    Gardner-Webb rallies to defeat Ohio

    BOILING SPRINGS -- Gardner-Webb rallied from a 12-3 deficit Sunday afternoon, winning the six individual bouts of the day to top Ohio by a 24-12 score in the final home dual of the season.

    It was Gardner-Webb's first win over the Bobcats (7-7) in the first dual of a busy day. The Runnin' Bulldogs (6-9) will travel to Davidson Sunday night for a 7:00 pm SoCon match.

    After Hayden Lee and 14th-ranked Cameron Kelly posted bonus points for Ohio in the first two weight classes, Gardner-Webb got a lift from redshirt sophomore Dallas Roemer at 141 pounds. The Pinehurst, N.C., native picked up his first win of the season on Sunday, holding off KeVon Powell for an 8-6 decision to get the 'Dogs on the board.

    The Bobcats recovered with a 9-5 decision from Noah Forrider at 149 pounds, but Gardner-Webb sent its veteran core to the match next.

    Ryan Mosley came alive at 157 pounds and topped Cullen Cummings by a 6-3 score to pull the Runnin' Bulldogs within 12-6.

    Tyler Marinelli pulled off a critical takedown with just three seconds remaining in the third period at 165 pounds, sending the crowd into a frenzy with a 3-1 decision over Austin Reese.

    Austin Trott overcame an early takedown by Arsen Ashughyan at 174 pounds – one that required video review to confirm – getting the Bobcats' sophomore on the ground to secure a 5-2 decision that tied the dual at 12-12.

    Hunter Gamble kept his hot streak alive at 184 pounds for Gardner-Webb, controlling the action early and rolling to a 13-0 major decision.

    The decisive match came at 197 pounds, with redshirt senior Kyle Ash pulling of a a thrilling, 5-4 decision to seal the win for Gardner-Webb. after recording a takedown in the third to tie the score at 3-3, Ash allowed a deliberate escape to Bailey Faust in order to attempt another shot for the win. He scored points with a late takedown and held on for the win.

    With the match decided, the Bobcats went with 197-pounder Devin King in the heavyweight bout. Boyce Cornwell took advantage of the weight differential, jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead after a takedown and near fall. He closed the match in the third period, winning with a 15-0 tech fall (6:09) for the final margin.
