Oregon State rolls past California Baptist

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Beavers came away with victories in eight of ten bouts and cruised to a 28-6 win over Cal Baptist inside Gill Coliseum on Friday night.

Brandon Kaylor started the dual at 125 pounds and helped set the tone with a 14-3 major decision over Dilan Atjun. The redshirt freshman has been dominant as of late and used a big first period to build up his lead. A quick takedown and four back points put him up 6-0 as he never looked back to collect his fourth major decision of the year with 3:19 of riding time.

At 133 pounds, Devan Turner continued the momentum as he earned a 7-2 decision over Christian Nunez. Turner scored two takedowns and amassed a riding time point to give Oregon State an early 6-0 lead.

Grant Willits squared off against Adam Velasquez at 141 pounds and came alive in the third period for an 8-2 victory and Oregon State's third consecutive win of the night. Willits led 3-2 heading into the third period and notched a late takedown and escape to seal the bout with 2:06 of riding time.

Lane Stigall came within a point of A.J. Raya in the second period but ultimately dropped an 8-4 decision. Raya used a late takedown to seal the win as Cal Baptist got on the board.

Logan Meek bounced back for an 11-6 decision over Zachary Rowe. Meek exploded in the third period as he scored eight points including six back points and a reversal to put the Beavers ahead 13-3

Following Meek's impressive win, Aaron Olmos won by forfeit over Cole Pruitt at 165 pounds to extend the lead to 19-3.

Jackson McKinney notched two escapes but struggled to find his rhythm, dropping a 5-2 decision to Jacob Cooper.

The Beavers would take the last three bouts of the night with gritty efforts to close the dual. Colt Doyle fought at 184 pounds and edged Garrett Strang on a narrow 2-0 decision. All Doyle needed was a lone escape and a third-period ride out to earn his victory.

At 197 pounds, J.J. Dixon also scrapped for a 2-0 decision over Arick Lopez with 1:02 of riding time.

Jamarcus Grant took Zach Schrader to overtime and came away with a 3-2 decision to end the dual. The heavyweight used a reversal at the beginning of the extra period to take the win in the match's final bout
