    Wartburg begins season at Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Nov. 11

    The 2006-07 competition season for No. 2-ranked Wartburg begins Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open in Fort Dodge and the UW-SP Pointer Open. Head coach Jim Miller and his staff have set line-ups for both meets. They are as follows:

    Harold Nichols – Junior 149-pounder Tyler Everson of Clinton; senior 125-pounder Kyle Blood of Cedar Rapids; senior 165-pounder Dustin Cooper of Urbandale; sophomore 184-pounder Romeo Djoumessi of Waverly; senior heavyweight Blake Gillis of Spencer; sophomore 141-pounder Blake Hoppenworth of Cambridge; sophomore 165-pounder Justin Hanson of Humboldt; junior 133-pounder Jake Helvey of Mitchellville; sophomore 141-pounder Zach McKray of Iowa City; junior 197-pounder T.J.     IN THE POLLS - Wartburg has five individuals ranked in the top eight of their respective weight classes heading into this weekend's season openers. Junior 149-pounder Jacob Naig of Emmetsburg and senior heavyweight Blake Gillis of Spencer are each No. 1, while junior 197-pounder T.J. Miller of Cedar Falls is No. 2, sophomore 141-pounder Zach McKray of Iowa City is No. 4, and sophomore 184-pounder Romeo Djoumessi of Waverly is No. 5.

    NWCA ALL-STAR HONOR - Gillis has already received a top honor this season, being selected for an exhibition match against NCAA Division II standout Tervel Dlagnev of Nebraska-Kearney, at the NWCA All-Star meet in Dallas, Texas, Monday, Nov. 20. Gillis is the first NCAA Division III wrestler to receive an invitation to this event. Ten matches will be contested between top individuals in NCAA Division I along with the featured exhibitions at the Dallas Convention Center. "This invitation is a great confidence booster to the beginning of my season, as well as my goal of a national title," Gillis said. Miller will join Gillis in Dallas as a coach on the all-star staff.
