MINNEAPOLIS -- Freshman Logan Storley lit a fuse for the No. 3 Minnesota Golden Gopher wrestling team on Friday night. The Gophers were down 15-7 heading into the 174 lbs. match between No. 7 Storley and Michigan's No. 5 Justin Zerrip.

Storley was down 5-3 with four seconds left in regulation as both wrestlers went out of the circle. As they headed to the inner circle for a re-start, Storley caught Zeerip, who was slow getting back to the circle. Storley took advantage of the fatigued Zeerip and shot a low single leg and quickly turned it into a two-point takedown tying the match at five as the horn sounded. Zeerip had the riding time point to tie the score at five a piece. Storley was able to score a takedown 20 seconds into the extra time, to pick up the 7-5 victory and pull the Gophers within five of the Wolverines.

Redshirt Sophomore Kevin Steinhaus took the mat next for the Maroon and Gold and took care of the Wolverines Hunter Collins after picking up a 14-5 major decision. The bonus point would bring Minnesota within one (15-14) of Michigan with two matches left.

No. 6 Sonny Yohn would take on Michigan's No. 15 Max Huntley and was awarded a win by injury early in the second period. The six points gave the Gophers the 20-15 lead, leaving only Tony Nelson for the Gophers.

Nelson, ranked No. 4 was able to hold off a late run by No. 11 Ben Apland, as he picked up the 3-2 decision to close out a roller coaster evening for the Gophers.

Other wins for the Maroon and Gold tonight came from No. 1 Zach Sanders who scored an opening 19-9 major decision over Grant Pizzo and No. 7 Chris Dardanes picked up a 5-1 decision over No. 12 Zac Stevens.

With the victory tonight Minnesota (9-2 overall, 6-0 Big Ten) remains the only undefeated team in conference action. Michigan (5-3 overall, 3-2 Big Ten) will host Michigan State (3-6, 1-4 Big Ten) on Sunday.

The Gophers will now take on No. 5 Iowa on Sunday at Carver Hawkeye Arena. The dual will be televised live on the Big Ten Network at 3 p.m. CST.
