is it possible(yes)? is it a good idea for him? is it a good precedent for the program? if they cut him down and then ditch him when he can't perform is that gonna look bad for recruiting? Whats the actual question.

I don't see him being capable at 157, and he's definitely not winning 165. Probably not beating Haines at 174 either, so my question was does he stay or go.

Why did Haines not want a RS?

I'm not minimizing elites down to being random.  I'm saying every now and then (randomly) we will have an elite HS kid not go to college.  We will still have "elite" NCAA wrestlers.

NCAA didn't miss a beat when Cejudo, Pico skipped college.  College wrestling will be just fine.  I don't think Iowa or PSU will close up shop because a Bo Basset type kid opts to go the international route right out of HS

No one is saying College Wrestling won't be fine. It obviously will. I'll still support it, and still continue going to each Championship.

However, I do wish we'd dominate at the International level better. I look at Lee, and think what could've been. He got a Silver in his first International big-level tourney, at age 25 to a Veteran-level Beast, at 28. He was the can't miss future of American Wrestling, and is just now at the Senior level shooting his shot.

I just want to see our elite be elite longer.

  3. Zain was a World Champion at their age as well. And he became an all timer in college. Granted, he did win a World Title, but in a non-Olympic weight. He didn't do well at all in his Oly debut.

I said this about the two because it doesn't always translate over. I'd rather see us dominant Internationally than seeing some Freshman win a college Title again.

First I didn't notice anymore palpable excitement or feel watching it from regular worlds. I was told the Olympics was different ? I couldn't tell. If anything it looked more watered down and worse then worlds without Russia.

Second -  0 golds is not an abject failure due to simply no golds. (Without Russia). It's not fair to criticize coaches or competitors based solely on wins and losses as it is the manner in which they win or lose. Example Spencer Lee and brands. That's a GREAT effort in a loss and silver medal. Another example is Serbia basketball vs USA.

It is an abject failure tho in the case of mason parris. In the case of Aaron brooks. And Kyle dake tho takatani may have just been on a heater. When you get praised beyond belief for winning you DESERVE the likewise when you don't win. Insert cael Sanderson. Insert Bill zadick. Insert USA training system.

When we praise the rtc system based on results it must be re examined and thought if this is the best method when results turn to losses instead of wins (without Russia).

3rd - imagine if Spencer Lee went full throttle into freestyle after winning junior worlds instead of going to folk ? How many senior worlds would he have ?...Gilman looked like the little engine that could. Played above his talent. Lee looks like a 5 star.

4th thinking USA could get a medal at every weight and multiple golds was completely over the top. Especially for guys like brooks who deserved to lose to Valencia and hasnt dominated opponents internationally. And a guy like parris who is not near as consistent as gwiz was. The best years have been when we have guarded optimism with a chip on the shoulder and something to prove to the world. The lack of Russia and recent success may have taken it away. Came in on a high horse.

5th greco gets a bad wrap. Watching some of those middleweights was sheer athletic excellence on display. The Bulgarian who won gold in greco has insane hips. Way more action then I've ever seen in greco. Such a shame USA sucks in this sport. That Bulgarian may be one of the best pfp wrestlers overall basing this on one match and no other background info.

6th We know Snyder isn't winning gold. Book it. He's far more average then elite. Bad move turning on his boy dlagnov.

7th cael is a GREAT folk coach. Free - overrated.

The lack of tactical awareness and training displayed by brooks and cael after it happened to him with Gilman will be one for the record books and should be one of the first things brought up when discussing cael Sanderson for the eternity of time. It's on his record.

No idea what zadick does. The system feels broken.

Everyone belittled this post, but it aged like a fine wine. Sadly, it was spot on.

Outside of 57 and possibly 86, I hope we get new reps everywhere.

Never in my wildest dreams would I thought that I would be praising our Women over our Men.

  5. The USA needs to back off Folk and get our big guys going straight to Free. Look at our Women.  Elor is 20.

All of us Americans had the biggest pair of Red, White, and Blue goggles on going into these Olympics for our Men. We have seen our true colors this year.  We are officially behind 3 countries at least.

  6. That much was almost bs how they were doing everything to gift Yaz. I hate it he got hurt, but at what point do you credit the other guy? And the Bulgarian should've attacked the right arm. I'm sorry, this is for Gold. You do what it takes, legally, to win. Glad he did win.

I’m sure it’s minority opinion, but I think there’s a good case to make for Lopez over Phelps as the GOAT of the Olympic Games. Phelps overall medal count is unbelievable, but he is also in the only sport that provides that number of opportunities. To put it simply, Phelps was the best swimmer at 4 Olympics, and Lopez was the best wrestler at 5 Olympics. It may be hard to validate if Lopez truly was the best wrestler at each of those Olympics because there are two “events” in the sport of wrestling - freestyle and Greco. But I would think you could argue that he was the “best” overall at each of those games. He’s in the heaviest weight class and I’ve heard it said that a Greco wrestler would do better in freestyle than a freestyle wrestler would in Greco (not sure if that can be verified though). Was Phelps the best individual swimmer at each of his Games? I’d assume so, but maybe someone that follows swimming like WKN can verify?

I disagree with this completely. Lopez winning Gold made him the best Wrestler in his weight, maybe not the best Wrestler overall even. No one on this board has ever stated he's the current P4P guy. Career though? Wow, obviously up there.

But Phelps winning 6 Gold and 2 Bronze in 2004 showcased him as one of the best Olympians ever. His dominance in all facets is equal to a Wrestler competing in FS and GR. Is that against the rules?

And then 2008 happened.... that is easily one of the highest achievements in Modern Sports History. He is all alone on a mountain with that record; 8 Golds and zero losses.

I love Wrestling like all of us do obviously. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. 23 Gold Medals my friend. 23....

  8. I guess it's my turn to play Devil's advocate.

Personally, I don't see him as an ideal coach. His positioning was sound, and his defense was corollary to his superior athleticism. But what does he bring to the table from a technique standpoint? And true defensive skill? What was his go-to move? His guarantee shot setup? No ankle picks, Hi-C's, or blasts. He held center well, but that was more to his truly superior athleticism. FWIW, I hope he crushes it. After meeting him once, I knew I had just met an exceptional human being. So, theres, obviously no character flaws.

Got news for you. Yazdani is stronger than Aaron Brooks. The question is endurance. I guarantee you that Yazdani will bull Brooks around the mat in the first minute or two.

I am not sure if I agree with this.

  10. I'm intrigued of the PSU logjam.

What if Cartet doesn't go 197? Does their 157 Champ, Haines, take his shirt? And if so, who goes there? What about Facundo?

    Lots of questions.

I am not disagreeing at all, what I am saying is that Snyder lost his senior season and had many competitive matches.  Steveson didn't have any competitive matches his senior year or his junior year.  He did his soph season, but so did Snyder.

Steveson had a good percentage higher bonus rate than Snyder as well.

Snyder was also an undersized 97kg Freestyle Wrestler giving up a loooot of weight. His loss to Coon was proof showing that he could be out-horsed if the man was big enough.

Man, I wish we could've seen Steveson again in College or Freestyle.

Snyder most definitely had that better finals matches opponents. His match vs Gwiz is an all timer.

If Gwiz would've won, he may be getting the recognition.

    That was a great match.

And by no means am I saying Gable isn't worthy, but it isn't clear as day IMO. Granted, he Majored a future Hodge like it was nothing. That, in itself, is extremely impressive. But, he is a 2xer. There are 3xers. Snyder is who I was thinking about in consideration.
