i think it's much too early to be talking about 2032

how many times have we had a promising junior world champion fizzle out in the senior stage?

With regard Rahman Amouzad he may be best to try and stay at 65 as long as he is able to as he has the advantage of size at that weight where as he losses that advantage at 74. Interesting they showed his dad on some videos after the world championship back in September and his dad looked very slim and not carrying excess weight. So may be genetically or from life style habits or both he will be aided to maintain his current weight.

Yes- no one knows what will happen in the current climate in Iran anyway-Statistically we can expect some new high calibre wrestlers to also emerge along side him also

he would be giving up a lot of advantages to move to 74. no reason to move up before 2028. he's only be 26 then. maybe after.

Big Babak could likely handle around 5 Basijis alone. Would be very useful if he is in the protests in Mazandaran. It seems he lives in Iran full time now?

lol.. that gave me an image of him picking up 3 basijis kicking and screaming.

Seems like he is in Iran now- I get the impression if he does not have any foreign assignment like ufc coaching or covering UWW wrestling events he would go to Iran so Iran would be main base but he travels a lot he and likely has a place in Europe too… He on the whole keeps his personal life out of his social media apart from the wrestling friends.

Good gig if you can get it I guess …

He's also seemingly the only normal person in Iran who still has access to the internet

I guess as the future head of Iranian wrestling federation in line to replace Dabir he may have access to internet when others don’t- but joking aside the internet has been holding pretty well for the normal folks I know  up-to last night when things got slowed up pretty bad but not  altogether switched off I understand or may be getting back up a bit

He may not officially live there but I have a suspicion he soon may live there once he takes over Dabir.

I wonder what will happen to Dabir afterwards.

why would he take over Dabir? lol. he's a good journalist but he's an American citizen and doesn't live in Iran, and didn't have a wrestling career for Iran. Dabir is an Olympic and World champion. it's a strange comparison, to be honest.

I guess once this dreadful regime collapses Dabir being so part of the regime will be got rid of. I was speculating who will replace him. It may be Rasol Khadem or others. Babak gets my vote though.

Dabir is an Iranian wrestling legend regardless of political views. Babak is a pretty funny vote though. Might as well vote for Eric Orlawski.

I guess there are two parts in what I was saying. One is that if there is major political change in Iran then Dabir will have to go. This is serious and if one event happens the other will follow as Dabir is so much of a representative of the regime. As to who gets to replace him then it’s not my decision and I was half serious ( or half joking) and thought it would be ironic if he did replace Dabir if events went that way. On the other hand there are plenty of other folks perhaps more suited . What I am sure of is that it won’t be my decision so what I say here does not matter and should not affect you- I’m not so sure whose decision it will be although it will be interesting to speculate on that too. Perhaps that’s for another post-I guess if/when it comes to that there will be many changes in Iran  some of which I am entirely clueless about.

PS- fwiw - I think Dabir has done a great job in managing the federation and the wrestling scene in Iran. I’m actually thankful to him for that. It’s a shame that he has so overtly been such an instrument of the regime and so openly flaunted his religiousness that he has inextricably tied his fate to that of the regime.

If (big if) there's political change in Iran, revolutionary or otherwise, is there a chance that women's wrestling is allowed in Iran? They could be a pretty strong team similar to Turkey (Iran may also resemble Turkey politically in some ways?)

Yes I think women wrestling will be allowed if there is political change-What is questionable is that if they will be any good as there are not a lot of girls training in wrestling. Iran has good women teams in sports like volleyball soccer tekwando and I believe some world medal winners in rock climbing wushu and other martial arts and sports like table tennis . I guess with the singlet in wrestling there may be a cultural issue of so much of the body being exposed but personally I don’t see that being an issue in the way it’s not an issue in Turkey India or the central Asian republics. Not sure how long it will take to build up a competitive talent pool. I do recall Rasul Khadem mentioning women wrestling in the past so I won’t be surprised if there would be attempts to promote it. I know there have been Japanese  women wrestlers recently visiting Iran so may be there can be some collaboration and exchanges occurring to promote it.

Yasar Dogu freestyle wrestling started today

Ali Rezaei and Ali Karampour are wrestling at 74kg

Rezaei had more success, beating Yahya Thomas (USA) 3-2 and James Green (USA) 8-4 to reach the finals

Karampour teched the 2025 U20 world silver but then got pinned by Quincy Monday (USA), who will wrestle Rezaei in the 74kg final

Babaloo also reached the final at 97kg, beating a few mid level Turkish wrestlers and beating fellow Iranian 97kg prospect Alizadeh 9-1 (Alizadeh randomly broke his toe or something and had to injury forfeit with a minute left)

All the wrestling sites in Iran are down to the internet blockage.

imam glad you are able to obtain results and share them with us.

the fact that Babaloo won gold speaks volumes about the lack of quality in the tournament

Given the success of Iranian women in other martial arts,  I would expect them to excel in wrestling.

in addition, the women demonstrating in the streets are demonstrating in the streets are showing more courage and resolve than most people will ever have.  Some of them would be able to turn that mental toughness into success in sports.

I know it doesn't map one to one in many places. Russia is a famous example. Their wrestling strongholds are devout sunni muslim areas that do not like it.

I think a lot of areas in Iran will still be rural, Persian Shiite muslim, and religious even if the government changes. Most Iranian wrestlers come from Mazandaran. So I think it would depend on what it's like over there. image.thumb.png.ccfc2c233e5b833b06d22d49e40ea4ba.pngimage.thumb.png.ffe4a9f11cd06ca7013523c253e607bb.png

I don’t think there is anything cultural about Iranian women being against putting on singlet.

here is a picture of the Iranian national swimming team in 1975, before the revolution.

I don’t think singles are any more risqué than the swimming suits worn in the picture.

while you are correct that Mazandaran is a hot bed of freestyle wrestling, there are other places such as Tehran, Gilan, Kermanshah and others

And Southern Iran is the hot bed of GR wrestling

But perhaps, most importantly, thanks to this regime , the young people of Iran have become very secular and most are not religious at all.

So if this regime falls, I expect female wrestling in Iran to become popular
