    Akins' victory propels Coker past Limestone

    GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Coker wrestling picked up a pivotal 17-16 win at Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) foe Limestone on Wednesday (Jan. 20). With the win the Cobras move to 9-2 over and 2-1 in the ECAC.

    Charlie Huff earned a gritty 6-3 win at 125, while Derrick Nelson picked up his eighth tech fall of the season with 17-0 win at 133-pounds.

    Jordon Tague picked up a thrilling 14-10 victory at 149-pounds, fighting to turn his opponent in the final seconds for a two-point near-fall. Derek Rothermel swung the momentum back in Coker's favor with a 3-1 decision win at 165-pounds.

    The match came down to the final bout with Coker trailing 16-14. Austin Akins overcame an early 2-0 deficit to score the winning decision, 6-4, and give the Cobras the 17-16 victory.

    The Cobras are back on the mat next Friday (Jan. 29) and Saturday (Jan. 30) when they host the Super Region 2 Duals. The action starts on 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
