"I am very excited about this weekend," noted head coach Kerry McCoy. "We are facing the top two teams in the conference, so it's important for us to have a good showing and finish strong going into Pac-10s."
Cal Poly (7-7, 4-3 Pac-10) lost its fifth straight match last week, falling to Fresno State, 28-19, although the two squads had a combined five forfeits in the meet. Last year, Stanford defeated Cal Poly 23-14 in Palo Alto.
Arizona State (12-7, 7-0 Pac-10) will host the Cardinal on Sunday in its season-finale. The Sun Devils will wrestle Fresno State on Friday night. ASU had won six-straight duals before falling to No. 10 Oklahoma, 29-13, in Norman last week. In 2004-05, the Sun Devils posted 27-12 victory over the Cardinal at Stanford.
The Cardinal will close out the dual season at Fresno State (4-9), a non-league team that will wrestle all 10 teams in the Pac-10 Conference this season. The Bulldogs are 1-6 against Pac-10 teams this year (with their only win coming against Cal Poly last week). Fresno State will close out the season with ASU on Friday, Stanford on Wednesday and UC Davis on Saturday, Feb. 18.
The Cardinal enters the weekend with a 7-5 overall record and a 4-2 mark in Pac-10 action.
