Yes. The Hardy situation was… an odd one.

really odd. So the guy wrestled for you guys? (Gophers) and then finished career at OKIE STATE? He also coached Conrad the OU 125

There’s probably truth to that as well. I’m guessing there’s a lot of contributing factors to a big decision like that one. I don’t remember a double forfeit but it wouldn’t surprise me. I’d be surprised if he was told no to bringing in freestyle guys over the summer tho? Eggum and Steiner are pretty open to bringing in guys to train with the GWC.

I am too lazy to look it up, but that is what I was told.  I cannot remember the name of one of the guys he wanted to come in, but I think one of the coaches he wanted to bring in was John Hardy, his high school coach.

Jamison and Spratley redshirted because they were not better than the person ahead of them. They transferred because when they were done redshirting, they still were not guaranteed their spots (especially Jamison, as shown by NCAA’s). What should have been done differently there?

I do not understand the panic against redshirting recruits. The overwhelming majority of transfers are grad transfers, the result of coaching changes, or guys in year 2 or 3 that can’t crack their lineup. Very few are legitimately being poached like Aaron Nagao. I think it is an overblown sentiment, and that’s coming from someone who roots for a team that has been more negatively impacted by the portal than any.

I heard different on Spratley. I heard (1) he felt he could beat McKee, and wanted to show that at an open tourney they were both in the finals and troy found out that day it would be a double forfeit. (2) I heard Spratley wanted more Freestyle in the summer and had asked if they could bring a couple of guys in to help and they were told no.

So the guy that qualified this year at 165 was not there this year?  Another 25 win guy the next weight down this year in Byers was also not there this yead?

Also the qualifiers from the year prior at 149 and 165 while he was on redshirt weren't there when he was there on redshirt?

Your statement was wrong and it is okay to be wrong - you just need to own it and move on.

My man, you have no idea what you are talking about.  "the guy" at 165 is Will Miller. Do you want to say Will Miller is a top tier wrestler? So, you are telling me that you believe a person can get better from having partners the years before? Sure, when he was working out with Jon Jon and Ian Miller, he was absolutely getting better, but they are gone. There is a reason you can look at a top program, name one...and there are backups that push the starters and that is how they get better. NOBODY pushed Askey, do you understand that? There is a reason that Caleb Smith AA this year wrestling for Nebraska. Was that luck? The reality of that, he went to a room, where there were wrestlers that pushed him and he got better.  Jon Jon Millner worked out with Ian Miller daily, Jon Jon will tell you, working out with a multi-time AA that could still wrestle, made him better.

Askey had nobody to push him?  Millner, Miller, and Formato just didn't ever exist, then?

NONE of those guys were there last year, Askey was Miller's guy

Admittedly, I didn’t know a thing about Askey prior to him entering the portal and when I did a little more digging my impression aligned with yours. He didn’t have any great wins prior to NCAA’s last year and some rougher losses. He will certainly have a tougher schedule with Minnesota.

He is coming in to a potentially favorable position at least in the big ten with guys like Lewan, Robb, Franek, Brayton graduating. 157 is projecting to be a comparatively weak weight in the conference next year. Wrestlestat currently has Askey rated 11th overall and 3rd in the big ten, behind Antrell Taylor and ahead of Saldate.

I could see him exceeding expectations at Minnesota for his last year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he flopped either. I’m happy to have him regardless, because we had a massive hole there for one year while a recruit redshirts.

Everyone can say what they want about Askey, I can tell you he did A LOT with LESS. He literally had nobody to push him after Coach Miller left the program. The kid works his A$$ off, and I will bet he has a great year for the Gophers.

Different that Oakley, Oakley had Patterson kicking the hell out of him, and Caleb Smith prior. BUT, look what Smith did in a Nebby room...

"Smear the kid"? If I was "smearing" a kid I'd be here attacking his moral character or ethics, not complaining about a guy being overly concerned about his social media image.

the kid literally told OU thank you.

Wow, Jared Hill has some balls posting something like that. He should've slunk away after how poorly he wrestled this year.

what part of this is balls? Going into the transfer portal? Hill walked on at OU and beat out a highly recruited Wiley. So tell me what your expectations are for a walk on that took the starting position at OU? What if he earned a little bit of money and Kish took it away, what would you do?

You're giving Askey the benefit of the doubt from one tournament that he wrestled out of his mind at.

He was also Techfellered twice by Shapiro, lost to Ed Scott twice comfortably, and he also lost to Will Lewan in regulation (W?T?F?!).

I don't see Askey beating Mauller.  I don't see him beating Brady, either.

wrestled out of his mind? Askey has been solid for the last 2 years. Like I said, lets see what he can do in a room full of hammers that push him every day. When Ian Miller left, he didn't have anyone to push him in that room at APP ST. Oakley, had a hammer that absolutely made him better. W/O Jared Patterson, you never hear the name Oakley, IMO.

    I want Paddy at 165lbs.

he has underperformed up to now, so who knows. Askey is tough, he might be really good if he gets in a good room. Caleb Smith AA after leaving APP ST

    125 - Spratley

    133 - C. Hughes

    141 - Carter young/Jamison

    149 - Jordan Williams

    157 - Teague Travis

    165 - Hamiti

    174 - Thomspon

    184 - Plott

197 - Carroll (rumor has it hes trying to get down)

    285- Cody Merill

I think this team has 10 guys that could AA if it fits out this way obviously hughes,Merill,Carroll are relative unknown's but based on their HS pedigree I think they will be in that conversation/

I bet we see young in the portal soon.

    Missouri

125- Noah Surtin, Senior (unlike this year they will have kids that can spell him from time to time so he is not as beat up come nationals)
133- Kade Moore, Sophomore (with a possibility of True Freshman Gage Walker or Jake Crapps possibly pushing him for the spot)
    141- Josh Edmond, Junior
149- Logan Gioffre, Sr., / Nathan Pulliam, Jr., /Zeke Seltzer, So. - I can see Seltzer being the starter here after gettin a summer of putting on some good weight.
157- J. Conway, So.,/Cameron Steed, So., /Logan Gioffre, Sr.,  - This would be Steed's but I heard he now weighs in the 180s. Gioffre wrestled 157 last year so it wouldn't surprise me.
165 - Cameron Steed, So.or Keegan O'Toole Sr., - I think it is going to be Steed.
174- O'Toole Sr.,  (or possibly Whiting if Keegan goes back to 165 or even Steed)
184- Hawks, Jr. /Whiting, So.  - It will be a battle again.
197- Rocky Elam, Sr. - With Sinclair redshirting. I don't think Rocky has the frame to carry the weight like his brother. Plus it took Zach 2+ years to become a good sized 285 weight wise. Don't think they can do it 6 months.
285- Seth Nitzel, Jr.  or Portal. Heard that Boersma was hurt this year and maybe done (which sucks). Just keeping it warm until Stillwell gets here.

I can confirm, Steed is in the 180's

So from what I can gather here, Anthony has been living with Bunji Fretwell in Florida and Anthony was there to help the local wrestling team. Anthony got mad at him and robbed him the fled Florida.

Anthony was there to coach Anthony's son, Christian. MANY people told Bunji not to play w/fire and bring him in.

My question, the rumor was the new AD so no on AJ, what happened to Anthony? Was he told he could not come there too?

So you didn't know how to respond to ":solid" so you changed the word to "strong"?  If you move the goalpost just a little further maybe your next response will be "invincible"

3 guys from the same conference AA in the same weight isn't pretty strong...... okay.

I was just about to say the same thing? lol....tough crowd on the definition of "strong" "solid"

  17. I just got a call and a text, this rumor is true.  How funny is that? I just told everyone that he is F'g nuts and has major issues. EVERYONE was warning Bunji not to bring him in, it would burn him. Bunji is known to party and get mouthy, but damn man....This is sad, and will more than likely start the downward slide for Anthony where he will eventually end up in prison.
