Radsky qualifies for U.S. World Team Trials

WATERLOO, Iowa -- Davidson junior Alex Radsky did not take a long break following his trip to the NCAA Championships, as he returned to the mat and won the 60 kg (133 pounds) bracket at the USA Wrestling Northern Plains Senior Freestyle Regionals on Saturday to advance to the World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa, June 11-12.

Radsky, who in March became Davidson's first Southern Conference Champion in 41 years and competed at the NCAA Wrestling Championships for the first time in his career, won four decisions en route to the regional title.

Radsky, who hails from Worthington, Ohio, earned a 1-0, 8-0 decision over Michael Orange of the Minnesota Storm before taking a 2-3, 4-0, 4-0 decision Matt Rein (Maverick Wrestling Club) to reach the semifinals. Radsky defeated Duaine Martin (U.S. Army) 1-0, 5-0 to advance to the finals, where he defeated James Rollins of Pin City 0-1, 5-3, 8-3.

Alex's twin brother, Vitaly Radsky, competed in the 66 kg (145.5 pounds) bracket, but dropped a 4-2,6-0 decision to eventual bracket champion and Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament Dylan Ness (Minnesota Storm) in the first round. Radsky, the 141-pound Southern Conference runner up, then lost a close 0-2, 2-1, 1-0 decision to Nick Hucke in the consolation bracket.

At the 2010 USA Wrestling World Team Trials, Alex Radsky will be competing against national champions, Olympians and World medalists for a place on the national team that will represent the United States at the 2010 World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
