Three Ohio State wrestlers on NWCA All-Academic Team

COLUMBUS, Ohio –- Ohio State wrestling Buckeyes J Jaggers, Mike Pucillo and Chris Vondruska were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team the organization announced Monday. The three OSU honorees tied for the third-most for a school this year.

Ohio State was just one of 11 schools with multiple honorees. Northern Iowa topped the list with five Academic All-Americans. Stanford was second with four award winners.

Jaggers (So., Northfield, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel), a communication major, became an All-American in 2007 after finishing seventh at 141 pounds at the NCAA championships. Also majoring in communication, Pucillo (Fr., Strongsville, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) captured his first All-America honor with a sixth-place finish at 184 pounds. Vondruska (Bay Village, Ohio/Hofstra) is the lone graduate student on the list with a focus on education. Vondruska was a 2007 NCAA qualifier at 165 pounds.

In order to be eligible for the NWCA All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.2, be an NCAA qualifier or win 60 percent of his total schedule, while also competing in at least 60 percent of the season schedule. Another way to qualify for NWCA All-Academic honors is to own a 3.0 cumulative GPA as an NCAA All-American.
