The Opportunity:
West Liberty University is looking for an Assistant Coach for Wrestling. The Assistant Wrestling Coach is responsible for managing various aspects of the athletic team to which assigned, which could include but are not limited to strength and conditioning, practicing, competing, scheduling, and student athlete retention.
Job responsibilities require the ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Work activities are performed under limited supervision, working from established policies and objectives. This position exercises judgment in prioritizing, planning, and organizing own work within time, process, and results requirements; has some flexibility to modify workflow based on need and circumstances. Decisions made address non-routine questions and situations, requiring investigation and/or research of precedents.
Responsibilities:
- Coaches the team of student athletes
- Evaluates and recruits qualified student athletes as well as ensuring timely submission of their academic records to admissions.
- Monitors class schedules, grades, and student athlete academic progress
- Develops and recommends game strategy and position assignments.
- Monitors the purchase of uniforms, equipment, and supplies, including accountability for expense control of sports budget.
- Adheres to all rules and regulations set forth for the team and the institution as well as the appropriate conference and athletic association.
- Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the institution positively when interacting with the community, alumni, media and general public.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in related field required
- 1 year + relevant high school, college, or junior college experience
- 1 year + collegiate coaching preferred.
