As stated on this forum many times, there's a lot of vagueness surrounding what's a takedown/ reaction time. It can also be subjective to the individual making the call. It seems coaches challenges at best are a 50/50 proposition. Look at the first two matches last night that went OT. Were those takedowns? I know what I thought but had no idea what the officials would rule. The Duke match takedown or not ( of course that relative to how one defines reaction time). I say no but let the position play out. They bailed Robideau out by stopping the match. In todays world of ambiguity these calls are almost always going to be challenged. You have 2 coaches, 2 officials and 1 replay official. They may all have different opinions . The head official should make the call but hold the points until the position has worked itself out beyond any reasonable uncertainty. If needed at that point conference with the other official and make the call.
The reviews take way too long. They are disruptive to the participants and annoying to the audience. Ultimately the decision are made subjectively by an individual . That being the case why are the 2 officials on the mat not qualified to make the call? I know most of this stated here pertains to takedowns but the same logic should apply to other situations.
