Saturday is going to involve a LOT of sitting around in the first couple of rounds for Lee and Zain. As we speak, almost 6 hours into the event, they are just now wrestling the Round of 16 matches for some of the weights of Greco. And freestyle matches take longer than Greco.

Historically, freestyle matches take about 9 minutes per match over a day for these events. Using that as our marker, estimated local and US ET for their matches on Saturday are below. These are ESTIMATES. Obviously some mats go faster or slower than planned. And these projected times will eat into the scheduled women's 3rd place matches at 4:45pm, so they may have to make time adjustments based on how long things are going today with Greco.

Spencer Lee:

Weigh-in: 7:45 to 8:15am (12:45 to 1:15am ET)

R32: 10am (3am)

R16: 2pm (7am)

QF: 4:30pm (9:30am)

Semi-finals session starts at 6pm (11am)

Zain Retherford:

Weigh-in: 7:45 to 8:15am (12:45 to 1:15am ET)

R64: 11:20am (4:20am)

R32: 12:50pm (5:50am)

R16: 3:50pm (8:50am)

QF: 5:20pm (10:20pm)

Semi-finals session starts at 6pm (11am)

Yeah, Greco is going way over today. It doesn't matter much because they can head straight into the semi-finals at 11am ET since there's no program this afternoon.

The women's event tomorrow also won't matter because there are many less entrants

But I wonder if they'll make time adjustments for the freestyle day (maybe start weigh-ins earlier or push the evening program back). The freestyle quarterfinals won't be done until way past the scheduled women's bronze matches if they don't change something.

Your projected times appear to be off from the start.  Spencer won't be going at 10:00 local time.  The first round of women's repechage starts at 10:00.  If you line up the bout numbers from the brackets and project the mat numbers, you get the following:

Morning session (10:00 local time) - Women's repechage and Men's opening rounds.

  • My math has this session overlapping with the Women's Bronze session by about 30 minutes:
  • Mat 1: bout numbers 334-393
  • Mat 2: bout numbers 394-453
  • Mat 3: bout numbers 454-513

Women's Traditional Bronze Bouts (16:45 local time):

  • Split bouts across two mats: bout numbers 514-525

Men's Semi-Finals (18:00 local time):

  • Split bouts across two mats:  bout numbers 526-537

Women's True Bronze & Olympic Bid (20:30 local time):

  • Assume single mat:  bout numbers 538-543

You're right. I had the men's matches starting right at 10am local time when actually it was women's repechage first round matches first. Everything has been running about 30-40 minutes later than my estimates in the initial post.
