This is tangential but regards grounding rule being abolished- I think the biggest beneficiary could be Amouzad- he had some matches in which his opponents kept themselves in the match purely due to tactical grounding- the last match against his Indian opponent and one against Yianni come to mind… I think the Indian 65 is going to have to find another way to keep it close with Amouzad.

All Mamedov could do was be grounded against Amouzad. Frankly that's pretty much always been the case against Iranian wrestlers they get the push out but because they are "grounded" no points were given. I think the rule is going to work in our favour quite a lot especially since all our guys are so underhook focussed. Sujeet who Amouzad wrestled against is quite good so it would be interesting to see him, Kiyooka and Mamedov all competing at worlds this year. I wonder if our guys perform much better this year due to this rule change or not.

Ghasempour isn't making 86kg at the Olympics if he can't make the cut sustainably now he won't being 2/3 years older. It's Rahmani's spot to lose unless another guy breaks into the scene. I don't think Firouzpour flopped, underperformed yes but a world bronze is still a big achievement. But I don't think he is making a world team anytime soon given the logjam of guys at 86-97kg. Azarpira can't make 92kg so he has to compete at 97kg and Yazdani wants to win a 4th olympic medal so he is also competing at 97kg. The only way they both are in the team is with Azarpira beating Yazdani which would be a huge upset.

Ghasempour doesn't have a choice. He tried to move up to 97kg and quickly realised that was a terrible idea. He already has two world titles at 92kg. The only thing he is missing is an Olympic medal, and his only path to the Olympics is at 86kg. He could pick up an Olympic Bronze on last year's performance at 86kg.

I don't think Azarpira beating Yazdani would be that big of an upset. Azarpira has a significantly bigger frame but still needs to trust his leg attacks more and work on his cardio. Yazdani had two pretty easy matches so far, let's see how he does against the likes of Azarpira, Snyder, Kurbanov, Yoshida, Tazhudinov, Sadulaev, Aitmukhan.

I agree- DT beat Yazdani as he managed to hold on against his offense and get take downs of his own often in the dying seconds of the match. Azarpira as you say needs to get to his attacks and also keep up with the cardio/stamina

Only their Olympic final came down to the last seconds.

That’s the most memorable and arguably the most important one. Yazdani would have been a two times Olympic champ which a no mean feat

Yes, just saying that wasn't often how their matches ended. In all the matches Taylor won aside from Tokyo he more or less had it wrapped up with at least minute or two left.

I don’t recall all the matches. Anyway my point was for Azarpira to need to be more aggressive with Yazdani perhaps in the way Taylor was.  I wasn’t really discussing Taylor v Yazdani encounters in any other way apart from what the take home message may be for Azarpira really

Here they all are for Azarpira to study

Sounds like you are stuck in that era.. most folks have moved on Any way I doubt that Azarpira would come here to study it.. I suspect Hassan Yazdani will go on to gather more accolades in any case lol

Azarpira doesn't wrestle like DT at all so it's not very helpful for him

I remember every one of their matches. Unfortunately. By the final two matches Yazdani wasn't even leading after the first period, that's when we knew DT had him totally figured out (again).

But at least Yazdani (1) has his Olympic gold from 2016 and (2) beat DT (once). These facts help his legacy a lot.

Oh Windows, you still lash out over the slightest comments like you did on the old forum. I forgive you and appreciate your passion for Mr Yazdani!

How magnanimous of you Shiraz ! If you thought that was lashing out then you got a very thin skin. I do admire your interest and love for the sport of wrestling and happy to shake your hand metaphorically in friendship.

Thank you. Calm down and take a few deep breaths next time before you post.

No worries. We are good. Hopefully there will be some good wrestling that we can discuss in the future.

I am excited to see how the 16 year old Haj Mola Mohammadi will do at 65 Kg

Is he 16 or 17 I wonder. I heard both. If he is 16 he made the senior national finals with a year of cadet eligibility left. Impressive either way but I wonder if he has to go juniors this year or can do cadets again. I say this because people were also saying Ahora Khateri was 17 at junior worlds when he had been 18 for about 9 months lol.

That means he turns 18 this year, he is 17 now. So he wasn't 16 as some pages said lol. That would have been really insane. But I like the way he wrestles and he is very talented regardless of his age.

He may be our future for 74kg in 2032 Olympics if rahman does not take it
