cyclones the following day. 20. BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- No. 21 Campbell posted three pins and three tech falls on the way to a 42-3 win over The Citadel to begin Southern Conference action Saturday at the Pope Convocation Center. The Camels (4-2, 1-0 SoCon) picked up bonus points in six of the final seven bouts to top the visiting Bulldogs (2-3, 0-2 SoCon). After Doug Gudenburr's 5-4 decision for The Citadel to start the match, Campbell claimed the final nine weight classes. Campbell closed the match with pins in three of its final four bouts, starting with Korbin Meink's first period fall over Jordie White (2:15). No. 9 Noah Gonser followed with a fall over Nathan Orosco (2:43), and No. 9 Josh Heil's tech fall at 141 pounds gave Campbell a 36-3 lead heading into the final match, where Jason Kraisser closed out the win with a second period pin over Selwyn Porter (4:49). No. 14 Jere Heino also claimed a decision for the Camels at heavyweight. Next up, Campbell will welcome Oregon State and new SoCon program Presbyterian to Buies Creek on January 25. 21. BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- In a dual that featured a number of close matches that were decided in the third period or later, No. 12 Lehigh picked up its seventh straight dual win, topping Navy 23-9 Saturday inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The match was the 100th in what is Lehigh's second most-wrestled series, with this year's edition serving as the annual Sheridan Dual. The Mountain Hawks (8-3, 4-1 EIWA) won seven bouts, but picked up bonus points in just one, a technical fall by sophomore Josh Humphreys at 157. The victory was the 200th career dual win for Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro, who won 48 duals at Maryland and has now won 152 at Lehigh. "Most of the guys wrestled really well, but there where about three matches where I felt we were lazy on finishes and shut down," Santoro said. "We had been doing such a good job of continuing to get better, but today we didn't do some of those things right in key matches. The first four bouts of the afternoon were tight into the third period and beyond. Junior Brandon Paetzell kicked things off against Logan Treaster at 125. The bout went into the third period tied 1-1 before Paetzell went ahead on a second penalty point for stalling. Paetzell followed the stalling point with a takedown and rode out to win 5-1 with the riding time point. At 133, junior Nick Farro trailed Jacob Allen 3-2 early in the third period, but rallied behind a pair of third period takedowns to take a 6-5 lead. Allen picked up his second takedown of the match with five seconds remaining to get Navy on the board with a 7-6 decision. Senior Ryan Pomrinca and Navy's Cody Trybus engaged in the only overtime bout of the day. Pomrinca scored a takedown in the first period, while Trybus went ahead in the third with his lone takedown. A Pomrinca escape sent the bout to sudden victory tied 4-4. With Pomrinca being selective about his shots, he finally pulled the trigger late and secured the winning takedown with 12 seconds remaining to win 6-4 and put Lehigh back in front 6-3. "Ryan's really good," Santoro said. "He took two shots and scored two takedowns. He just needs to pull the trigger more so he can open matches up. You don't want to lose a match on a stall call in overtime. He ended up finding a way to win and that was big for him." Sophomore Dan Moran bumped up to 149 to face Wyatt Long. Moran gave up an early takedown but stayed on the attack through most of the match although he was unable to convert. Down 3-2 in the third, Moran finally secured a takedown and added a four-point near fall late to win 8-3. "Danny just wrestles hard for seven minutes," Santoro said. "He kept wearing him down and finally hit that shot and put him on his back to finish the match, which was awesome." Humphreys made it four straight wins for Lehigh and gave the Mountain Hawks a 14-3 lead at intermission with a 17-2 technical fall over Jack Stanton-Taddeo at 157. Humphreys scored three first period takedowns, added a takedown and four point near fall in the second, and closed out the match at 5:26 with another four point near fall. Navy (4-4, 1-1 EIWA) picked up its second win as eighth-ranked Tanner Skidgel beat freshman Brian Meyer 2-0 at 165. Skidgel rode out the second and escaped in the third for the only scoring of the bout. Senior Jordan Kutler bested Spencer Carey in a matchup of top 20 grapplers at 174, scoring takedowns in the first and third periods in a 5-1 decision. Sophomore Eli Grape made his dual debut at 184 in place of Chris Weiler and clinched the dual for the Mountain Hawks with a 9-5 decision over Hunter Johns. Grape scored takedowns in each of the first two periods plus a reversal and takedown in the third to put Lehigh up 20-6 with two bouts remaining. The Midshipmen picked up their third win at 197 as Jacob Koser won a 6-5 decision over junior Jake Jakobsen. Koser won a scramble for a takedown in the first period and used a cradle to turn Jakobsen for four points to lead 6-0 after one. Jakobsen rode out the second and turned Koser for four, but could not secure the necessary takedown in the third period. Junior Jordan Wood capped the dual with a 4-1 decision over John Birchmeier at 285. Lehigh has now won nine straight duals to take a 53-47 lead in the all-time series. "We have almost two weeks until our next dual," Santoro said. "We'll give the guys a few days off. We have to be able to fight through some of those mental mistakes we had today." The Mountain Hawks will be off next weekend and will return to action on Friday, January 31 when they battle No. 20 Army West Point in a match that will be held at West Orange High School in N.J. The 20th-ranked Black Knights moved their Senior Night dual to West Orange to honor late wrestler C.J. Morgan, an alumnus of West Orange High School, who passed away last summer due to injuries sustained from a military vehicle accident in the U.S. Military Academy's training area. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start. The 2019-20 Lehigh wrestling season is presented by the Historic Hotel Bethlehem. Results: 125 – Brandon Paetzell (Lehigh) dec.
