With the Scarlet and Gray up 18-10, 197-pounder and No. 20 Andrew Campolattano pinned Chris Heald in 18 seconds to propel Ohio State to a 24-10 lead and the team win. It was the second pin of the evening for the Buckeyes as No. 3 Logan Stieber pinned No. 16 Zac Stevens in 4:14 at 133 pounds.
The match began at 125 pounds where freshman and No. 16 Johnni Dijulius secured a 9-5 win to lift the Buckeyes to an early 3-0 lead. Dijulius owned a 4-0 advantage at the end of the first period, but his lead was cut to one by the third (6-5). However, a reversal by Dijulius with 36 seconds remaining, plus a riding time of 1:43 gave him the victory.
Stieber's pin at 133 pounds quickly put the Buckeyes up, 9-0, but Michigan was able to get on the board at 141 pounds after freshman Jarrod Boone dropped an 11-2 major decision to No. 1 and defending national champion Kellen Russell.
Ohio State dropped its second-consecutive match of the evening when No. 14 Cam Tessari suffered a 7-0 decision to No. 7 Eric Grajales at 149 pounds.
However, 157-pounder and No. 20 Josh Demas ended the first half of the evening with a 3-1 overtime win vs. Brandon Zeerip and the Buckeyes owned a 12-7 lead at the half. Demas, a redshirt-freshman, and Zeerip could only score escapes during regulation, but the Buckeye from Columbus scored a takedown with 25 seconds left in sudden victory.
For the second time during the night, a bout went into overtime when freshman Derek Garcia and No. 14 Dan Yates ended regulation tied at 5-5. With 43 seconds remaining in overtime, Yates scored a takedown for the 7-5 win and Michigan cut Ohio State's lead to two (12-10).
Redshirt-sophomore Nick Heflin and No. 8 Justin Zeerip wrestled to two overtimes, with No. 7 Heflin prevailing on riding time. Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie and both wrestlers traded escapes during the extra periods. However, Heflin's 22 seconds of riding time was enough for the win.
Redshirt-junior and No. 10 C.J. Magrum returned to the lineup at 184 pounds and was victorious, 8-3. A trio of takedowns, an escape and riding time of 1:31 helped the Buckeyes take an 18-10 lead with two matches left.
Up next, Campolattano sealed the Ohio State win before redshirt sophomore and No. 18 and heavyweight Peter Capone took to the mat. Capone dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 10 Ben Apland for the final 24-13 team score.
Up next, Ohio State will travel to East Lansing, Mich., where it will face Michigan State at 2 p.m. Sunday in Jenison Field House.
