    Campbell defeats Chattanooga for first time in program history

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Campbell picked up points in the last three matches of the day to defeat Chattanooga, 21-19, in come from behind fashion Saturday afternoon.

    No. 22 Ville Heino upset No. 16 Bryce Carr by a 3-1 decision at 184 and No. 32 Jere Heino upset No. 10 Jared Johnson 9-4 at 285 to give Campbell its first victory over Chattanooga in program history. Campbell's 21 team points is also the most it has scored against Chattanooga.

    CU fell behind 9-0 after the opening two matches, but Joshua Heil put Campbell on the board with his 7-6 win over Chase Zemenak at 141. Heil took a 6-4 lead after the opening period and held on in the final two periods for the win.

    Campbell won six matches on the day, including back-to-back bonus point victories by Benjamin Barton at 149 and Austin Kraisser at 157.

    At 149, Barton picked up a major decision victory, 9-1, against Dylanger Potter. After he jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first period, he scored a reversal in the second to extend his lead to 8-1. With a caution point and riding time, Barton finished with a 10-1 victory.

    Campbell picked up five team points at 157 as Kraisser made quick work of Clark, with an 18-1 tech fall. Kraisser sprinted out to a 10-1 lead after the first period, and closed out the match at 4:29 in the second, with a takedown and four-point nearfall.

    With a 12-9 lead after 157, UTC scored 10 points between the 165 and 174 matches to take a 19-12 lead.

    Despite the seven-point deficit, the Orange and Black did not falter. The Camels claimed decision victories in the final three matches of the afternoon to complete the comeback.

    No. 22 Ville Heino knocked off No. 16 Bryce Carr 3-1 at the 184-pound contest. After a scoreless first, Carr took a 1-0 lead in the second after an early escape. V. Heino scored an escape in the third to even the score and force overtime. He notched a takedown in the sudden victory period to earn the 3-1 win.

    Campbell garnered three points in the 197-pound matchup as Willie Bivens won by a 7-4 decision over Ira Dent. Bivens secured a pair of points in each period to claim the victory and pull Campbell to within one, 19-18.

    The final contest featured a pair of ranked competitors, No. 32 Jere Heino and No. 10 Jared Johnson. Johnson took a 1-0 lead after two periods with an escape in the second. Facing a 3-1 deficit in the third, J. Heino connected on a reversal, along with a takedown and four-point nearfall en route to a 9-4 decision win. J. Heino's decision victory gave CU three points and a 21-19 victory.

    Campbell wrestling returns to action, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. against Davidson inside Carter Gym. Thursday's dual is "Takedowns and Togas" night, wear your toga, and come support Campbell wrestling.
