ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell won the final seven matches to run past Drexel 35-6 in the regional round of the 2015 NWCA Cliff Keen National Duals on Sunday afternoon at Newman Arena. With the win, the Big Red improved to 15-1 in duals and will advance to Iowa City for next weekend's eight-team finals. Junior Nahshon Garrett (125) and sophomore Dylan Palacio (165) each won by fall and six of the eight wins came by way of bonus points. Drexel briefly tied the match at 6-6 after wins at 133 and 141, but the Big Red sailed the rest of the way. Garrett set the tone early, going right at Zack Fuentes in the 125-pound match and building 12-1 first period lead before pinning him to give Cornell a 6-0 lead and the sophomore his 100th victory in a Cornell singlet. Garrett became the 22nd Cornellian to win 100 career matches. Despite close losses at the next two weights allowing the Dragons to momentarily tie the team score, Villalonga used a quick second period takedown and three nearfall points to turn a two-point nailbiter into an eventual major decision, falling just a point shy of a tech fall with his 14-0 win over Matthew Climato at 149. Brian Realbuto also won a comfortable major decision victory with his 10-1 contest at 157 over Noel Blanco. At 165, Dylan Palacio toyed with Nick Elmer, taking him down five times in the first 90 seconds before tilting him to his back for the fall with 49 seconds left in the period. Though the win didn't technically clinch the dual, it all but put the result out of reach for Drexel. Duke Pickett earned a decisive 5-1 win at 174 in typical Pickett style over Stephen Loiseau, followed by a dominant Gabe Dean performance in a 23-8 technical fall victory over Alex DeCiantis that featured nine takedowns for the top-ranked 184-pounder. His win assured the Big Red of a trip to next weekend's quarterfinals against an opponent to be announced. Jace Bennett and Jacob Aiken-Phillips each gained points thanks to accumulated riding time, Bennett claiming the major with a 13-5 victory over Brandon Litten, and Aiken-Phillips taking the win over Joey Goodhart at heavweight thanks to his riding bonus.# Results: 125: #3 Nahshon Garrett (C) won by fall over Zack Fuentes (D), 2:54 133: Kevin Devoy Jr. (D) won by decision over #15 Mark Grey (C), 3-2 141: David Pearce (D) won by decision over Logan David (C), 3-0 149: #7 Chris Villalonga (C) won by major decision over Matthew Cimato (D), 14-0 157: #6 Brian Realbuto (C) won by major decision over Noel Blanco (D), 10-1 165: #11 Dylan Palacio (C) won by fall over Nick Elmer (D), 2:11 174: #19 Duke Pickett (C) won by decision over Stephen Loiseau (D), 5-1 184: #1 Gabe Dean (C) won by technical fall over Alex DeCiantis (D), 23-8 197: #10 Jace Bennett (C) won by major decision over Brandon Litten (D), 13-5 285: Jacob Aiken-Phillips (C) won by decision over Joey Goodhart (D), 7-6

STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State wrestler Austin Marsden defeated Jon Gingrich in overtime of the heavyweight bout to clinch a 21-18 win for the Cowboys over No. 5 Penn State. With the dual tied, 18-18, Marsden took on Gingrich in front of 6,491 rowdy fans in the final bout of the day. After regulation, the bout was deadlocked, 2-2. Marsden reversed Gingrich in the first tiebreaker period to put himself ahead, 4-2. The Cowboy carefully maintained his lead in the second tiebreaker period, walking away with a 4-3 victory. "[Winning] was a great feeling and having the stage really amped up the whole atmosphere along with having a crowd there backing us up,” Marsden said. “I remember going there last year against Penn State they had a huge crowd. Having them come here and feel our crowd was even better." The All-American capped off an outstanding performance from the Cowboy wrestling squad, which overcame two pins to pull off the win. Sophomore Anthony Collica picked up a big win at 157 pounds, cutting Penn State’s six-point lead to just one with a 24-9 technical fall over No. 8 Dylan Alton. Collica trailed, 2-1, after the first period, but went on to score eight takedowns and a two-point near fall in the final two periods. He was awarded a point for riding time at the end of the match to secure the tech fall. "I was just thinking, 'I have to do a bigger job than what I was supposed to do,'” Collica said. “I just went out there and wrestled tough. I knew that guy gets tired usually, and I knew I had to wrestle hard the whole time and I'd be alright." National champion and top-ranked Alex Dieringer followed up with more bonus points to push the Cowboys ahead, tallying a 14-4 major decision over No. 18 Garrett Hammond. His victory came with four takedowns and two sets of near fall points. The Cowboy extends his win streak to 40, which dates back to last season. Dieringer has also picked up nine consecutive wins with bonus points attached. Giving OSU a solid start at 125 pounds was ninth-ranked Eddie Klimara, who met up with No. 8 Jordan Conaway. The Cowboy junior earned two quick takedowns in the first period and pulled away with a three-point near fall in the final period to record an 8-7 upset win. "[Starting at 125 pounds] gets that momentum going,” Klimara said. “It gets everybody fired up for the dual. Going out there and beating a high-ranked kid started us off well." At 141 pounds, Dean Heil notched a close win, taking his bout with Kade Moss into overtime. No points were scored in sudden victory, but similar to Marsden’s match, Heil earned a reversal in the first tiebreaker period. He later took down the Nittany Lion in the second tiebreaker period to win, 8-5. Nolan Boyd tallied an important and methodical win at 184 pounds, defeating No. 19 Matt McCutcheon, 4-0. It was his fourth win over a ranked opponent this season. The Pokes dropped two close matches at 174 and 197 pounds as Kyle Crutchmer and Luke Bean fell to top-five opponents in No. 2 Matt Brown and No. 4 Morgan McIntosh, respectively. No. 11 Crutchmer forced his match against Brown into overtime with a huge buzzer-beater takedown to end regulation. The two were involved in a wild scramble in sudden victory, but it was Brown who was awarded the takedown. "You have to look at [the team] and see what you have,” coach John Smith said. “For what we have, we're wrestling above what we are capable of, and that is what you like to see. We have guys who did some things tonight that I wasn't sure could do it, but they did it. Those are the things you like to see. You like to see your team above what they are capable of wrestling. A lot of times it ends up in a good place at the end." The Cowboys (10-3, 3-0 Big 12) travel to North Carolina next weekend to take on North Carolina and NC State in a doubleheader on Feb. 22. After No. 5 Scott Schiller won Sunday’s opening match for the Gophers in front of his hometown crowd in Fargo, No. 4 Minnesota took six of the next seven bouts against No. 23 North Dakota State to win the dual, 26-9. The match was an opening round regional contest in the NWCA National Duals. With its victory, Minnesota advances to the quarterfinals next weekend in Iowa City. For Schiller, who wrestled for West Fargo High School before coming to Minnesota, Sunday wasn’t his first time competing in his hometown as a Gopher, but it was his first time wrestling in a dual in Fargo, meaning each of the 1,465 spectators who packed the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse were watching him. And Schiller delivered, piling up third period points to earn a 12-3 major decision over Tommy Petersen. Schiller was one of three Gophers to score bonus points in his match on Sunday. At 157, No. 1 Dylan Ness remained undefeated after promptly putting Mitchell Friedman on his back and then working to score the fall at 1:11 of the first period. It’s the second straight pin for Ness, who has wrestled a total of 2:28 in his last two matches. With 12 pins on the season, Ness has matched his previous career high and, with 37 for his career, he’s now tied with Mike Thorn for ninth on the Gophers’ career falls list. No. 17 Nick Wanzek also scored bonus points for the Gophers at 165, sealing an 11-3 major decision over Steven Keogh with a third period takedown. Sunday was the second consecutive dual in which Wanzek has earned bonus points for Minnesota. In addition to those highlights, Sunday also was a memorable day for Ethan Lizak. The true freshman 125-pounder made his dual debut just a few weeks ago and found himself facing a fourth ranked opponent in his first five contests when he took on No. 13 Josh Rodriguez. With an escape in the second period and a ride out in the third to score the riding time point, Lizak prevailed, 2-1, securing his first career win against a ranked opponent. Following Schiller’s victory at 197 to kick off the dual, No. 13 Michael Kroells fell to No. 15 Evan Knutson, 4-3, after Knutson escaped Kroells just before the third period buzzer for the winning point. It was Kroells’ first loss to Knutson in four career matches. Lizak followed with his victory at 125 before the Dardanes brothers added a pair of convincing decisions for the Gophers. First, at 133, No. 1 Chris Dardanes improved to 19-0 by defeating Kyle Gliva, 11-6. Then, at 141, No. 4 Nick Dardanes beat Mitch Bengtson for the third time this season, following up a pair of narrow victories earlier in the year with a decisive 10-4 win on Sunday. At that point, halfway through the dual, the Gophers led 13-3. At 149, Jake Short took on Clay Ream, capturing a 10-5 decision. Ness followed with his pin at 157, then Wanzek added his major decision at 165 to put the Gophers ahead 26-3. North Dakota State took the final two matches of the dual, first at 174, where Kurtis Julson defeated Jordon Rothers, 5-2, in Rothers’ first career dual match. The dual concluded with No. 9 Hayden Zillmer securing a last-second takedown on No. 13 Brett Pfarr to win, 6-5. While the win means Minnesota knows it will be in Iowa City for the next round of the NWCA National Duals next weekend, the Gophers do not yet know who their opponent will be when they get to Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Early this coming week, the NWCA will announce the brackets for next weekend. Regardless of the opponent, Minnesota will hit the mat on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois wrestling team, the fifth-ranked team in W.I.N. Magazine's Tournament Power Index, hosted Kent State in the regional round of the NWCA National Duals on Sunday. The Illini dominated from the first match to the last, holding the Golden Flashes scoreless in a 38-0 drumming. "I thought this afternoon we were a little boring in a couple of different weights because we were too busy trying to win rather than wrestling to our potential, but we did have a couple of really good wins today," said head coach Jim Heffernan. No. 1 Jesse Delgado won Illinois' first match of the dual, grabbing a 3-0 win over Del Vinas at 125 pounds. No. 7 Zane Richards followed up Delgado's win with a dominating performance at 133 pounds. Richards earned a technical fall win over Kyle Lukowich, 23-7, snapping a two-match losing streak. No. 13 Steven Rodrigues continued Illinois' winning ways with a 6-4 victory over Tyler Small at 141 pounds. Kyle Langenderfer also came away with a narrow win, beating Kyle Bauer, 4-3, at 149 pounds. The 157-pound matchup between No. 2 Isaiah Martinez and No. 6 Ian Miller was marquee bout of the afternoon. Martinez pinned Miller in 6:35, improving to 26-0 this season and running his win streak to 33 straight matches. No. 8 Jackson Morse, No. 7 Zac Brunson and No. 19 Nikko Reyes earned wins by decision at 165, 174 and 184 pounds, respectively. Morse grabbed a 9-4 win over Tyler Buckwalter, while Brunson downed Caleb Marsh, 3-2. Reyes earned a 6-3 victory over Jerald Spohn. Jeff Koepke earned Illinois' second win by fall at 197 pounds, pinning Stephen Suglio in 4:30. Brooks Black closed out the strong performance by the Illini with 5-0 decision over Mimmo Lytle at heavyweight. With the win, the Illini improve to 13-4 overall with their fifth consecutive victory. The win over the Golden Flashes also punches Illinois' ticket to the NWCA National Duals Finals next weekend in Iowa City, Iowa. The bracket for the event will be released early next week. "We are all looking forward to next weekend," said Martinez. "It's exciting to go against those guys that you aren't going to wrestle in conference and maybe get a feel for them before nationals." NORFOLK, Va. -- The 17th-ranked Old Dominion wrestling team earned a 22-9 victory over Central Michigan, which marks the teams 12th dual win of the season and fifth-consecutive Mid-American Conference win of the year. The Monarchs advance to 12-4 on the season and 5-1 in the MAC, while Central Michigan falls to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference. "We are proud of the way our guys wrestled today in a very hostile environment. We competed with a lot of energy, excitement and focus, which is what you have to do on day four of a road trip," said Head Coach Steve Martin. "It excites me as a coach to see our kids having fun! We have never beaten CMU at their place so we knew it would be a challenge. All 10 of our guys were in positions to win each of their matches." "Austin Coburn was in the zone today and wrestled very well. It was good to see him continue to attack throughout the match. Kevin Beazley did a great job and was very close to a fall in the first period and then continued to dominate his opponent. Henderson wrestled well on the top position, which is something we have been stressing with him all year long. Jeske wrestled his style and wrestled hard for seven minutes and he is doing so at the right time of the year. Hayes had several opportunities to win his match against a ranked wrestler and I was pleased with his effort. Chris Mecate lost on a stall call in the rideout, which is something you don't see often. Although the match went to overtime, we missed out on several scoring opportunities. This will make him more determined heading into the MAC tournament." "Lenny wrestled well in defeating No. 17 Heffernan and continues to put points on the board. Devin Geoghegan wrestled hard as well. Tristan Warner continues to lead our team in dual meet victories, as he is undefeated. He does what he does best and that is score back points! Dechow put himself in a position to score a lot of points in his match and poured it on throughout. We are a very good team and we did a great job focusing on scoring points today. We look forward to our last two duals at UNI on Friday night and NIU on Sunday!" No. 23 Kevin Beazley (197) started the match off with a win, taking down Jackson Lewis by a 10-4 decision. Beazley is now 24-12 on the season and 10-6 in dual action. ODU took a 9-0 lead over Central Michigan, after No. 28 Jake Henderson (285) and No. 25 Brandon Jeske (125) each recorded a win. Henderson took down Adam Robinson by a 5-2 decision, while Jeske defeated Brant Fleetwood by a 3-1 decision. The Chippewas answered by winning the next two matches over the Monarchs. Michael Hayes (133) fell to No. 32 Tyler Keselring by a 2-0 decision, while No. 9 Chris Mecate (141) was downed in tie-breaker one (3-1) by No. 10 Zach Horan. No. 9 Lenny Richardson (149) gave ODU a 12-9 lead after he took down No. 17 Colin Heffernan by a 5-2 decision to earn his 22nd win of the year. Central Michigan bounced back by winning the 157-pound bout. Cody LeCount defeated Devin Geoghegan, 4-3, to pull within three points (12-9) with three matches left. No. 13 Tristan Warner earned his 15th-straight dual win by defeating No. 31 Jordan Wohlfert by a 6-1 decision to give the Monarchs a 15-9 lead going into the 174-pound bout. Austin Coburn did not disappoint, as he took down No. 30 Jordan Ellingwood in sudden-victory by a 3-1 decision. ODU led 18-9 with just the 184-pound bout left. No. 2 Jack Dechow closed out the day with his 20th-consecutive win, with an 11-2 major decision over Austin Severn to secure the 22-9 win over the Chippewas. The Monarchs will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on Northern Iowa on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ODU will close the regular season on Sunday in DeKalb, Ill. to take on Northern Illinois at 3:00 p.m. For an in depth look to everything Monarchs Wrestling, make sure to follow the team on Facebook, Twitter (@ODUWrestling) and YouTube and on ODUsports.com. IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa wrestling team defeated 13th-ranked Virginia, 30-6, on Sunday afternoon in the opening round of the EAS/NWCA National Duals. The top-ranked Hawkeyes scored bonus points in four matches and got an upset at 174 pounds to improve to 15-0 overall, 10-0 against ranked opponents. Virginia won the first bout of the afternoon before Iowa scored bonus points in three straight matches to grab a 14-3 lead. Cory Clark and Josh Dziewa recorded major decisions against ranked opponents at 133 and 141, respectively, and Brandon Sorensen pinned Gus Sako in 6:09 at 149. "Bonus points are always good, especially in a dual meet like this when you're wrestling three backups,” said UI head coach Tom Brands. “You're always talking about bonus points and separation. It was a better performance than Friday, and then you get to see some excitement with some guys that you don't normally see.” Iowa wrestled without Thomas Gilman, Mike Evans, and Bobby Telford, but got two wins from their replacements, including an upset from Alex Meyer at 174. Meyer trailed sixth-ranked Blaise Butler, 8-6, early in the third period, but finished a takedown with 1:05 on the clock and used a ride-out to win, 9-8, with 1:09 riding time. "I did see at one point that a ride-out would win,” said Meyer. “I knew he was getting tired and if we went on our feet he was going to back away and keep me at a distance. I knew he didn't have a stall call and I could put a good ride on him. My corner wasn't telling me any different so that's what I did." It was Meyer’s second win in as many times out against a nationally ranked opponent. He pinned Illinois’ sixth-ranked Zac Brunson his last time out on Jan. 16. After nearly a month between competitions, he said he didn’t need the extra motivation of facing a ranked opponent. “You just want to go put on a show,” he said. “It doesn't really matter who the opponent is. If he's maybe not as good, you put on a show and score a ton of points, and if he's better then you, you go out and put on a show and score a ton of points." Kris Klapprodt followed that advice in the third period at 285 pounds. Klapprodt, who owns a 15-7 record at 197, bumped up a weight class and scored six points in the final period to defeat Patrick Gillen, 7-2. “The fun one for me was heavyweight,” said Brands. “We've got a 97-pounder out there who does whatever we ask. He's a great student, and he's between a rock and a hard place so good for him too." Iowa also got wins at 157, 184 and 197. Sammy Brooks scored a season-high 20 points with a 20-8 major decision at 184. Michael Kelly scored a takedown with one second left in the opening period and held on for a 2-1 win at 157, and Nathan Burak scored a takedown in each period to defeat 19th-ranked Zach Nye, 8-2, at 197 Overall the Hawkeyes won eight-of-10 bouts and held a 24-8 advantage in takedowns to advance to the quarterfinals of the EAS/NWCA National Duals. “We're in the postseason now,” said Dziewa, who has won four of his last five against ranked opponents. “The regular season is over. Today was the first leg of the postseason. We've got the National Duals, Big Tens, and nationals. I'm not sure who we're going to line up against on Saturday, but we're ready to go against anybody." Iowa hosts the EAS/NWCA final rounds on Feb. 21-22 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes’ opponent will be announced Tuesday, Feb. 17. Quarterfinals begin at 12 p.m. (CT) on Feb. 21. Semifinals follow at 3 p.m. The finals are Sunday at 11:30 a.m. BTN will televise the semifinals and finals. Tickets are $10 for Saturday and $20 for Sunday. Prices are for all ages. Contact the UI Athletics Ticket Office or visit hawkeyesports.com for ticket information. NOTES: Attendance was 6,564… Laux made his Carver-Hawkeye Arena debut… Dziewa improved to 6-3 against ranked opponents… Sorensen’s fall was his sixth of the season… Meyer’s last two wins have been against the sixth-ranked wrestler in the country (Zac Brunson, ILL)… Meyer is 4-0 all-time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena… Quarterfinal teams include Iowa, Chattanooga, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio State, Lehigh, Missouri, and Cornell. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Danny Sabatello and Doug Welch provided bonus points as the 24th-ranked Purdue wrestling team defeated Michigan State, 22-13, Sunday inside Holloway Gymnasium. The Boilermakers captured four additional weights to lift their record to 9-8, 2-6 B1G. MSU (5-11, 1-8 B1G) won at four weights, including the last three bouts of the dual, in its final conference matchup of the season. The Old Gold & Black jumped out to a 7-0 lead thanks to Aaron Assad and Sabatello. An escape and two penalty points, all in the third period, pushed Assad past Mitch Rogaliner, 3-1, in the first contest of the dual at 125 pounds. Sabatello followed with the fifth major decision of his redshirt junior campaign, blanking Garth Yenter, 8-0. The 11th-ranked 133-pounder took Yenter down in each period, escaped in the second and added 3:10 of riding time to move his season mark to 23-5. While winning his third straight, the Long Grove, Ill., native, improved to 15-2 in duals and 6-2 against B1G opponents. After dropping a decision at 141, Purdue won back-to-back bouts to take a commanding 16-3 lead into the break. Brandon Nelsen's third-period takedown was the difference maker in a 7-6 decision over Nick Trimble at 149 pounds. Nelsen, who hails from Indianapolis, Ind., rallied after trailing in the opening period to take a 5-4 edge in the second with a pair of escapes and a takedown. The win was the second in as many meetings this season with Trimble as Nelsen improved to 3-1 all-time against the Spartan. "I wrestled him last year and earlier on [this season]," Nelsen said. "It is always real heated between us. You've got to battle through to get it. It was a stressful match, especially at the end of the periods getting a takedown or fending one off; [you really] use your training in situations like this." Nelsen improved to 19-10 in his final campaign while winning the 80th match of his Boilermaker career. With just 12 seconds left on the clock in the 157-pound match, No. 11 D. Welch was on his way to a 5-1 decision, but he opted for a more exciting finish by sticking Travis Curley. D. Welch had built his lead thanks to a takedown and a rideout in the opening period and a reversal in the third. His 6:48 fall is the second of the season as the redshirt junior improved to 24-8 and 6-2 in B1G duals. "Anytime you can pin someone, especially at home in front of a big crowd, it means a lot; it's exciting," D. Welch said. "A pin is the goal in wrestling; it is the highest thing you can get." Purdue's grapplers continued their winning ways coming out of the break. Pat Robinson registered a 5-3 decision against Roger Wildmo in the redshirt senior's 40th career dual start. The 165-pounder picked up a second-consecutive victory and his 12th win of the season. Chad Welch followed in the ensuing match at 174 by edging Nick Proctor, 2-0. A second-period rideout was key to the win as riding time and an escape in the third were the only points scored in the bout. C. Welch moved to 18-13 on the season while snapping a four-match losing skid. The Purdue wrestling team will honor its six seniors while closing out their dual schedule against archrival Indiana in Holloway Gymnasium Friday at 7 p.m. ET. "I am excited for it already watching some of the other rivalry games in the other sports," Purdue head coach Tony Ersland said. "Our guys are aware of the rivalry, no doubt, and we are pumped for it. It is a short week for us, a quick turnaround for a Friday night dual. We will get back to work tomorrow and really get after them on Friday." Results: 125 // Aaron Assad (Purdue) dec. LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell wrestling team won each of the final four bouts to come back from an early deficit and defeat Army 25-13 Saturday afternoon at Davis Gym. The Bison improved to 15-3 overall this season and 8-0 against EIWA foes as they stretched their winning streak to 10 and improved to 6-0 at home this season. Bucknell, which is ranked 22nd nationally, had its victory keyed by bonus points as four of its six victories were by major decision, tech fall or fall. The highlight of the day was Joe Stolfi’s first-period pin of Stephen Snyder that was the 50th of his career, tying Brian Pitzer’s school record that has stood for 15 years. Army (2-6, 2-4 EIWA) had three nationally ranked wrestlers in its lineup and proved to be a tough test, especially early. Back-to-back wins by No. 16 Russell Parsons (157) and No. 20 Cole Gracey (165) staked the Black Knights to an early 6-4 advantage. Brian Harvey added a major decision at 174 to make it a 10-4 cushion with Bucknell’s only points at that juncture coming on an opening-match major decision by Victor Lopez at 149 pounds. The Bison, who have already set a school record for victories in a season, then shined the rest of the way with an 11-6 decision by Tom Sleigh at 184 narrowing the initial gap. The freshman led 5-0 after the first period and never trailed on his way to his ninth win in his last 10 bouts. Tyler Lyster then lost a hard-fought 3-2 decision on the riding time point at 197 against nationally ranked Bryce Barnes. Each of Lyster’s last three losses have been by just one point. Then Stolfi, who is ranked 11th nationally and leads the nation in pins, took to the mat. After a slow start, he pinned Snyder in 2:57, nearly the exact time it took him to pin his opponent in a 33-6 win over Franklin & Marshall on Friday night. Stolfi improved to 33-5 on the season as he won for the 20th straight time. He now has 18 pins this year. His victory tied the score at 13-13. Nineteenth-ranked Paul Petrov followed with a dominating 17-0 tech fall at 125. The bout against Sean Badua was scoreless after the first period, but Petrov scored three near falls in the second period and two more in the final period for the shutout victory. Grim Gonzalez then clinched the outcome of the match with a 12-4 major decision at 133 pounds as Bucknell’s lead grew to 22-13 with just one bout remaining. Tyler Smith closed the match with a 9-4 decision over Logan Everett at 141 pounds. He led just 4-3 entering the final period, but recorded a reversal and takedown and earned the riding time point for his 18th win of the season. “We competed well as a team,” said Bison head coach Dan Wirnsberger. “You never know what to expect when you compete on back-to-back days. It was good to see our guys come out with maximum effort. We knew it was going to be a tough one and once we turned the corner at 184 pounds and were close, we felt confident.” Bucknell has just two duals remaining this season. The Bison will wrap up their home schedule Friday, Feb. 20, against Binghamton and then travel to VMI Feb. 22 to conclude the regular season. Results: 149: Victor Lopez (B) maj. dec. NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers wins in each of the first five bouts set the tone Saturday at the College Ave. Gym, before Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) sent the RU faithful home with a heavyweight decision and a 24-11 dual win over in-state rival Princeton. No. 21 Rutgers (13-7, 2-7 Big Ten) ended its home dual season against the Tigers and closes the year on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Drexel. “It was great to finish the home schedule with a big win for our fans,” said head coach Scott Goodale. “The fans gave us a great home match environment this season. We really appreciate the support.” The Scarlet Knights were on their way to a win at the intermission, picking up wins from 125-157 pounds to build an 18-0 lead. 125-pounder Sean McCabe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and No. 18/15/NR/17 133-pounder Scott DelVecchio (South Plainfield, N.J.) each earned major decisions in their matchups to start the dual. McCabe (15-8, 11-6 Duals) converted his takedown as time expired to secure the major, while DelVecchio (18-7, 12-5 Duals) controlled his match throughout. Decisions from No. 17/14/17/20 149-pounder Ken Theobold (Toms River, N.J.) and No. 9/7/12/9 141-pounder Anthony Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J.) to follow made the dual score 14-0. Theobold (22-5, 16-3 Duals) bounced back from a loss last week to keep pace with Ashnault (22-4, 18-2 Duals) for the team wins lead. Ashnault has won his last five matches, grinding out a 3-2 decision against Jordan Laster Saturday. Redshirt senior 165-pounder Nick Visicaro (Long Branch, N.J.) kept pace with No. NR/18/NR/NR Jonathan Schleifer through the first, but fell behind after surrendering a takedown and two back points in the second period in a 12-3 loss. 174-pounder Phil Bakuckas (Hammonton, N.J.), ranked No. 20 in the latest NCAA Coaches Panel, got back on track with an 8-3 decision against Judd Ziegler. The win was the first not by forfeit for Bakuckas (18-11, 11-9 Duals) since Jan. 25 at Maryland. Princeton (8-6, 5-4 EIWA) strung together consecutive wins at 184 and 197 pounds over Anthony Pafumi (Westfield, N.J.) and Hayden Hrymack (Point Pleasant, N.J.), respectively, to make the dual score 21-11 with one bout remaining. But a pair of takedowns and a reversal from Smith (13-6, 10-6 Duals) in a commanding 7-2 win allowed RU to end the dual on top. Smith controlled Ray O’Donnell from the top position, accruing 5:11 of riding time in the win. Prior to the match, the program honored redshirt senior Nick Visicaro and senior manager Carly Ashnault. The Scarlet Knights also welcomed the Embrace Kids Foundation and nine-year-old Brandon to a match for the second consecutive year. Brandon is paired with the Rutgers wrestling team through the RU4Kids program. Rutgers closes the dual season on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Drexel. BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- No. 11 Lehigh overcame a sluggish start to win six of the final seven bouts as the Mountain Hawks rallied to defeat George Mason 27-9 Saturday in the regional round of the NWCA National Duals Saturday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The Mountain Hawks won seven of ten bouts overall, highlighted by junior Nathaniel Brown's first period pin over Daniel Mika at 184, which gave Lehigh the lead for good, heading into intermission. With the victory, Lehigh improves to 13-4 on the dual season. The Mountain Hawks are the first of eight teams to punch their ticket to next weekend's National Duals championship finals in Iowa City, Iowa. The win as also the 99th for Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro as the Mountain Hawks' mentor. "We definitely were flat and George Mason came ready to wrestle," Santoro said. "They were more excited than we were out there and that's a little bothersome right now. We don't have much time left in the season. We have to show up and wrestle hard for seven minutes. We weren't creating opportunities. The dual began at 149 with freshman Drew Longo staking Lehigh to a 3-0 lead with a 6-4 decision over Blake Roulo. Longo conceded the first takedown but led 3-2 after two periods behind two escapes and a penalty point for stalling. With the match tied 3-3 early in the third, Longo scored a takedown on the edge and proceeded to put on a strong ride to earn riding time advantage. The next two bouts did not go Lehigh's way as George Mason's Greg Flournoy rode a first period takedown to a 4-3 upset win over sophomore Mitch Minotti at 157. Patrick Davis then gave the Patriots the lead, collecting three takedowns in an 8-6 win over senior Marshall Peppelman at 165. While Peppelman was unable to secure a win on senior night, fellow fifth-year wrestler Santiago Martinez pulled the Mountain Hawks level at 6-6 with an 8-3 decision over Ryan Forrest at 174. Martinez used an arm-throw and then a bear hug for two first period takedowns and added a third takedown in the third period plus an escape and more than two minutes of riding time. Brown then gave Lehigh the lead back with his third pin of the season. After an early takedown, Brown threw both legs in on his ride and used a power half to deck Mika in just 1:49 to give the Mountain Hawks a 12-6 lead at intermission. In the first match after the break, sophomore Elliot Riddick was impressive in a 23-6 technical fall win over Derek Dwyer at 197. Riddick collected six takedowns across the three periods and nearly pinned Dwyer in the second, settling for a three point near fall. After reversing to open the third, Riddick closed the match with two takedowns and another near fall to end the match at the 6:52 mark. "It was good for Elliot to go out and score some points," Santoro said. "That was a big win for him last weekend and he has some good momentum right now." George Mason's final win came at heavyweight as Jake Kettler defeated sophomore Doug Vollaro 3-2 in the second round of sudden victory over Vollaro picked up his second stall warning. Freshman Scott Parker returned to the Lehigh lineup at 125 and posted an 8-1 win over Ibrahim Bunduka. Parker scored an early takedown and amassed more than two minutes of riding time in the first period. Leading 2-1 after two, Parker picked up an escape plus a takedown and two point near fall, plus 3:42 of riding time to narrowly miss the major decision. Junior Mason Beckman picked up Lehigh's third bonus point win of the night with a 13-0 major decision over Vince Rodriguez at 133. Beckman scored a takedown in each period and added an early two point near fall plus three penalty points for Rodriguez stalling and 3:23 of riding time advantage. The final bout of the dual went into overtime. Sophomore Randy Cruz gave up a third period takedown to Sahid Kargbo at 141 but finished regulation tied 2-2 behind a pair of escapes. After a scoreless sudden victory period, Cruz locked up a cradle and turned Kargbo for three near fall points in the first half of the tiebreaker before escaping in the second half to win 6-2. "Coming in we knew bonus points were going to be big," Santoro said. "There were a lot of tight matchups. We thought 133 would be a big matchup as would 157 and 165. We dropped two of those three. "There were some guys that did some nice things tonight," Santoro continued. "We have a big weekend next weekend and we have to be a lot sharper." Laramie, Wyo. -- In a battle of two Top 25 ranked teams on Wyoming’s Senior Night, the No. 19 ranked Wyoming Cowboys fought back from a 14-3 deficit halfway through their match versus No. 17 ranked Oregon State to capture a thrilling 21-17 dual victory. First-period pins by Wyoming’s Andy McCulley at 174 pounds and Tyler Harms at 285 pounds fueled the Cowboy comeback. The win improved Wyoming’s dual record to 9-4 this season. It was the first dual loss of the year for Oregon State. The Beavers are now 11-1 on the year. “It was an exciting way to end a dual, and if you were here and you aren’t a wrestling fan now something is wrong with you,” said Wyoming head coach Mark Branch after the win. “Things were not going well early, I knew we could get ourselves back in it, but you don’t foresee getting two pins. It can be a crazy sport.” Wyoming senior Tyler Cox, ranked No. 15 in the nation at 125 pounds, began Senior Night for the Cowboys with a convincing 9-3 win over No. 10 ranked Ronnie Bresser of Oregon State to give UW a 3-0 lead, but the Beavers won the next four matches at 133, 141, 149 and 157 pounds to take a 14-3 lead at intermission. “It was an important win for Tyler (Cox),” Branch said. “He gave us a big spark to open the match. “But things didn’t go well for us after that. I was really disappointed in a couple of my guys. I felt they got out-wrestled and out-hustled. As excited as I am for our seniors and for us to get a good team win, I felt that after Tyler (Cox) gave us that spark we gave it up in the next four matches. The first match after intermission saw Wyoming’s Dakota Friesth, ranked No. 18 in the country, become the second Cowboy senior to record a victory on the evening, capturing an 8-5 win over OSU’s Seth Thomas at 165 pounds to pull the Pokes to within eight points at 14-6. Wyoming’s McCulley the continued the streak of Cowboy seniors to win, and he did it in dramatic fashion. Only 35 seconds into his match, McCulley recorded a fall over Oregon State’s Joe Latham at 174 pounds to narrow the Oregon State lead to only two points at 14-12. McCulley, who entered the match ranked 14th in the country, recorded his 99th victory as a Cowboy with his first-period pin. “I think of my senior night and all the emotions I had and when Andy (McCulley) came out like a caged animal it scared me,” said Branch. “But man what an animal he was tonight and gave us a great lift.” The 184-pound weight class was a matchup of two nationally-ranked wrestlers. Oregon State’s No. 7 ranked Taylor Meeks and Wyoming’s No. 19 ranked Benjamin Stroh faced off, with Meeks winning an 8-2 decision to build OSU’s lead to five points at 17-12. With only two weight classes remaining, the third matchup of ranked wrestlers was featured at 197 pounds. Wyoming’s No. 14 ranked Shane Woods and Oregon State’s No. 20 ranked Cody Crawford wrestled in a critical match. Woods recorded the only takedown of the match 26 seconds into the first period, but Crawford came back with an escape to end the first period with Woods up 2-1. Only 11 seconds into the second period, Woods recorded an escape of his own and the second period ended with Woods leading 3-1. The third period saw Crawford record a quick escape five seconds into the final period to narrow the lead to 3-2, but there would be no more scoring in the match as Woods notched his team best 27th win of the season and put the Pokes back within striking distance in the team score at 15-17. It then came down to Cowboy junior Tanner Harms to complete the Wyoming comeback in the final match of the evening in the 285-pound weight class. Harms was up for the challenge with a takedown 16 seconds into the first period. He then quickly put OSU’s Nate Keeve on his back and pinned Keeve 1:05 into the match, vaulting the Cowboys to a 21-17 victory. “I have seen Tanner (Harms) be that animal and when the opening whistle blew I knew Tanner was good,” Branch said. “I’m glad he could get the pin so we could wrap it up.” On a night when seven Cowboy seniors were honored prior to their final home match in the UniWyo Sports Complex, the four seniors who wrestled all recorded individual victories on way to the team win. “We got Tyler (Cox), Andy (McCulley), Shane (Woods) and Dakota (Friesth) and then you have the other seniors like Robert (Stroh), Brandon (Richardson) and Leland (Pfeifer). I can’t put into words how special these guys are, and they have helped change this program,” said Branch. Wyoming returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 15 when they will host Boise State at 2 p.m. at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, Wyo. Sunday’s match will take place at Western Wyoming’s Rushmore Gymnasium. “I’m excited to head to Rock Springs,” added Branch. “It is a wrestling rich part of our state, and I’m always excited to introduce our team to fans who can’t get down to Laramie to see us. “It will be an exciting dual with a great crowd and hopefully the fans will walk away saying they love wrestling. “This will be a home dual. We are proud of Wyoming and proud of our fans, and we are going to go over there and do our best to showcase our program.” Results: 125: No. 15 Tyler Cox (Wyoming) Dec. #10 Ronnie Bresser (Oregon State), 9-3 – WYO 3-0 133:Jack Hathaway (Oregon State) Dec. IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa wrestling team improved to 9-0 in the conference and captured the Big Ten regular season championship with a 22-9 win against 16th-ranked Michigan on Friday night. The win gave Iowa the outright dual championship for the seventh time since the conference started recognizing a dual champion in 1999. The Hawkeyes have won or shared the title in seven of the last eight years, but like in years past, it’s a trophy that is here today, gone tomorrow. "It's not what our ultimate goal is,” said junior Nathan Burak, "but like coach says, it's just another feather in our hat and that was what was ahead of us so we got it.” The Hawkeyes won seven-of-10 bouts and owned a 13-3 advantage in takedowns, but had more than a handful of slow starts, including six scoreless first periods, and split six matches against ranked opponents. "I don't think we wrestled to score points, I think we wrestled to hand fight and I think we wrestled to stay in there,” said UI head coach Tom Brands. "I think we wrestled to survive and I don't know if your best chance to win is to try to survive. Your best chance to win is to go out and score points and to put the energy into that simple task. We need to do a better job of that." Iowa won the first four matches and took a 13-3 lead into intermission. Fifth-ranked Thomas Gilman scored takedowns in the first and second periods and added 1:03 riding time to defeat 20th-ranked Conor Youtsey, 6-1, at 125. Sixth-ranked Cory Clark scored four first-period takedowns, added a reversal and three nearfall in the second period, and totaled 4:28 of riding time to earn a 14-3 major decision at 133. Sixth-ranked Josh Dziewa shutout George Fisher, 6-0, at 141, and second-ranked Brandon Sorensen extended his winning streak to 11 matches with a 2-1 win at 149. Sorensen and 13th-ranked Alec Pantaleo traded escapes in the second and third period, but Sorensen prevailed with 1:27 riding time. It marked his 11th straight win, a streak that includes six ranked opponents, but Sorensen found little reason to celebrate. "I didn't like the way I performed at all,” Sorensen said. "I was flat footed, I wasn't hitting multiple holds at a time, more single holds and it could have been a lot better. I could have gotten to my attacks and it could have been better." Michigan dented the scoreboard when 10th-ranked Brian Murphy defeated 13th-ranked Michael Kelly at 157. The Hawkeyes then pulled away with consecutive wins at 165 and 174. Ninth-ranked Nick Moore scored late takedowns in the second and third periods to win 6-1, and third-ranked Mike Evans scored three takedowns in the final 2:16 to win 8-3 at 174, extending the Hawkeyes’ lead to 19-3. Michigan closed the dual with two wins in the final three matches -- all bouts featuring ranked opponents. Eighth-ranked Sammy Brooks allowed a takedown with 21 seconds on the clock to drop a 3-2 decision to 12th-ranked Dominic Abounader at 184. The teams then split a pair of overtime matches at 197 and 285. Sixth-ranked Nathan Burak turned a double-leg into four points in the first sudden victory period to defeat eighth-ranked Max Huntley, 4-0, at 197. Seventh-ranked Adam Coon closed the dual with a reversal in the first tiebreak to defeat second-ranked Bobby Telford, 3-2, at 285. Iowa finished the dual season 14-0 and 9-0 in the Big Ten. The postseason begins Sunday against Virginia in the opening round of the EAS/NWCA National Duals. "We have a lot of work to do,” said Tom Brands. "It was not an inspiring performance for whatever reason. The stats that I looked at, I don't look at stats much, but the stats I looked at were not pretty.” Iowa hosts Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT) on Mediacom Mat at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for youth 18 and younger. UI students and children five years old and younger are admitted free. NOTES: Attendance was 8,319… Iowa (14-0, 9-0) won the regular season title outright for the seventh time since the Big Ten started recognizing a dual champion in 1999… Iowa has won or shared seven of the last eight Big Ten dual championships… Tom Brands won for the 160th time as Iowa’s head coach (160-15-1), tying Dave McCuskey for No. 2 in program history… the Hawkeyes recognized seven seniors following the dual, including Josh Dziewa, Mike Evans, Jeremy Fahler, Matt Gurule, Michael Kelly, Nick Moore, and Bobby Telford. Don't expect the greatest fight card ever this Saturday with the UFC's latest fight night installment. The main card features a middleweight fight that would seem more at home on a Bellator undercard, while a flyweight scrap between contenders Tim Elliot and Zach Makovsky is relegated to the prelims. The main event could be interesting, but Brandon Thatch, while and exciting prospect, has been out of action since 2013, and his opponent, Ben Henderson, is moving up to welterweight and doing so on short notice. Nevertheless, enjoy the breakdown. But at least no one on this card has tested positive for any performance enhancing drugs ... yet. Do you want to listen to a past episode? Access archives.

KENT, Ohio – Seniors Tyler Small and Caleb Marsh gave themselves one final fond memory of the M.A.C. Center Friday night in Kent State's 27-6 victory over Northern Illinois. Eight Golden Flashes had their hand raised, including Small and Marsh on their Senior Night. In the third match of the night (141) Small gave the Flashes their first lead with a 12-0 blanking of Tyler Argue. Leading 2-0 after one period, a reversal that quickly turned into a cradle nearly flattened Argue and gave Small a commanding 7-0 lead. The major decision was the second of seven straight Kent State victories. "Tyler did a good job in some different situations," Head Coach Jim Andrassy said. "Hopefully he's starting to turn the corner and can continue going in the right direction." The bonus points kept on coming as Mike DePalma and Ian Miller each recorded major decisions at 149 and 157. DePalma used his 2-on-1 flip and tilt twice in the first period on the way to a 9-0 shutout of Austin Culton. Miller totaled five takedowns in a 15-4 victory over Andrew Morse. After his second takedown of the first period, Miller locked up a cradle and powered over the head of Morse for another three points. Junior Tyler Buckwalter scrambled his way to a clutch third period takedown and sealed up a riding time point in an 8-5 win over Shaun'Qae McMurtry. A two-point turn in the first helped Buckwalter jump out to a 5-0 lead. Marsh unleashed a pair of three-point turns in the first period on his way to a 10-4 victory over Trace Engelkes. "It's a really nice feeling to have both seniors come out and win their last match in the M.A.C. Center," Andrassy said. "Hopefully they have same feeling." The seventh straight win came from Jerald Spohn (184), who trailed 7-5 after two periods, but came away with a 9-7 decision. In wild, unorthodox fashion, Spohn continued to turn dangerous positions into points in the third. Starting from the top position, Spohn nearly gave up a reversal, before his constant movement suddenly created a cradle for three near fall points and riding time. The Golden Flashes streak began with a convincing 7-1 win for Mack McGuire over Jordan Northrup (133). McGuire finished off takedowns in the first and third periods and scored a reversal in the second. Sophomore Mimmo Lytle's aggressive approach earned him a 4-2 victory over Arthur Bunce. Lytle continued to push Bunce backward for a third-period stalling point that broke a 1-1 tie. Kent State (8-12, 4-4 MAC) heads west for the regional round of the NWCA National Duals Sunday against No. 12 Illinois in Champaign. Results: 125: Derek Elmore (NIU) won by decision over Del Vinas (KSU), 5-3 133: Mack McGuire (KSU) won by decision over Jordan Northrup (NIU), 7-1 141: Tyler Small (KSU) won by major decision over Tyler Argue (NIU), 12-0 149: Mike DePalma (KSU) won by major decision over Austin Culton (NIU), 9-0 157: Ian Miller (KSU) won by major decision over Andrew Morse (NIU), 15-4 165: Tyler Buckwalter (KSU) won by decision over Shaun'Qae McMurty (NIU), 8-5 174: Caleb Marsh (KSU) won by decision over Trace Engelkes (NIU), 10-4 184: Jerald Spohn (KSU) won by decision over Quinton Rosser (NIU), 9-7 197: Shawn Scott (NIU) won by decision over Stephen Suglio (KSU), 6-0 285: Mimmo Lytle (KSU) won by decision over Arthur Bunce (NIU), 4-2

Bonus points were awarded to Earl Hall (technical fall at 133 pounds) and Michael Moreno (major decision at 165 pounds), as the Cyclones won their 1,041st dual in program history. Third-ranked Michael Moreno scored the first Cyclone points with a 12-4 major decision over ASU’s Jacen Petersen at 165 pounds. Moreno wasted little time by recording three first-period takedowns. His 18th victory of the season featured five takedowns in all. At 174 pounds, Tanner Weatherman’s takedown with under a minute left in the third period was the deciding factor in his 4-1 victory over ASU’s Ray Waters. Weatherman, ranked 12th nationally, improves to 20-7 on the year. No. 2 Kyven Gadson picked up a decision at 197 pounds with a 12-7 victory over Luke Bean. Quean Smith tacked on three more points for Iowa State with a 6-3 victory over Chace Eskam at heavyweight. Smith recorded a pair of takedowns in the win, including key takedown on a single leg with 1:03 left in the bout. Smith improves to 14-10 this season. ISU’s Kyle Larson won a tight match over Ares Carpio, 2-1 at 125 pounds. The match was tied at 1-1 heading into the third period, but Larson moved ahead with the winning point when Carpio was called for stalling with 1:00 left in the match. Third-ranked Earl Hall continued his hot streak for the Cyclones, winning his 11th-straight match on a technical fall over Judson Preskitt at the 6:20 mark (17-2) in the 133-pound match. Hall tallied a trio of 3-point near-falls in the dominating victory, his 23rd of the season. The most exciting match of the evening was at 141 pounds. ISU’s Dante Rodriguez raced out to an early 4-0 lead, but then found himself down 9-6 heading into third period. Still down 9-7 with under a minute left in the match, Rodriguez secured a single leg followed by a cradle to record the takedown and 3-point near-fall. Rodriguez then hung on for the 12-10 decision. NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion Wrestling Monarchs picked up their fourth-consecutive Mid-American Conference win, as they took down Eastern Michigan by a 25-13 score. The 17th-ranked Monarchs improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference, while the Eagles fell to 7-11 and 0-6 in the conference. "Our guys wrestled hard on the road tonight," said head coach Steve Martin. "Warner and Jeske put a lot of points on the board, which was good to see. Mecate, Richardson, Dechow and Henderson wrestled smart and looked good as well. We had several close fought matches that could have gone either way with TC, Cobrun and Beazley. This competition will further prepare us for the MAC tournament. We look forward to competing against a tough CMU team on Sunday." After dropping to opening 133-pond bout, redshirt junior No. 9 Chris Mecate (149) earned three points for ODU after defeating Michael Shaw by a 5-3 decision. Mecate earned two early takedowns in the first period and earned a penalty point to reach the final margin. No. 9 Lenny Richardson won the 149-pound bout by forfeit to give the Monarchs a 9-4 lead. Freshman TC Warner dropped a close 5-3 bout to Brandon Zeerip, as the Eagles climbed back to just three points (10-7) with six matches left. No. 13 Tristan Warner increased ODU’s lead (14-7) as he recorded his third tech fall of the season with a 17-1 margin over Austin Geerlings. He notched three takedowns, one reversal, two three-point nearfalls and two penalty points during his match. The Eagles responded by winning the 174-pound match, as Kayne MacCallum defeated Austin Coburn by a 3-1 decision. ODU led 14-10 with four bouts to go. All-American, No. 2 Jack Dechow, earned his 14th-consecutive dual win by defeating Michael Curby by a 4-2 decision, giving ODU a 17-10 lead. With riding time combined with a takedown and an escape, Dechow claimed the win and his 18th in a row. Anthony Arbo pulled the Eagles to within four points (17-13) when he defeated Kevin Beazley in sudden victory (3-1) after recording a takedown. Jake Henderson won the 285-pound bout, after notching one takedown and a three-point nearfall in the first period. With riding time, Henderson took down Gage Hutchinson by a 6-1 decision to give the Monarchs a 20-13 lead with just the 125-pound match to go.
