Carolina (12-3, 0-0 ACC) is coming off a 4-2 weekend and a fourth-place showing at the Virginia Duals. NC State (7-3, 1-1 ACC) is fresh off a 26-7 win over Duke Tuesday. The Tar Heels and Wolfpack split their two meetings a year ago.
Penn enters Saturday's action with a 5-2 dual record. The Quakers placed second at last weekend's Virginia Duals. The Citadel enters the weekend with a 2-3 mark. Penn and The Citadel square off at noon at Carmichael to kick off the action.
Six individuals rated among the top 20 in their respective weight classes in the NWCA/InterMat rankings will be in action this weekend, including a pair of Tar Heels. Junior heavyweight Spencer Nadolsky, ranked 13th, leads Carolina with a 30-2 mark and 10 pins. He carries a 16-match winning streak into the weekend.
Carolina senior Garrett Atkinson is ranked No. 20 at 165 and sports an 11-6 record. Junior Deon Barrett, 12-8 on the season, could also see action at 165. Also expected to start for the Tar Heels are: junior Bobby Shaw, 18-11 at 125, sophomore Chris Ramos, 13-10 at 149, junior Brian Baglio, 13-13 at 157, sophomore Alex Maciag, 18-11 at 174, sophomore Justin Dobies, 21-9 at 184, and junior David Dashiell, 27-8 at 197.
At 133, Carolina should start either Jared Royer or Dan Carleton, while Isaiah Britton or Vincent Ramirez will get the nod at 141.
Other nationally-ranked individuals in action this weekend include Penn's Matt Valenti, who is No. 12 at 133 pounds, Mike Silengo, No. 20 at 125, and Gene Zannetti is No. 20 at 157. NC State 197-pounder Ryan Goodman is rated No. 13.
Following this weekend's action, Carolina continues ACC action next weekend at both Virginia and Maryland.
