    Bloomsburg takes care of Lock Haven in EWL dual

    LOCK HAVEN -- A pin from Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) 4:21 into the heavyweight bout, lifted the Bloomsburg University wrestling team to a 21-15 win over Lock Haven. With the win, the Huskies move to 10-9 on the season, 4-2 in Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) competition. The Lock Haven win also gives Bloomsburg its second straight 10-win season for the first time since the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons.

    125-Fourteenth-ranked Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) won an exciting 5-2 overtime bout against 16th-ranked Obe Blanc to give the Huskies an early 3-0 lead. With Blanc leading 2-2 going into the second period, Sees tied the score with an escape from the defensive position with 1:45 remaining. Following a scoreless third period and first overtime, Blanc chose the defensive position, looking for an escape. Sees was able to ride out, earning an opportunity to win the match in the third overtime period. With 22 seconds remaining, Sees scored on an escape to take a 3-2 lead and got a takedown with five seconds left to get the bout win for Bloomsburg.

    133-Ricky Donald (Millville/Bloomsburg) gave the Huskies a 6-0 lead with a 3-2 decision win over Casey Moore. Following a scoreless first period, Moore took a 2-0 lead after a takedown at the 1:01 mark in the second. In the third, Donald cut the lead to one with an escape just 15 seconds in, followed by a takedown with 24 seconds remaining in the match to win the bout for the Huskies.

    141-With a takedown with 12 seconds remaining in overtime, Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Downingtown) won a 6-4 decision over Lock Haven's Brian Ellis. In the first, Ellis struck initially, scoring on a takedown at the 1:13 mark in the first period. Eight seconds later, Forbes got an escape, cutting the lead to 2-1 after the first period. In the second, Forbes tied the score at two prior to an Ellis escape with one minute left in the period. Following another Forbes escape, Ellis led 4-3, and chose the defensive position in the third period. After riding out the third period, Forbes tied the score, 4-4, to force overtime before getting the takedown 48 seconds into the extra period.

    149-Seventeenth-ranked Josh Medina put the Bald Eagles on the board with a 10-5 win over George Hickman (Wilmington, NC/Riverside). Hickman tied the score at two at the 1:40 mark in the second, but Medina scored another takedown, followed by another Bloomsburg escape, owning a 4-3 lead going into the final two minutes. In the third period, Medina scored an escape and two takedowns to get the win, cutting the Huskies' lead to 9-3.

    157-Aric Fuhrman (Spring Grove/Delone Catholic) dropped a tough 4-2 decision to 17th-ranked Seth Martin, giving the Huskies a 9-6 lead in the match. Martin scored all of his points in the first period, owning a 4-1 lead after the first three minutes. In the second, Fuhrman got an escape from the defensive position, cutting the lead to two going into the final period. In the third, despite riding out the period, Martin hung on for the win.

    165-Rory McCoy used an eight-point first period en route to an 11-5 win over Frank Beasley (Oden, IL/Centralia). After two takedowns and four back-points in the first for McCoy, Beasley scored the first points in the second period, getting a takedown at the 1:07 mark. After cutting the lead to five, McCoy got a reverse with 25 seconds left in the second to take a 10-3 lead heading into the final period. Despite a Beasley reverse with 46 seconds remaining, McCoy was able to get the 11-5 win after earning his final point for riding time.

    174-Jim Bertulis (Aston/Garnett Valley) broke the 9-9 tie, giving the Huskies a six-point lead with a pin over Lock Haven's Carlos Ponce. After scoring five quick points in the first 25 seconds, Bertulis pinned Ponce at the 2:19 mark in the first period.

    184-Derrick Morgan scored three third-period points against Nate Shirk (Middleburg/Middleburg) to give the Bald Eagles a 6-1 decision win. After a scoreless first period, Shirk escaped from the down position to take an early 1-0 lead. With 1:07 remaining in the second, Morgan scored on a takedown, taking a 2-1 lead into the final period. After selecting the defensive position, Morgan got an escape 20 seconds into the period and scored a takedown with two seconds left in the match to take a 5-1 lead. His final point came on riding time.

    197-Tom Kocher tied the match going into the final bout with an 8-4 decision win over Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin). Kocher took a 2-1 lead going into the second period. Following a Hasseman escape at the 1:43 mark, Kocher scored two takedowns, while Hasseman had two more escapes, taking a 6-4 lead going into the final period. Kocher took a 7-4 lead on an escape from the defensive position and earned a point for riding time to win the bout.

    HWT-Spaid gave the Huskies a 21-15 win with a pin over Meyers in the final bout of the night. Leading 2-0 after the first period, Spaid scored on an escape just four seconds into the second. After a takedown at the 1:39 mark, Spaid scored three back-points at the one-minute mark before getting the pin with 39 seconds left in the second period.

    The Huskies will host East Stroudsburg in their final dual meet of the 2005-06 season on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 1:00 p.m. at Nelson Field House.
