  1. For those that paid attention to the US Open, I am now even more confident in the VT upcoming lineup. Ryan Burton showed he is a true threat at potentially 174, Bo Bassett very well may win 4 straight titles, dude is an absolute dawg and beat the defending 149 champ (Valencia). Mullen looked good at the Open, hoping he can finally make an all American jump this year, Sonny seems like sorta a loose cannon still, might AA, might not qualify, he just can’t stay consistent.
  2. “Into the group with Penn state” is crazy. Nobody is in ther league. Penn state is still solidly on top, the goal is to get into the group right behind Penn state of Ohio State, OK State, and Nebraska
  3. I think to say 7-8 AA as an absolute best case is fair but realistically (aside from unknown transfers rn) I think our only locked AA guys next year are Seidel, Bo, Caleb. I’m not sure what to think of Eddie, he has shown he can hang with the best but I just don’t see the offense from him that I want. This year could very well happen again for him. Sonny SHOULD be an AA but he has never seemed to be able to stay consistent, looks great for a stretch then drops some bad ones. depending on how weights works out, who redshirts, moves weights, etc. I think it’s realistic to say Eddie V, Seidel, Bo, Caleb, Gaj, Sergio, and Sonny all have realistic AA potential. Nininger and Burton I think could have a shot too. Of that group it’s just going to depend who ends up with a starting spot. Would love to pick up 1 or 2 heavier end guys from the portal to boost our heavy weights. as of right now I would say I’m expecting 5 AA. Less I would be a bit disappointed. Anything more and I would be very happy. If tech could have 8 guys AA I think that would be absolutely incredible. To be fair the only guys I truly just don’t think have AA potential in them are Jimmy Mullen and Bullock. Love those guys but I just don’t see it from them.
  4. I think you and him have different definitions of “contender.” Seidel is by no means a NC favorite but I would 100% call him a contender, he placed 3rd this year and there are only maybe 4 guys in his class that he can’t at least major. To call him a contender is different from saying he actually has a chance to win it (I don’t see him beating Jax) but I could see him making finals. i agree Bo Bassett hasn’t wrestled a match in college yet but look at the guys he has beat already, he is a contender. Caleb Henson was #1 in his class until announcing his redshirt, how do you not say the #1 guy is the favorite to win a title?
  5. Going to be interesting to see how things hash out if true. Caleb sounds like he is set being 149. If Seidel can’t make 133 that mean we will have Seidel and Bassett at 141 for next year. Do we really redshirt one of them? Are either of them okay redshirting? Is it possible one of them jumps all the way to 157? Things would seem so simple if Caleb would just move to 157…
  6. From what Tony Robie has said himself, Aaron Seidel is already having a real hard cut to make 133 and isn’t sure if he is going to be able to stay 133 next year. Tony would like Caleb to go 157 but won’t make him do anything he doesn’t want to. Caleb has said multiple times he is coming back at 149. Tony has also said he doesn’t think Melvin next year is a possibility (simply doesn’t have the credits to graduate early and also thinks his parents are wanting him to have 1 more year in high school). Unfortunately we are just gonna have to sit and wait till fall to see what the lineup looks like
  7. Do you happen to know when entry to the portal close for wrestling? I know players will have basically till fall enrollment to transfer one they are in but I can’t seem to find the portal deadline for wrestling?
  8. Any idea is Massoma Endene has any connection to VT? I have no insider information, just speaking as a fan I would love to see Robie go after him to help boost the top end of our lineup. As far as Bullock, I sat with his parents at the UNC dual and, at that time, they said he would be back at tech again next season. I would love to see Joey Blaze or Jaxon join the lineup but aside from the connection for both I’m not to sure either of them have any plans to transfer.
