UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lions (3-0, 3-0 B1G), ranked No. 3 in the latest InterMat Tournament Power Index, took care of homestanding Wisconsin (1-4, 1-4) in their third straight road dual in a five-day Big Ten road swing. Head coach Cael Sanderson's squad won all nine contested bouts on its way to a lopsided 34-6 victory over the Badgers in Madison. The dual meet was originally scheduled for this coming weekend as part of a tri-meet at Michigan. But the Wolverines have paused all athletic activities, postponing the event in Ann Arbor. With Penn State already in Chicago having won two duals in a tri-meet at Northwestern, the team trekked to Madison for today's rescheduled dual. The dual began at 125, where Wisconsin's Eric Barnett won by forfeit as Penn State had no 125-pounders cleared to wrestle during its five-day swing through the Midwest. Nittany Lion Roman Bravo-Young (Tucson, Ariz.), ranked No. 3 at 133, put Penn State on the board with an 11-6 decision over Wisconsin's Kyle Burwick. Senior Nick Lee (Evansville, Pa), ranked No. 2 at 141, then put Penn State up for good with a 16-1 first period tech fall (3:00) over UW's Trey Escobar, giving the Lions an 8-6 lead. Senior Luke Gardner (Pottsville, Pa.) got the call at 149 for Penn State and used a quick takedown in extra time to post a thrilling 7-5 (sv) win over Wisconsin's Drew Scharenbrock. Junior Brady Berge (Mantorville, Minn.), ranked No. 9 at 157, dominated Wisconsin's Garrett Model and rolled to a 12-4 major with 1:22 in riding time. Berge's major put Penn State up 15-6 at the midway point of the dual meet. Freshman Joe Lee (Evansville, Ind.), ranked No. 6 at 165, continued Penn State's dominance in the next bout, rolling to a 12-3 major over Patrick Spray. Freshman Carter Starocci (Erie, Pa.), ranked No. 8 at 174, grabbed his third win of the season with a 5-3 victory over Wisconsin's Jared Krattiger. Sophomore Aaron Brooks (Hagerstown, Md.), ranked No. 3 at 184, met No. 10 Chris Weiler in the dual's marquee match-up and rolled over the Badger. Brooks tallied five takedowns in a 13-3 major with 1:56 in riding time and gave the Nittany Lions a 2-6-6 lead. Freshman Michael Beard (Pottstown, Pa.), ranked No. 13 at 197, made his Penn State dual and collegiate debut and put on an offensive show. Beard used four takedowns and four nearfall turns to post an 18-2 technical fall at the 4:43 mark, giving Penn State a 31-6 lead. Sophomore Seth Nevills (Clovis, Calif.), ranked No. 8 at 258, closed out the dual with 4-3 win over Peter Christensen to finish off the Nittany Lions' 34-6 dual meet victory. Penn State rolled up 30 takedowns in nine wrestled matches and gave up only three. The Lions picked up seven bonus points off two tech falls (Nick Lee, Beard) and three majors (Berge, Joe Lee, Brooks). Wisconsin's lone win was the forfeit victory at 125, netting three bonus points. Four extra matches were conducted during the dual meet on a separate mat. This year, with condensed schedules, these extra matches, while not counting towards dual meet scores, are official varsity bouts and count towards NCAA competition minimums. True freshman Beau Bartlett (Tempe, Ariz.) downed Dominic Dentino at 141 in Penn State's first extra bout, winning 13-6 to stay unbeaten on the season. Freshman Terrell Barraclough (Kaysville, Utah) posted a strong 8-3 win over Dan Stilling at 149 and senior Bo Pipher (Paonia, Colo.) dominated Aiden Medora in a 7-0 win with 3:00 in riding time. Sophomore Creighton Edsell (Wyalusing, Pa.) capped off Penn State's perfect extra-bout run with a 12-2 major over Wisconsin's Seth Vosters at 174. With the 4-0 run in extra bouts, Penn State won all 13 contested contests on the day. Penn State is now 3-0 on the year, 3-0 in Big Ten action. Wisconsin falls to 1-4, 1-4 B1G. The Nittany Lions will return to action on Friday, Feb. 12, when the Iowa Hawkeyes invade Rec Hall for a 9 p.m. Eastern match-up. The dual will air live nationally on the Big Ten Network. He chose down to start the second period and quickly turned into a low single to take Burwick down once more for a 9-3 lead. Burwick managed an escape and then fought off a late Bravo-Young shot to keep the bout close after two. Bravo-Young led 9-4 after two. Burwick chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 9-5 score. Bravo-Young then blew through a high shot for an 11-6 lead after cutting the Badger loose. The Lion forced a scramble that ended in a potentially dangerous situation. Burwick fought off Bravo-Young's final efforts and the Lion settled for a solid 11-6 win. 141: Senior Nick Lee (Evansville, Ind.), ranked No. 2 at 141, took on Wisconsin's Trey Escobar. Lee came out fasts, taking Escobar down for an early 2-1 lead. He then picked up a quick second takedown and then turned Escobar for four nearfall to lead 8-1 at the 1:52 mark. Lee turned the Badger again for four more back points and opened up a 12-1 lead at the 1:27 mark. Lee used an arm bar to work Escobar one more time for four more back points to roll to a first period tech fall, winning 16-1 at the 3:00 mark. 149: Senior Luke Gardner (Pottsville, Pa.) took on Drew Scharenbrock at 149. Gardner opened up the action with a first period takedown. Scharenbrock was able to work his way to a quick escape and the action resumed in neutral. Gardner set the offensive tempo throughout the opening period but Scharenbrock was able to keep the Lion from scoring. Gardner shot low as the period ended and Scharenbrock was able to counter the move for a late takedown to lead 3-2 after the opening period. Gardner chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 3-3 tie. Gardner used a quick shot to take a 5-3 lead but Scharenbrock was able to escape with just :04 left in the period to trail 5-4 after two. Scharenbrock chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 5-5 tie. Gardner took a low single that forced a scramble which ended in a stalemate with 1:07 on the clock. Gardner took another shot at the :25 mark that Scharenbrock countered, forcing a scramble that nearly ended in a takedown for each wrestler but the clock ran out and the bout moved to sudden victory. Gardner wasted no time, shooting low on the Badger and getting a quick takedown just seconds into the sudden victory period to post the 7-5 (sv) win. 157: Junior Brady Berge (Mantorville, Minn.), ranked No. 9 at 157, took on Wisconsin's Garrett Model. The duo battled through an even ninety seconds with neither wrestler finding an opening to score. Berge looked to control the middle of the mat, fighting off two slight Model shots to keep the bout scoreless as the clock moved to the :45 mark. With the bout scoreless after one period, Berge chose down to start the second period and worked his way to an escape and a 1-0 lead. Berge used a low single work Model's leg up to his shoulder and finished off the takedown on the edge of the mat for a 3-0 lead. Model managed an escape at the :45 mark and Berge led 3-1. Berge stepped away from a Model shot, countered and moved behind the Badger and took Model down for another takedown and a 5-1 lead. 5-1, Model chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 5-2 score. Berge quickly moved around the Badger for a third takedown and a 7-2 lead with 1:35 on the clock. Berge maintained control of Model to the 1:05 mark before he escaped to a 7-3 score but Berge quickly took him down again and led 9-4 with :50 left to wrestle. Berge added another takedown with :15 left and pushed his riding time over 1:00. The Lion finished on top and, with 1:22 in time, posted the 12-4 major. 165: Freshman Joe Lee (Evansville, Ind.), ranked No. 6 at 165, took on Patrick Spray. Joe Lee notched a takedown just :25 into the bout and led 2-1 early. Lee quickly took Spray down again and turned the Badger for two back points to open up a 6-1 lead with 1:51 on the clock. He cut Spray loose, fought off a slight Spray shot, countered the effort and rolled through another takedown to lead 8-2 with :50 left in the period. He turned Spray and rolled him for four back points to lead 12-2 with :45 left. Lee rode Spray out and carried that lead, with 1:52 in time, into the second period. After a neutral start to the second period, Lee and Spray battled through a scoreless minute. The duo wrestled the entire second period and neutral and Lee led 12-2 after two. Lee chose down to start the third period. Spray was able to control Lee for the entire period and picked up a stall point on the way. But Lee's big first period allowed the Lion to roll to the 12-3 major decision. 174: Freshman Carter Starocci (Erie, Pa.), ranked No. 8 at 174, met Wisconsin's Jared Krattiger. Starocci scored quickly, opening up a 2-1 lead in the bout's opening minute. The duo battled evenly for the next minute until Starocci got in on a high single, rolled through the Badger and forced a scramble that ended in a stalemate with :25 on the clock. Leading 2-1, Starocci chose down to start the second period. The Lion quickly escaped to a 3-1 lead and action resumed in neutral. Krattiger got hit with a stall warning but then quickly moved in behind Starocci for a takedown and a 3-3 tie. Starocci quickly escaped and upped his lead to 4-3 with :20 on the clock. Trailing 4-3, Krattiger chose down to start the third period. Starocci proceeded to dominate action from the top position, working offensive control as the clock moved down to the 1:00 mark. After action moved out of bounds at the :57 mark, Starocci needed :09 more riding time to move his riding time edge up over 1:00 and maintained control of Krattiger easily on the reset. The Nittany Lion freshman kept control of the Badger for the entire period and, with 1:48 in riding time, posted a strong 5-3 win. 184: Sophomore Aaron Brooks (Hagerstown, Md.), ranked No. 3 at 184, took on No. 10 Chris Weiler of Wisconsin in the dual's marquee match-up. Brooks wasted no time taking Weiler down for an early 2-0 lead. Weiler escaped with 2:35 on the clock to get to neutral. Brooks quickly worked into a near takedown but the action moved out of bounds and reset ensued with 1:55 on the clock. Brooks shot low and scored off the reset for a second takedown and led 4-2 at 1:30. He continued his first period dominance with a third takedown at the 1:25 mark to lead 6-3. Brooks picked up a fourth takedown before the period ended and led 8-3 after one with 1:40 in riding time. After a neutral start, Brooks controlled the middle of the mat and used a low shot that Weiler countered and nearly scored on. But action moved out of bounds and the action ensued in neutral with 1:06 left in the period. Brooks scored quickly off the reset and upped his lead to 10-3 while working his riding time up over 2:00. Brooks finished the period on top and led 10-3 with 2:27 in time after two. Brooks chose down to start the third period. He steadily worked his way to an escape :30 into the final period. Brooks finished the match with 1:56 in riding time and rolled to the 13-3 major. 197: Freshman Michael Beard (Pottstown, Pa.), ranked No. 13 nationally, made his Penn State dual meet debut against Wisconsin's Andrew Salemme. The Nittany Lion wasted no time showcasing his offense, taking Salemme down and cutting him loose for an early lead. He quickly added a second takedown and led 4-2 just over 1:00 into his first collegiate bout. Beard rolled through a low double and upped his lead to 6-2 with 1:25 left in the opening period. The Lion then locked Salemme up and rolled him for two back points to up his lead to 8-2 with :40 left on the clock. Beard finished the period off with a four-point turn and led 12-2 with 1:58 in time after one. Salemme chose neutral to start the second period. Beard countered a low shot and notched a takedown with 1:20 left to lead 14-2. Beard rolled Salemme over for two more points for a 16-2 lead, then turned him one more time to end the bout with an 18-2 tech fall at the 4:43 mark in the second period. 285: Sophomore Seth Nevills (Clovis, Calif.), ranked No. 8 at 285, took on Wisconsin's Peter Christensen. Nevills steadily worked his way to a first period takedown at the 1:55 mark to open up a 2-0 lead. Nevills controlled Christensen from the offensive position as he worked his riding time up over 1:00. The Lion sophomore continued to control the Badger for the rest of the period and led 2-0 with 1:54 in riding time after the opening period. Nevills chose down to start the second period. Christensen was able to keep offensive position deep into the second period, killing Nevills' riding time edge in the process. The Badger finished on top and Nevills led 2-0 after two. Christensen chose neutral to start the third period. Nevills quickly moved in on a low single and steadily worked his way into control of Christensen's feet for another takedown and a 4-0 lead with 1:10 on the clock. Nevills maintained control off Christensen to the :20 mark before the Badger escaped. Christensen finished the bout with a takedown but Nevills posted the 4-3 win.

True freshman A.J. Ferrari improved to 7-0 this season after two wins over the weekend (Photo/OSU Athletics) We have progressed through yet another action-packed week of college wrestling. Whether you got your fix for college wrestling by attending a dual in-person, or whether you were streaming multiple matches simultaneously from home (as I did), you likely had a fun weekend. Here are five things that caught my eye from this past weekend (Jan. 29-31) in college wrestling. A.J. Ferrari keeps rolling A biproduct of this wild and wacky COVID-influenced 2021 wrestling season has been fans getting to watch true freshman take to the mat instantly. For some freshman, they have looked as if they needed a redshirt year. Others, like A.J. Ferrari, who was a top high school recruit in the Class of 2020, have been wrestling with poise well beyond their years. In Ferrari's case, he has a perfect 7-0 record, with five bonus-point victories. He has looked very much in control in every match thus far. It always impresses me to see a young guy (no matter how highly rated of a prep prospect he was) excel at an upper weight. Ferrari has done just that so far in 2021. (The entire Oklahoma State team has for that matter.) However, it should be very exciting to see how he finishes at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, March 6-7. The 197-pound weight class is one of the deeper weights in that conference. I'm very excited to see how these Cowboy freshmen handle postseason play in general. Penn State returned to the mat Finally, the Nittany Lion grapplers safely returned the mat and competed against someone not also wearing Penn State singlet. Penn State emerged from its tri-meet at Welsh-Ryan Arena, in Evanston, Illinois, with a 24-15 win over Indiana and a 29-13 victory over host Northwestern. While they won both duals, they didn't do so as effortlessly as we are used to. PSU lacked the typical dominance we have grown accustomed to during the Cael Sanderson era. In fact, two ranked PSU grapplers suffered losses in the opening match against Indiana. But it's still a bit too early for a true evaluation, all things considered: The Blue and White had to forfeit in the 125-pound class as no wrestler on the roster at that weight was "medically cleared." Similarly, some projected upperweight starters (Michael Beard and Greg Kerkvliet) weren't in action; Additionally, there was some rust as is common in early-season bouts. Lastly, PSU has a very inexperienced starting lineup. While some individual performances may not have gone as expected, it's still very early. Penn State just needs more live reps. But it sure is good to have them back. Big bounce-back performances for Nino Bonaccorsi and Tony Cassioppi As I discussed last week, we saw multiple wrestlers ranked in the top five fall victim to an upset. Then-No. 5 Nino Bonaccorsi of Pitt lost handily, 6-1, to then-unranked true freshman Isaac Trumble of NC State, who was making his college dual debut. Similarly, No. 3 Tony Cassioppi was beaten soundly by No. 1 Gable Steveson, in a 14-6 decision. Clearly, Trumble and Stevson are solid wrestlers. I was more so surprised by how lopsided these respective contests were last weekend. This weekend proved that both Bonaccorsi and Cassioppi had short memories and are not shaken by their recent stumbles. Both the Pitt Panther and the Iowa Hawkeye were able to record marquee individual wins this weekend. Bonaccorsi took out No. 3 Jay Aiello (Virginia), 7-5. For Aiello, the loss ended a streak of winning 24 straight bouts in dual competition. The Chantilly, Virginia product went 14-0 last season and won seven straight matches to end the 2019 campaign. He has won 18 consecutive matches overall dating back to the finals of the Midlands Championships last season. Cassioppi got back to his winning ways with a second-period fall over No. 6 Luke Luffman (Illinois), who was 4-0 prior to the loss. The quartet of Lees within the Big Ten were 7-0 this weekend For the third straight week, Iowa's Spencer Lee looked unbeatable. He now has three first period falls in as many matches. The latest one was a fall at the 2:27 mark of the match over No. 15 Justin Cardani of Illinois. Penn State's No. 2 Nick Lee cruised to a 16-1 technical in his season opener against Indiana's Cayden Rooks. He followed that up with a strong 10-6 win over Northwestern's Frankie Tal-Shahar in his final match of the weekend. Nick Lee's brother, redshirt freshman, No. 6 Joe Lee, who made his varsity debut this weekend for those same Nittany Lions, went 2-0, with a pair of wins by decision, at 165 pounds, in his first weekend as college starter. Minnesota's No. 6 Brayton Lee added two wins by decision to his resume this weekend. First, he defeated Purdue's No. 7 Kendall Coleman via a close 3-2 decision. Then, he followed that up with a 10-7 win over Robert Kanniard of Rutgers. Brayton improves to 5-1 on the year. Brody Teske is settling in nicely at Northern Iowa It seems as though transferring has become commonplace in college athletics. Wrestling is no exception. Brady Teske was one of many elite high school prospects to hit the transfer portal in recent years. Teske, a former Penn State lightweight, brought four Iowa state titles and a more than 170 career wins with him to Happy Valley in 2018. However, Teske quickly realized Pennsylvania wasn't the place for him. He went back home to Iowa and enrolled in UNI. In this, his redshirt sophomore season, his first full season as a starter, he is off to a fast 6-0 record, earning him national recognition by every major ranking outlet. Sunday, Teske got the biggest win of his UNI career: a 6-0 shutout of No. 13 Trevor Mastrogiovanni. Teske controlled the entire match and refused to let Mastrogiovanni score. In the second period, Mastrogiovanni picked the bottom position and Teske rode out the entire period and earned a four-point near fall to take a 4-0 lead after two. He earned an escape and ride time to earn the 6-0 win. Teske remains undefeated on the season with a 6-0 record and a 5-0 mark in duals.

Wisconsin will host Penn State this Tuesday at 4 p.m. CT at the UW Field House. The Badgers were originally schedule to wrestle at Michigan in a tri-meet with Penn State next Sunday, Feb. 7. The dual with Michigan has been postponed and the match with Penn State rescheduled earlier to this Tuesday. Streaming information will be shared as it's made available. As announced earlier, no fans will be allowed in the UW Field House for home matches this season.

BOONE, N.C. -- Dramatic takedowns at the beginning and end of App State's dual with Chattanooga set the stage for a SoCon sweep Sunday in Varsity Gym. The Mountaineers opened Senior Day with a 20-13 victory to hand the Mocs their first league loss, and App State capped the tri-meet with a 54-0 shutout of Presbyterian. Codi Russell, Jonathan Millner, Cody Bond, Will Formato, Thomas Flitz and Michael Burchell enjoyed 2-0 days as the Mountaineers (5-2, 5-1) followed a tight win against a longtime rival with their third shutout in six SoCon duals this season. They recorded five pins and nine wins with bonus points in that matchup. In a showdown between top-25 wrestlers at 125 pounds to open the tri-meet, Russell won 4-3 against Fabian Gutierrez by erasing a 3-2 deficit on a takedown with 53 seconds left and preventing an escape the rest of the way despite several close calls. Millner's major decision, Bond's one-point overtime win, Formato's 6-1 decision and Flitz's major decision gave App State a 17-6 lead with three matches remaining, but the Mountaineers still had work to do in the finale against Chattanooga (7-3, 5-1) after a major decision and a 12-5 victory that narrowly missed being a major decision trimmed the Mocs' deficit to 17-13. They needed a bonus-point win in the heavyweight division to possibly snatch away a team victory, but Burchell broke a 1-1 tie on a takedown with 1:31 left in his 4-1 decision against Grayson Walthall. After Chattanooga won all its matches against Presbyterian, the Mountaineers benefited from pins by Russell, Anthony Brito, Millner, Flitz and Burchell against the Blue Hose. Julian Gorring and Mason Fiscella also picked up six points apiece with wins by forfeit, Formato improved to 11-1 with a tech fall, Bond added a major decision and true freshman Tyler Kellison won a 9-6 decision at 133 pounds in his first career dual start. WEST POINT, N.Y. -- After starting the afternoon with a tough one-point loss at 125lbs, the Black Knights climbed their way back to victory in a dominant 26-8 showing against Bucknell on Sunday. Freshman Mark Montgomery was the driving force of the Black Knights momentum at 133lbs, fighting back from a 4-2 deficit in the second period to bring home a 6-4 victory in the final seconds. Montgomery set the stage for three more victories to come at 141, 149 and 157. Lane Peters stepped up to the plate at 141lbs, battling to a 3-2 decision. P.J. Ogunsanya upped the ante at 149lbs, putting up a six-point victory against Matt Kolonid, 11-5. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The 22nd-ranked Oklahoma wrestling team earned an unblemished 3-0 record at the Little Rock quad-dual after defeating Little Rock, South Dakota State and No. 21 Stanford in dual action. The Sooners were especially good at the heavier weights, compiling a 12-3 record on the day at 174-285. "It was a good day of wrestling for us, any time you can get three wins it is a good day," head coach Lou Rosselli said after improving to 5-3 in 2021. "I think that Stanford is a pretty good team, South Dakota State is always tough and Little Rock has some guys that can present some challenges, so we are happy to get out of here with three victories. Today will help create some momentum as we start to look to Bedlam next Sunday." After narrowly dropping the first match of the dual with Big 12-foe South Dakota State, 7-6, the Sooners (5-3, 2-2 Big 12) used Tony Madrigal's pin at 133 to take a lead that they wouldn't surrender. Following the oss at 125, the Sooners wouldn't surrender a takedown on the scorecard until the match at 165. The win moved Oklahoma back to .500 in conference play heading into the Bedlam showdown on Feb. 7 in Norman. The Sooners dropped their first two bouts in the dual vs. Little Rock but won the final eight bouts, including five by tech fall to dominate the Trojans 34-6. The five tech falls are the most for an Oklahoma team since Rosselli arrived in Norman in 2016, beating the previous high of four, set in a 53-0 drubbing of Sacred Heart in 2017. The San Francisco State transfer's win would jumpstart the Sooners' comeback that saw Rosselli's team win out and knock off the Cardinal. "If I had to give a game ball to anyone, it would be Troy," Rosselli said. "Here is a guy who didn't know he was going to be in the starting lineup until we called on him, and he goes and gets a win vs. Little Rock and then pins the guy in the Stanford dual. That pin was huge for us; we were down 12-3 at that time and his pin put us back in the fight and gave us momentum. I'm really proud of him today." In the day's first bout at 165, Jake Stiles fell 22-11 to SDSU's Colten Carlson. He won via 16-1 tech fall over LR's Dylan Johnson and 5-1 over Stanford's Haydn Maley to help deliver the Oklahoma upset. A week after going toe-to-toe with two of the country's best, No. 24 Josh Heindselman proved that he deserved his spot in the rankings by going 3-0 on the day and defeating No. 9 Nathan Traxler (STAN) via 10-5 to finish off the Sooners' victory. "Josh is just such a tough kid who finds ways to win," Rossell said. "There are some things we can improve on the mat, but I know that when that kid steps out onto the mat I know that he is going to give every ounce he has to this team and the Sooners. That's why I like watching him wrestle so much, it's because he goes out there and gives it his all, which is what I want to see." Following the duals, a number of Sooners competed in extra matches for NCAA-qualifying purposes. The Nebraska wrestling team ended its 2021 home slate in dramatic fashion, winning the final two matches against Wisconsin to earn a 21-15 win on Sunday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers (4-1, 4-1 Big Ten) finish undefeated at home for the first time since the 2007-08 season during which the team also hosted just four matches. With Nebraska trailing the Badgers (1-3, 1-3 Big Ten) 13-15, Eric Schultz kick started the comeback with a 30-13 technical fall over Andrew Salemme at 197 pounds. The senior dominated the match, recording 14 takedowns in 5:55 for his tenth technical fall of his career. Christian Lance sealed the deal at heavyweight with a 4-2 sudden victory walk-off win over Trent Hillger. After a scoreless third period with the match tied at two, Lance went on to score the deciding takedown and secure the team victory for Nebraska. Picking up another statement win for the Huskers was Peyton Robb at 165 pounds. The sophomore pinned Joshua Otto in 1:32 for his first fall of the season and brought Nebraska within two of the Badgers. Mikey Labriola followed at 174 pounds, defeating Jared Krattiger by 10-4 decision to put the Huskers back in the lead. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Topping its first ranked opponent since the 2018-19 season, the West Virginia University wrestling team took down No. 17 Northern Colorado in a 25-11 contest on Sunday afternoon, inside the WVU Coliseum, in Morgantown. Trailing 8-0 to start the match, West Virginia won seven of the last eight bouts to move to 5-2 on the year and 1-1 in Big 12 action. WVU also topped its four-match win total from 2019 and 2020 - coach Tim Flynn's first two seasons at the helm of the Mountaineer wrestling program. No. 1 Noah Adams, a redshirt junior, showed how dominant he could be by earning a 13-1 major decision over No. 16 Jacob Seely to put the Mountaineers on the board. The Coal City, West Virginia, native put on a clinic in the second period, scoring a takedown and four nearfall points for the 9-1 advantage. Adams scored his third takedown in the final frame and forced two stall calls for the extra point. He also accumulated over five minutes of riding time at the end of regulation, which put the final score at 13-1. The 197-pound grappler owns a pair of bonus victories this season and has outscored his opponents 59-15. With the win, Adams improves to 7-0 on the year and extends his win streak to 39, which dates back to Nov. 3, 2019. "I thought he was dominant, and that's what we are trying to get him to do," Flynn said. "We want him to use all his weapons. He was shooting. He was attacking the legs. He was using an under hook. He looked good." Redshirt freshman Michael Wolfgram (HWT) and redshirt junior Killian Cardinale (125) each won by decision in their respective bouts, as West Virginia took a 10-8 lead with five bouts remaining. Minnesota earned its 12th straight win against the Boilermakers and improved to 5-0 all-time against the Scarlet Knights. Five Gophers went 2-0 on the day including sophomore Patrick McKee and senior Owen Webster. Ranked ninth in the country at 125 pounds, McKee upset No. 6 Devin Schroder of Purdue by a score of 5-4. He followed that with a pin of No. 15 Nic Aguilar of Rutgers. At 184 pounds, Webster upset a pair of ranked opponents. COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- No. 6 Ohio State capped an undefeated weekend with a dominating 41-0 win at Maryland on Sunday afternoon inside the Comcast Center. The Buckeyes are now 4-1 on the season and will have a week to prepare for a huge Sunday in West Lafayette, Ind., where they will take on No. 1 Iowa and No. 18 Purdue. Sunday was the best performance of the season so far for the Buckeyes who notched three falls and two major decisions on the afternoon. This is just the fourth time in program history Ohio State has blanked a Big Ten opponent and the first since 1979. Malik Heinselman opened the day with his first pin of season, touching Zach Spence's shoulders to the mat a minute into the second period. Jordan Decatur and freshman Anthony Echemendia each followed with wins to push the team lead to 12-0. Sammy Sasso notched his second pin fall of the season in the 149-pound match, pinning Hunter Baxter at 5:31. Sasso stays undefeated on the year at 4-0. Elijah Cleary got back in the win column as he outlasted Michael Doetsch 4-3 in the 157-pound match. Ethan Smith and Kaleb Romero than both claimed major decisions to give the Buckeyes a 29-0 lead. Rocky Jordan provided the dramatics in the 184-pound match. With the score tied 2-2 late in the third period, Jordan made a nice roll and got a two-point reversal with just :03 seconds left to steal a 4-2 victory over Maryland captain Kyle Cochran. The 197-pound match was another good one between Chase Singletary and Maryland's Jaron Smith. Neither wrestler scored in the first two periods, but Singletary picked up two minutes of riding time in the second period. Smith then scored two near-fall points midway through the third period to take a 2-0 lead. Singletary was able to escape with less than :20 seconds remaining to even the match and send it to overtime. In the first sudden victory session, Singletary was able to score the lone takedown of the bout to win the match 4-2. The heavyweight match wasn't as dramatic as Tate Orndorff continued his good run as of late, pinning Garrett Kappes in the second period. In the extra matches, Dylan D'Emilio continued the Buckeye dominance with a tech fall, 19-1, over Nathan Porter. Freshman Bryce Hepner won his second consecutive match via fall, pinning Garrett Fisk in just 33 seconds. BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh wrestling team capped a 2-0 weekend at home with a dominant performance in a 46-0 blanking of LIU Sunday inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The Mountain Hawks recorded four falls and added three additional bonus point victories on the way to their first shutout in nearly five years. Lehigh had a 28-0 edge in takedowns and allowed just two offensive points, a reversal in the final bout of the dual. Four Mountain Hawks posted their first career victories in the brown and white while two others won for the first time in dual competition. The win evens the Mountain Hawks' season record at 2-2. LIU falls to 1-3. Prior to Sunday, the last Lehigh win by shutout was a 54-0 triumph over Bloomsburg on Feb. 14, 2016. The dual began at 165 where true freshman Thayne Lawrence downed Ryan Ferro 3-1 for his first career victory. Lawrence rode out the second period and escaped to open the third, plus riding time for the scoring in his favor. Another true freshman, Connor Herceg, started the pin party with a third period fall over Tom DiGennaro at 174. Herceg built a 13-2 third period lead when he used a cradle to stuck DiGennaro at 5:23, putting Lehigh up 9-0. JT Davis continued the run of true freshmen to start the dual and delivered a 10-1 major decision over Dan Shafran at 184 for his first career dual meet win. The three true freshmen then turned things over to fifth-year seniors Jake Jakobsen and Jordan Wood, who posted back-to-back falls to put the Mountain Hawks up 25-0 at the halfway point. Jakobsen scored a takedown right into a cradle to pin T.J. Franden in 1:07 at 197 and then Wood followed with his second fall of the weekend, needing just 31 seconds to pin Tim Nagosky at 285. The second half of the dual began with Lehigh's fourth fall. True freshman Sheldon Seymour picked up his first career victory, pinning Brandon Mercado in 1:44. Seymour had built an 8-1 lead behind two takedowns and a four point near fall prior to the pin. Frinzi secured the match-ending takedown with just 10 seconds remaining in the bout. There were two extra matches wrestled on Sunday with Lehigh wrestlers winning both by first period fall. At 157 freshman Manzona Bryant pinned Adam Barker in 54 seconds and at 184 freshman Caden Wright picked up a 53 second fall against Joe Lopresti. The Mountain Hawks are back home for three duals next weekend. OWA CITY, Iowa -- The top-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team used three pins and three major decisions to dismantle No. 9 Illinois on Sunday, 36-6, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Wrestling insertIowa outscored the Illini 71-29 in match points, held a 23-5 advantage in takedowns, and earned the largest margin of victory in the series since 2003 (40-4). Iowa extended its Big Ten winning streak to 21 duals and its home winning streak to 18. The Hawkeyes got falls from Spencer Lee, Jaydin Eierman and Tony Cassioppi, and major decisions from Austin DeSanto, Kaleb Young and Michael Kemerer. “I think you are seeing a lot of bonus points and that is a tribute to our guys,” said Iowa head coach Tom Brands. “The philosophy has been there. We had three falls today. Those are important. They send a message.” For the third time in as many duals this season, Lee led off with a first-period fall, again against a ranked opponent at 125. He scored a takedown nine seconds after the whistle and earned a pair of nearfall points before eventually settling in for the fall in two minutes, 27 seconds. DeSanto piled up six takedowns to earn an 18-6 major at 133, and Eierman, who racked up 38 falls in three seasons at Missouri, registered his first as a Hawkeye. AMES, Iowa -- The fifth-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling team moved to 7-0 on the season, collecting two ranked wins in road duals against Big 12 foes No. 16 Northern Iowa and No. 13 Iowa State. The Cowboys began their day in Cedar Falls where they defeated No. 16 Northern Iowa, 20-12, to capture their first of two wins on the day before heading to Ames for a 16-15 win over No. 13 Iowa State. Oklahoma State was led by back-to-back major decisions from No. 12 Wyatt Sheets and No. 4 Travis Wittlake. In his first dual match of the season, Sheets looked sharp defeating UNI's Cayd Lara 15-4. Leading 5-4 heading into the third period, he got a quick escape and followed with a takedown of Lara, a two-point near fall and a four-point turn, before adding riding time to close the match with 10 straight points. Wittlake kept the pressure on the Panthers with his 12-4 major decision over Pat Schoenfelder. The sophomore stayed unbeaten and picked up his third bonus-point victory in six matches on the season. Dusty Hone got the scoring started for the Cowboys with a hard-fought 4-2 win at 141 pounds. Starting with Hone, OSU won five straight matches, including wins from No. 4 Boo Lewallen and No. 17 Dustin Plott, who remain undefeated on the season. It wasn't until the 197-pound match when AJ Ferrari defeated Keegan Moore 10-4 that the No. 5 Cowboys clinched the dual. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Fresh off a 42-3 win in Durham Friday night, Virginia Tech wrestling made it two in a row with a 23-9 win over North Carolina Saturday afternoon, stopping a two-match losing streak against the Tar Heels. The No. 8 Hokies (7-0, 3-0 ACC) led the No. 14 Tar Heels (2-2, 1-2 ACC) 11-6 after five matches, but then blew the dual open, winning the last four of five, including a top-10 upset win for Dakota Howard at 174 pounds. Tech passed its first ranked test of the season after going 5-3 against ranked opponents a season ago. MATCH HIGHLIGHTS Just like in the dual last week vs. Virginia, No. 10 Sam Latona and No. 8 Korbin Myers kicked off the dual with back-to-back bonus-point wins at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively. Latona got an 18-7 major decision over Will Guida, while Myers took down No. 11 Jaime Hernandez 11-2. Myers now has major decisions over the 11th and 12th ranked 133-pound wrestlers. With Tech holding on to a slim 8-6 lead, Connor Brady added three points with a 6-1 decision over Josh McClure to give the Hokies breathing room heading into the intermission. Leading 3-1 in the third, Brady was able to secure a takedown and hang on for the riding time point to improve to 4-3 on the season. No. 1 Mekhi Lewis kept his collegiate winning streak alive Saturday against No. 8 Kennedy Monday, coming away with a 4-3 decision that went down to the wire. Lewis, up 3-1, gave up a late takedown but was able to escape and hold off Monday to come away with three more team points. Lewis has now won 26 straight matches. Dakota Howard could not have picked a better time for his first win of the season. Matched up with the No. 9 174-pounder in the country in Devin Kane, Howard pulled off the biggest win of his career with an 8-6 decision. The redshirt sophomore was able to score a takedown off a scramble late in the third period and hang on for the top-10 upset. After taking a forfeit win Friday night, No. 2 Hunter Bolen returned to action Saturday and defeated No. 15 Clay Lautt in a 9-5 decision. The redshirt junior added his first ranked win of the season to his resume which includes a 6-0 season record. Bolen has now outscored his opponents 24-0, registering two bonus-point wins. CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Campbell extended its Southern Conference dual winning streak to 14 with wins over The Citadel and Davidson Saturday at McAlister Field House. The Camels (6-1, 5-0 SoCon) topped The Citadel (4-3, 3-2 SoCon) 34-7 to open the day's action, then blanked Davidson (1-4, 1-4 SoCon) 45-0 for their second shutout win of the year. Campbell jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never trailed against The Citadel. Austin Murphy led off with a decision at 174, and after a Celeb Hopkins decision, Levi Hopkins' pin at 197 pounds put CU ahead 12-0. Entering the lineup for the first time this season, Spencer Leonhardt notched a fall at 141 pounds. Benjamin Barton also picked up a major decision at 157. Against the Wildcats, Campbell earned bonus points at five weight classes, including pins for Caleb Hopkins (184) and Bilal Bailey (165), a Benjamin Barton tech fall (157), a major decision for Murphy (174) and a forfeit at 125. Laramie, Wyo. -- The Wyoming wrestling team picked up their first conference win of the season Saturday night against Air Force inside the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowboys won seven of the ten matches on their way to a 22-9 victory. "I saw some good things in the additional matches, saw some guys taking some things we have been working in practice and applying them in their matches." Head Coach Mark Branch Said. "In the dual I was really proud of Stephen Buchanan. He was really looking to dominate tonight and it showed. Overall it was a good dual win." After dropping the first two matches of the dual No.16 Jacob Wright would put the pokes on the board. Wright scored a takedown early in the second and would add on two more takedowns in the third to beat Parker Simington (AF), 8-3. At 165 No.24 Cole Moody kept it rolling for the Cowboys. Moody had a very efficient performance controlling Vincent Dolce (AF) from the top position on his way to a 4-1 win. It would be another controlling performance at 174 pounds as No.11 Hayden Hastings shutout No.31 Cody Suratt. Hastings picked up a reversal in the second and from there would ride out his opponent the rest of the match, winning 3-0. No.18 Tate Samuelson made it two shutout victories in a row after beating Sam Wolf (AF) 6-0. Samuelson would earn his shutout behind an escape and takedown and would add on stalling and riding time points. The only bonus point victory on the night would come from No.15 Stephen Buchanan at 197 pounds. Buchanan jumped all over Kayne Hutchinson (AF) early scoring two takedowns in the first 20 seconds. From there he would tack on three more takedowns on his way to securing a 16-3 victory. At Heavyweight No.11 Brian Andrews and No.26 Wyatt Hendrickson would have a very tight match. It would be all Andrews early as he picked up two quick takedowns. In the third Hendrickson would come storming back but Andrews held on and walked away with the 10-9 victory. In the marquee and final match of the dual it was No.22 Job Greenwood squaring off against No.15 Jared Van Vleet. The two grapplers would trade takedowns and escapes and were tied at four going into the third. In dramatic fashion Greenwood would lock up a body lock with 10 seconds to go and secure the go-ahead takedown to upset No.15 Van Vleet. The Cowboys also hosted a total of 13 additional individual matches against Air Force on the day. The Cowboys would win 10 of those 13 matches highlighted by Wright, Moody and Buchanan all going 2-0. RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Owen Pentz recorded a pair of victories, including a pin in the first period of his first collegiate match, to help propel the North Dakota State wrestling team to a pair of victories against Fresno State 29-15 and California Baptist 30-6 on Saturday, Jan. 30th, in the Van Dyne Gym. Pentz, the freshman transfer from Fresno State, made quick work in his first match at 197 pounds defeating his former school in 2 minutes, 9 seconds. In his second bout against CBU, Pentz built a 6-0 first period lead and went on to win 10-5, giving the Bison a commanding lead with both victories. NDSU (4-2) won six of 10 matches against Fresno State, including a pin by Brandon Metz at 2:11 to end the match. It was the first pin of the season for Metz and the 12th of his career. After three straight victories to start the match for Fresno State, 149 Jaden Van Maanen put the Bison on the board with a 3-0 victory. No. 13-ranked 157 Jared Franek kept it rolling winning by 15-4 major decision to bring the Bison within five. Following Franek's win at 157, the Bison took the lead with a win by forfeit at 165 followed by 174 Riley Habisch recording his first victory as a Bison, a 12-4 major decision. The Bulldogs claimed a victory at 184 before Pentz and Metz put the match away with back-to-back pins. The Bison won eight of 10 bouts against CBU, including two tech falls and three major decisions to rout the Lancers. After falling behind 3-0 to start the match, the Bison charged forward on the strength of six straight victories to help seal the victory. Kellyn March got the scoring started winning by tech fall at 133 and Dylan Droegemueller added a 13-6 decision at 141 pounds to to give the Bison momentum. Van Maanen kept it rolling with a 4-0 decision before Franek put on a clinic at 157 pounds winning by tech fall, 20-4. Weber and Habisch added major decisions to put the match out of reach. The 24th-ranked Navy wrestling team (3-1, 1-0 EIWA) opened its dual Saturday evening against Cleveland State (0-2, 0-0 Mid-American) with a 4-2 win by senior 125-pound Logan Treaster and never looked back, as the Mids won all 10 bouts en route to a 37-0 victory over the visiting Vikings at Alumni Hall. It was Navy's first shutout since blanking George Mason 43-0 on Feb. 6, 2018. "It a nice win, a nice shutout," said first-year Navy head coach Cary Kolat, whose Mids broke into the national rankings this week for the first time since 2017. "We've got more to do. We had some team goals coming into this dual that we wanted to accomplish technically on the mat with each guy. I think we missed the mark on some of that stuff, so we've gotta continue to keep trying to improve on that. But any time Navy gets a win, it's a nice day." The Highlights • The Midshipmen are now 3-1 on the year, including 2-1 at home. After opening the season missing three starters and dropping a 22-14 decision to then-#14 Pitt, Navy has won three-straight matches and has outscored those three opponents 99-12 (Clarion 41-3, Lehigh 21-9, Cleveland State 37-0). • Saturday's dual marked the fifth meeting between the two programs in a series that dates back to 1977. • Cleveland State leads the series 3-2, however, Navy has won two in a row against the Vikings. • Saturday's dual victory also marked the first by the Mids at home in the series, as Cleveland State won the first-two duals in the series (1977, '78) in Annapolis. • Navy won three bonus-point matches with nationally-ranked wrestlers Cody Trybus (141) and Jacob Koser (197) winning by fall, while two-time defending EIWA champion Tanner Skidgel scoring a major decision in his bout. • Six of the remaining seven victories were by three points or fewer, including a 5-3 victory by freshman David Key (184) in sudden victory. • Seeing action for the first time since the opener against Pitt, Val Park (157) earned his first-career dual victory. With a 4-2 lead in hand, Park gave up a takedown with 15 seconds left in his match against Daniel Patten to level the score. Patten, however, was called for locked hands with just three seconds remaining and Park was awarded what would be the match-winning point. • Tanner Skidgel (165) took down Caleb Cass, wrestling up a weight class, just five seconds into the dual and was ridden out the remainder of the period. Skidgel went on to record five takedowns and built up over five minutes of riding time en route to a 14-2 victory. • Dean Caravela's match (174) with Anthony Rice featured 3 lead changes, three ties and 23 combined points before the Navy senior closed out the match with a 13-10 win. With the match knotted at 10 apiece, Caravela scored the match-winning takedown with 30 seconds to go and added a point for riding time. • David Key (184) found himself down two points with just under a minute remaining when he trimmed the deficit to one with an escape with exactly 30 seconds to go. He was awarded the match-tying point when his foe, DeAndre Nassar, was called for locked hands with 23 seconds left. Key went on to score the match-winning takedown with just three seconds remaining in the one-minute sudden victory frame. • In just his fourth-career dual appearance and second of the season, junior Riley Smith (285) earned his first-career dual win. He scored the match-winning takedown against John Kelbly with just 12 seconds left in the dual for the 3-2 victory. • Cody Trybus (141) and Casey Cobb (149) improved to 4-0 in dual action this season, while David Key (184) and Andrew Cerniglia (175, who did not wrestle against Cleveland State) are also undefeated at 3-0. • Additionally, the two programs engaged in 19 "extra matches" which will count towards each individual's record this season. This program should consistently be a top-10 program. It has the ability to do it. It sits in the right geographical location in the United States to get kids. Being ranked, that's great, but when we get to the NCAA Championship, then we will see where it all shakes out." UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lions (2-0, 2-0 B1G), ranked No. 3 in the latest InterMat Tournament Power Index, routed host Northwestern (1-4 1-4 B1G) in the final dual of a Big Ten tri-meet in NU's Welsh-Ryan Arena. Penn State won seven bouts on its way to a 29-13 road victory. The dual closed out the event hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. The dual began at 125 where Penn State did not have any competitors cleared to compete this weekend. Northwestern's No. 8 Michael DeAugustino picked up the forfeit victory to give the Wildcats a 6-0 lead out of the gates. Penn State posted a lopsided 35-8 advantage in takedowns. The Nittany Lions won seven of the ten bouts. Penn State picked up eight bonus points off a pin (Bravo-Young), two tech falls (Brooks, Nevills) and a major (Nick Lee). Nine extra matches were conducted after the dual meet. This year, with condensed schedules, these extra matches, while not counting towards dual meet scores, are official varsity bouts and count towards NCAA competition minimums. Berge notched a quick takedown and cut Mayfield loose to lead 2-1 a minute into the bout. The Lion then worked through another short scramble for a second takedown and a 4-1 lead with 1:25 on the clock. Berge then controlled the action in order to build his riding time edge up over 1:00. Berge kept Mayfield down to the :40 mark before the Wildcat escaped. Berge led 4-2 after the opening period and chose down to start the second. Berge quickly escaped and then turned into Mayfield for another takedown and a 7-3 lead. Berge picked up a fourth takedown to up his lead to 9-3 with :50 on the clock, cut Mayfield and finished off the period with a final takedown to lead 11-4 with 1:56 in riding time after two periods. Mayfield chose down to start the third period and escaped to an 11-5 score. With riding time clinched, Berge began looking for bonus points. The Lion junior fought off a solid Mayfield shot at the :15 mark and tried to roll through for a counter takedown but the Wildcat was able to get the takedown. Lee notched a takedown just :30 into the bout and opened up a 2-0 lead. Lee worked for over 1:00, looking for a turn but picked up a stall in the process of trying to turn him. Lee continued to work from the offensive position but Ferrante reversed the Lion. Lee immediately reversed Ferrante and picked up a penalty point as the period wound down to lead 5-3 with 2:13 in riding time after one. Ferrante chose down to start the second period and quickly took Lee down to tie the bout a 5-5 at the 1:20 mark. Ferrante controlled the action from the top position and killed Lee's riding time advantage, then picked up a stall point and led 6-5 after two periods. Lee chose neutral to start the third period. Ferrante shot low on a single leg and Lee countered to nearly score with 1:40 left. Ferrante seemed to fight off the counter but Lee continued to work and got the go-ahead takedown with 1:05 left to lead 7-6. Lee then worked his riding time edge back up over 1:00 with a strong ride. But Fisher was able to force a stalemate and the bout moved to the second period scoreless. Starocci chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 1-0 lead. Starocci notched a takedown with :55 left and took a 3-0 lead and then, while giving up a stall warning, maintained control of Fisher for the remainder of the period to lead 3-0 with 1:04 in riding time. Brooks added one more takedown and rode Jessen out to lead 10-4 with 3:09 in time after two. Brooks chose neutral to start the third period and quickly took Jessen down for a 12-4 lead. With a riding time point clinched, Brooks rolled Jessen over to his back, picked up the four count and reset for a 16-4 lead. Brooks then added another two-point turn. He cut Jessen loose, took him down and finished on top. Davison was able to maintain control of Ball for the remainder of the period after the second takedown and led 4-1 with 1:36 in riding time after one. Davison chose down to start the second period, quickly escaped and then took Ball down to lead 7-1 with 1:30 on the clock. Davis kept control of the Lion freshman until the 1:00 mark. Ball forced a scramble that nearly ended in a takedown but Davison fought off the move and force a stalemate with :30 on the clock. Ball got in on a low single but Davison countered for another takedown and led 9-2 after two. Ball chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 9-3 deficit. Ball worked the edge of the mat for his first takedown but Davison was able to hold off his efforts as the clock hit 1:00. Davison notched a fifth takedown to open up an 11-3 lead with :47 left. Davison rode Ball out and, with 3:18 in riding time, posted the 12-3 major. 285: Sophomore Seth Nevills (Clovis, Calif.) battled Brendan Devine at 285. Nevills took Devine down quickly for a fast 2-0 lead. The Lion sophomore then dominated action on top, looking for a chance to turn Devine for another pin. Nevills picked up four nearfall points and opened up a 6-1 lead after cutting Devine loose. He then took Devine down again and led 8-2. A third takedown gave Nevills a 10-3 lead after another Devine escape. Nevills added three more takedowns in the final :40 and led 16-5 after one period. Devine chose down to start the second period and Nevills cut him loose. Nevills quickly took Devine down, cut him loose, took him down and cut him loose once more to lead 20-8 with 1:05 left. He added another takedown at the :45 mark. He added another takedown and cut, then finished the bout off with a final takedown at the :02 mark to post a 24-9 technical fall at the 4:58 mark.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Lehigh sent out first or second year wrestlers in seven of their first eight bouts Saturday against No. 25 Binghamton but fifth-year seniors Jake Jakobsen and Jordan Wood stepped up when it mattered most, closing the dual with a major decision and fall, respectively, to lead the Mountain Hawks to a 19-16 win over the Bearcats inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Trailing by three heading into the final bout, Wood, back on the roster after initially planning an Olympic deferral, pinned Cory Day in the third period to lead Lehigh (1-2) to its first victory of the season. The Mountain Hawks trailed 16-9 after eight matches before Jakobsen won a 10-0 major decision over Sam DePrez at 197, to bring Lehigh within 16-13 prior to Wood's heroics. The dual began as a back-and-forth affair with neither team leading by more than three points through the first seven bouts. An 8-2 decision for Micah Roes over freshman Sheldon Seymour at 125 staked the Bearcats to a 3-0 lead but back to back wins by third-year sophomore Mitch Polito at 133 and deferred freshman Malyke Hines wrestling up a weight class at 141 put Lehigh in front 6-3. Polito scored a takedown in each period and added 1:49 of riding time advantage to win in his first career dual meet appearance 8-3 over Anthony Sobotker. Hines bumped up to face 18th-ranked Zack Trampe and won 8-7 without the benefit of a takedown. Trampe scored the initial takedown before Hines worked into a Petersen roll position for a reversal and two-near fall and led 4-3 after one period. The bout was tied 5-5 after two periods with Hines reversing early in the third to take a 7-5 lead. EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The Northern Illinois University wrestling team swept its three duals at the Mid-American Conference Quad hosted by SIUE on Saturday. "The guys were focused and aggressive," said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. "We were working to improve in all positions and score bonus when possible. That's the competitive fire we want. It was a good day, but we've got improvements to make as we head into our next match." The Huskies defeated Clarion, Buffalo and SIUE to improve to 6-2 on the season and 5-2 in MAC action. Of NIU's 30 bouts, 12 gave the Huskies bonus points. Bryce West, Izzak Olejnik, Mason Kauffman, Brit Wislon and Max Ihry each went 3-0 on the afternoon. NIU opened the day with a dominating 35-3 victory over Clarion, winning the first eight matches. Following Lucian Brink's win at 125, West set the tone for the day with an 18-3 tech fall win at 133. Following wins by Caleb Brooks, Jaivon Jones and Anthony Gibson, Olejnik scored his first of two pins on the afternoon at 165. Major decision wins by Wilson and Ihry closed out the match for the Huskies over the Golden Eagles. The Huskies got off to a slow start against Buffalo, dropping two of the first three bouts before winning the final seven bouts of the match and defeating the Bulls, 30-7. SIUE, looking to avenge a 19-16 setback to NIU on the opening weekend, came out strong winning three of the first five bouts to open a 10-9 lead. However, the Huskies turned it on in the second half of the match. Olejnik, Wilson and Braun all won their contests by major decision, while Mason Kauffman and Ihry battled to 3-2 and 3-1 victories, respectively, to give NIU a 27-10 win and complete the sweep. With No. 13 Michael Beard (Pottstown, Pa.) not competing this weekend, Levko Higgins (Palmyra, Pa.) made his Lion debut at 197 and dropped a 10-3 decision to Nick Willham. Willham's victory cut Penn State's lead to 18-15. Sophomore Seth Nevills (Clovis, Calif.) closed out the dual with a bang at 285. The Lion big man pinned IU's Rudy Streck at the 1:14 mark to cement Penn State's victory, getting the quick fall and finalizing a 24-15 win for the Nittany Lions. Penn State posted a 21-8 edge in takedowns in the bout. The Nittany Lions won six of ten bouts and picked up six bonus points off a pin (Nevills), a tech fall (Nick Lee) and a major (Brooks). Indiana had three bonus points off the forfeit at 125. Seven extra matches were conducted during the dual meet on a separate mat. This year, with condensed schedules, these extra matches, while not counting towards dual meet scores, are official varsity bouts and count towards NCAA competition minimums. Starocci opened up the extra bouts with an 18-1 tech fall over Robert Detars at the 2:37 mark, giving the Lion freshman a 1-1 mark on the day. True freshman Beau Bartlett (Tempe, Ariz.) made his collegiate debut in the extra bouts, pinning Jacob Moran in just 1:48 at 141. Luke Gardner (Pottsville, Pa.) pinned Jonathan Kervin at the 0:56 mark at 149 and Terrell Barraclough (Kaysville, Utah) posted an 8-0 major over Kervin at 149 as well. Konner Kraeszig (Louisville, Ky.) picked up two wins at 165, a 9-0 major over Derek Gilcher and a 13-7 decision over Sammy Cokeley. Creighton Edsell (Wyalusing, Pa.) picked up a 10-5 decision over Detars at 174. Penn State is now 1-0 on the year, 1-0 in Big Ten action. Indiana falls to 0-3, all conference duals as well. Bravo-Young got the bout started with a quick takedown to open up an early 2-1 lead. Bravo-Young fought off a slight Luigs shot to keep action in neutral, then slid around on a low single for a second takedown to open up a 4-1 lead with 1:00 on the clock. The Lion junior maintained control until :15 was left in the period and led 4-2 with :49 in riding time after the opening period. Luigs chose down to start the second period. Bravo-Young maintained control long enough to build up over a minute in riding time. The Lion junior cut Luigs loose to a 4-3 score with 1:21 on the clock. Bravo-Young picked up a third takedown with 1:04 left and opened up a 6-3 lead with nearly 2:00 in riding time. Bravo-Young nearly added a fourth takedown but the Hoosier fought off the effort and Bravo-Young led 6-4 with 1:48 in riding time after two periods. Bravo-Young chose neutral to start the third period and quickly used a double leg to take Luigs down again to lead 8-5. Luigs got in on a high shot but Bravo-Young countered the effort and upped his lead to 10-5 with a nice counter takedown. With his riding time point assured, Bravo-Young cut Luigs loose. But Luigs closed out the bout with his first takedown to keep Bravo-Young to a regular 11-8 decision with 1:57 in riding time. 141: Senior Nick Lee (Evansville, Ind.), ranked No. 2 at 141, took on Indiana's Caydon Rooks. Lee took Rooks down quickly for a fast 2-0 lead. He then tried to tilt Rooks but the Hoosier fought off the effort and Lee cut him loose. Lee quickly blew through a low single for a second takedown and a 4-1 lead with 1:54 on the clock. Lee once again tried to turn Rooks for back points but Rooks was able to roll through the move and keep the score at 4-1. With 1:30 in riding time, Lee then turned Rooks to his back, locking up a headlock for four back points and an 8-4 lead. He turned Rooks for two near fall points and led 10-1 after one. Lee chose down to start the second period and steadily worked his way to a reversal on the edge of the mat to open up a 12-1 lead. Lee worked his riding time to 2:30 while trying to turn Rooks one more time. Lee finished the period, and match, by turning Rooks for four final back points to post a 16-1 technical fall at the 5:00 mark. 149: Junior Jarod Verkleeren (Greensburg, Pa.), ranked No, 10 at 149, met Graham Rooks. Rooks instigated an early scramble that Verkleeren spent nearly :30 fighting off before action moved out of bounds. Verkleeren fought off another low Rooks shot and worked his way into a stalemate with 1:00 left in the period. The duo battle evenly as the clock moved below :30 and Rooks forced Verkleeren into a first stall warning as the period ended. Verkleeren chose down to start the second period and quickly turned into a shoulder throw, taking Rooks to his back, and nearly picking up back points but settling for a reversal and a 2-0 lead. Rooks escaped to a 2-1 score with 1:03 left in the period. Verkleeren took a low shot, forcing a scramble that ended with the Lion lifting Rooks' left leg to his hip as he tried to finish off a takedown late in the period. But Rooks was able to fight off the effort and Verkleeren led 2-1 after two periods. Rooks chose down to start the third period and worked his way to his feet and an escape to tie the bout at 2-2 with 1:33 left in the match-up. Rooks was awarded a takedown on a scramble near the outside circle that turned out to be the difference in a 4-3 Indiana victory. 157: Junior Brady Berge (Mantorville, Minn.), ranked No. 11 at 157, faced Matt Ortiz. Berge scored quickly, snapping down on a low shot to open up a 2-0 lead just :45 into the bout. Berge maintained control of the bout for :30 before Ortiz escaped to a 2-1 score. The duo battled on their feet as the clock moved down below the 1:00 mark. Berge fought off a slight Ortiz shot then moved back to the middle of the mat to set up his offense. The Lion junior could not work through Ortiz's defense and Berge led 2-1 after one period. Ortiz chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 2-2 tie with Berge owning :47 in riding time. Berge pressed his offense, forcing Ortiz towards the outside circle where action moved out of bounds with 1:12 on the clock. The remainder of the period was wrestled in neutral and Berge and Ortiz were tied 2-2 after two. Berge chose down to start the third period and worked his way to his feet and an escape with 1:30 on the clock. Leading 3-2, Berge kept action in the center of the mat, jockeying for position as he looked for an opening on offense. He used a fast single to force a scramble that worked the clock to the :23 mark before a potentially dangerous call halted action. Berge nearly picked up another takedown with :20 on the clock. Berge pickled up the takedown as the duo rolled out of bounds and Indiana challenged the takedown. The call stood and Berge led 5-2 with :17 left. Berge finished the bout on top and posted a 5-2 win. 165: Freshman Joe Lee (Evansville, Ind.), ranked No. 6 at 165, made his Penn State dual debut against Nick South. Lee picked up a quick takedown to open up an early 2-0 lead. South escaped to a 2-1 score as the clock hit 2:20. Lee continued to move into South's face, setting a fast offensive pace. Lee controlled the pace, forcing South into a first stall at the :35 mark. South took a shot with :25 on the clock and Lee nearly locked up a counter cradle but the action moved out of bounds and Lee carried the 2-1 lead into the second period. Lee chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 3-1 lead. Lee notched his second takedown with 1:30 on the clock and worked his way into a chance to throw the Hoosier. But South was able to fight off the effort. Lee continued to pressure South as his riding time moved near 1:00. South escaped to a 5-2 score and nearly took Lee down with a scrambling move that the Lion freshman was able to fight off. Lee led 5-2 after two periods. South chose down to start the final stanza. Lee controlled action long enough to build up a 1:06 riding time edge before South escaped to a 5-3 Lee lead. Lee then moved his way into a low shot that led to a takedown and a 7-3 lead. Lee maintained control until the 1:00 mark before South escaped to a 7-4 score with Lee getting a stall warning in the process. With :30 left, Lee fought off a late South shot and then nearly scored on a late counter but settled for a strong 8-4 win with 1:24 in riding time. 174: Freshman Carter Starocci (Erie, Pa.), ranked No. 5 at 174, made his Nittany Lion dual meet debut against Donnell Washington. Washington shocked Starocci on the edge of the mat by throwing the Lion freshman for a takedown and four back points to open up a 6-0 lead early in the first period. Starocci escaped to a 6-1 score and immediately moved in on offense, looking to cut into Washington's lead. Washington, however, notched the next takedown and opened up an 8-1 lead. Starocci gave up two late back points and trailed 10-1 after the opening period. Washington chose down to start the second period and cut Washington's riding time edge down below 1:00. Starocci spent over 1:00 working to turn Washington for back points to cut into Washington's lead. He picked up a stall point, then turned Washington for two back points to cut the lead to 10-4. The Lion freshman then added four back points as the period ended and cut the 10-1 lead to 10-8 after two periods. Starocci chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 10-9 deficit. Starocci forced Washington out of bounds twice but did not get the stall call to tie the bout as the clock hit :45. With :22 left and a reset called, Starocci continued to force Washington backwards but the Hoosier was able to kill the clock with defense and Starocci dropped a 10-9 decision in his Penn State debut. 184: Sophomore Aaron Brooks (Hagerstown, Md.), ranked No. 3 at 184, met Indiana's Drayton Harris. Brooks scored quickly to open up an early 2-0 lead. The Lion sophomore then worked his riding time edge upwards before Harris escaped to a 2-1 score. Brooks then immediately worked his way into a low shot and a second takedown and a 4-1 lead. The Lion maintained his offensive position for the remainder of the period and led 4-1 with 2:12 in riding time after one. Brooks chose down to start the second period, quickly escaped and then took Harris down for a 7-1 lead. Harris escaped to a 7-2 score before Brooks used a low double to open up a 9-2 lead with :52 on the clock. He finished the period on top and led 9-2 with 3:21 in riding time after two. Harris chose neutral to start the third period and Brooks quickly took him down for an 11-2 lead. With his riding time pushing 4:00, Brooks cut Harris loose to an 11-3 lead, then took him down again to up his lead to 11-3. Willham added a late takedown in the period and led 7-1 after two periods. Higgins chose down to start the third period. He worked his way to an escape but Willham added another takedown and upped his lead to 9-2 with over 1:00 in riding time. Willham worked offensive control into a clinched riding time point. Higgins scrambled his way to a late takedown, however, to keep from giving up a major decision and dropped a hard-fought 10-3 decision. 285: Sophomore Seth Nevills (Clovis, Calif.) took on IU's Rudy Streck. Nevills wasted no time opening up an early lead. He used a quick low shot to take Streck down for a 2-0 lead. The Lion then put together a strong ride, building up his riding time up over 1:00 while looking to turn Streck to his back.
