Hopefully ASU can pick up Cardenas and then maybe add another heavy hitter at any weight above 157. If they landed somebody like Hamiti that would be a big pickup. They might have enough to challenge for the top next year if they can do that. Lower weights are going to be a mess. Several guys who could be starting might be on the bench.

They should be fine at 165 with Ruiz. I was one of the top 10 recruits last year and in one of his few dual appearances he beat the defending Pac 12 champion Oloquin from Oregon St. His other dual appearance was verus Carr, with the exprected result of a true freshman facing a NCAA champ.

Nothing against Maximo Renteria, he’s a D1 wrestler which is more than the overwhelming majority of wrestlers can say.  But he has a career record against D1 opponents of 9-19.

Has anyone had a worse in season loss during the year they won a national title (not counting injury defaults)?

Just goes to show that anything can happen during the season and you can still win a national title.  Oh and 125 gonna 125

I watched Figueroa lose in the dual versus Stanford. At that point he'd lost of his last 4, including a match to the Oregon St backup. His season record was 5-5. He went 10-0 the remainder of the year, with pretty much every match being against a top notch opponent.  I'm not sure what was going on with him, be it mental or slow recovery from his injuries, but kudos for turning it around.

    Arizona State (My ideal world)

    125: Figueroa

    133: Chlebove

    141: Parco

    149: Kaleb Larkin

    157: Teemer

    165: Ruiz

    174: McLane

    184: Valencia

    197: Cardenas (Highly speculated)

    285: Schultz

Pretty sure McLane's done. They introduced him at senior night. Do you think Vasquez is going somewhere? He'll be back at 141. No way Parco is gonna drop a weight after being an AA 4 years at 149. Not so sure Larkin can beat anyone out in the 149 class. Freestyle success doesn't always mean folkstyle success. In addition to Parco, rumor has it he's  had trouble beating Ramos, you also have Ysaquirre. Valencia didn't fare to well this year when he tried to jump to 184. Lost the wrestle off to Negron who jumped over him from 165 to 184 and had a solid year. I think he stays right where he's at, 174.

Perhaps a best version would be "Imar kicked Nolf's teeth in 4 straight years after taking a lone fluke loss" but that probably doesn't play well 'round these parts this week of the year.

Funny definition of "kicking someone's teeth in". Records show Imar wrestled Nolf in the 2 years prior to losing to Joseph two straight years in the finals. First time was a fall, then the last two matches were.

    6-5

    3-3 (TB 2)

Little Rock with at least two champs. What a great job those coaches have done!

The other side of the coin is losing 2 starters, one ranked,  two weeks before conference, and having a truck fall on your former all-american. Those are the breaks sometimes.

True. OSU doesn't seem to be developing guys they way I thought they would. Mendez, their best wrestling came over with Pendleton from ASU. The kid that that care fell on was a transfer as well. Olguin was PAC 12 champ last year and got beat soundly by ASU's true freshman who's redshirting this year. I think he had some other poor losses. Kaylor has regressed, just stalls now. OSU fans on their bulletin board are getting frustrated. They won the PAC last year, but ASU was in the same boat. Had Teamer wrestled last year and Vasquez been available for the PAC 12 tournament. That would have been 2 more champs for the Devils and most likely would have finished first rather than 4th. None of the teams out west have the depth of the midwestern squads to overcome the loss of a starter.

This is inexcusable.  How pathetic.  And the goddamn music playing during the matches, no scores displayed, and I've still only got one mat.

I've got both. If the links in the PAC 12 site dont work, try going to the Oregon St website and the links are in their schedule.

Lack of scoring sucks. I'm following along with scoring on trackwrestling but they aren't in sync.

Mexican wrestling is kicking America's butt.  Never thought I would see or say that.

And it's emigration not immigration problems.  The Brawn Drain (as opposed to the so-called Brain Drain).Migration to Advanced Economies Can Raise Growth

So winning 1 head to head match is kicking butt? Qualifying 2 of 6 weights versus 5 of 6 is kicking butt?

Schultz may be the single most boring wrestler to watch in the history of D1 wrestling. I love the Sun Devils but my god.

Remember he was groomed for a year by the master, Tanner Hall!

Is Parco really coming back ? It’ll be his 6th year and 5th ncaa tournament next season , he started at fresno and it’s going on 4 years that they haven’t existed . He has to be getting pretty old

One red shirt and one Covid year. 6 seems to be the new norm for college wrestlers. At Iowa or Michigan he'd probably be considered an undercalssman :). Looks like he's a two time scholar all american so he may be working the system to get as much education as he can as well.

  10. Reason he wrestled in the two duals is because Parco was hurt. I would imagine since he qualified for the Olympic Trials he's focused on freestyle.

Yasguire is hurt and had shoulder surgery.

Hopefully someone grows next year and moves to 157. Parco will still be around and you'll have the three of them, plus Ramos (who I've heard Larkin has a hard time beating) and the number 1 hs recruit at 145. I'm assuming Teamer is done after this year, but with all his injuries over the years I would imagine he could petition for another year of eligibility.
