D2 Clarion in 1973 had 3 D1 champs in Rohn, Schalles and Simpson. I believe Clarion would have had a team trophy but division 2 was not able to score in division 1.

That appears to be the case. Conversely, I saw it podcast where Mitchell Mesenbrink was being interviewed, it was about NIL, but he said it has been drilled into him and every other wrestler in the program that they follow the letter of the law. It's a large part of the culture.
