It's one of the nation's toughest HS tournaments and this year shouldn't be any different. Here's who is going to be there:

  • #1 Faith Christian (PA)
  • #3 Buchanan (CA)
  • #5 Delbarton (NJ)
  • #10 St. John Bosco (CA)
  • #11 Poway (CA)
  • #13 Stillwater (OK)
  • #15 Edmond North (OK)
  • #17 Clovis (CA)
  • #26 Clovis North (CA)
  • #27 Gilroy (CA)
  • #31 Bixby (OK)
  • #39 Pomona (CO)
  • #40 St. Peter’s Prep (NJ)

Should be some great matchups. I'm interested to see if Sammy Sanchez and Rocklin Zinkin hit at 120lbs. Zinkin just won Brecksville up at 126lbs by beating both #2 Grey Burnett and #9 Tommy Wurster. Sanchez is undefeated in high school and up in weight.

What matchups would you most like to see?

Curious who your pick is in Sanchez vs Zinkin. I think once the smaller guys hit that 120 range there is an adjustment period but Sanchez seems pretty darn special. That said Zinkin just beat Burnett who proved at Clarion he is college ready right now.

If they don't hit at Doc B, I don't think they hit in high school; Sanchez drops down to 113 for state and Zinkin goes 120. If they do wrestle, should be entertaining. Zinkin is super offensive, always looking to score from any position and an underrated scrambler. Sanchez's baseline defense is unreal, and everyone knows about his outside dump but nobody can stop it, and he pins a lot of people from it. I said last year that Sanchez has the potential to be CA's first ever undefeated, 4x state champ. I didn't think he'd be wrestling at 120lbs this year. All things considered, I think Zinkin wins a competitive, entertaining, tense 7-4 match with a lot of exchanges. I hope this match happens.

would love to see Jayden go 175 so we can see him vs Singer and Jeter.

That would be dope. The 175 bracket is already super stacked with like half of Flo's top 20 guys including the 1 and 2

I would be interested to know how much Zinkin has gone with Jax. He may be use to wrestling with that arm back, Brown implemented that a lot against Jax and while I do not think it works as well against him as Desanto because he has way more varied attacks it does seem to take away his righty single and initial over tie shrug.

Feel like its possible because Jayden probably does not get much out of crushing the 165 field. Could be the best thing for the team if he goes 165 though.

175 is stacked. I think Singer & Jeter ultimately make the finals, but look out for Mason Ontiveros and Isai Fernandez (transferred to Birmingham from SJB). Also Travis Grace (Gilroy), although he didn't look super awesome a couple weeks ago at Reno TOC. I don't think James goes up, but it would be cool!

Fernandez is super slick he is a fun guy to watch. Has ontiveros bounced back at all he was having a pretty bad fall by his standards.

I haven't been able to find any results for Sanchez so far this year. Is he injured? If so, is he expected to wrestle this weekend?

Per Flo he went 5-0 w/all pins and techs at the Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals & Boys National Recruiting Showcase on October 24.

This is not likely to happen as Delbarton also has a nationally ranked wrestler at 175 (Gabe Logan) and the #2 ranked wrestler nationally @ 189 (CJ Betz), so James will likely stay at 165. However, Gabe Logan was injured this past weekend (one of 4 Delbarton starters who was out for their Top 10 showdown win 41-26 on Saturday against Christian Brothers Academy) and Logan's status (and that of 3 other pretty good wrestlers for Delbarton) for the Doc B is uncertain, so you never know!

Also, Cornell comit Joseph Toscano was unable to score any team points past the quarters due to hurting his hamstring. It would widend the points gap by much more.

Wish Clovis and Buchanan would go to Ironman. But I know after that Nick Nevills situation there is 0% chance.

Anyway great job to "The Empire" Buchanan H.S

Excuse me it was Seth Nevills my bad.

Article from Flowrestling on 2017 Ironman:
Nevills Not Allowed To Compete
"Before the brackets were even completed, the tempers were flaring when Clovis (CA) coach Adam Tirappelle and his coaching staff found out that their heavyweight, Seth Nevills, who is ranked third in the country, would not be allowed to wrestle.
Nevills did not pass the skin check despite having the proper paperwork stating that his skin rash had been treated for longer than the required time and that he was cleared by the team's dermatologist. Tirappelle pleaded with the tournament directors, called the treating dermatologist, and did everything he could to get Nevills into the tournament, but he was denied."

After the way Ironman hosed him, Coach Tirapelli didn’t rant—he recalibrated. In a forum post, he made it clear he’d never return. Instead, he vowed to redirect his energy into something far more dangerous: turning the Doc B Wrestling Tournament into the toughest tournament in the nation. Nine years later, that promise isn’t rhetoric—it’s reality.
