Macaluso to Lead Girl's Program at New York Military Academy

New York Military Academy has announced that legendary New York native Sofia Macaluso will head the school’s girls wrestling team. As a competitor, Macaluso made a pair of age-group world teams, earning a silver medal at the 2022 U20 World Championships and wrestling in a bronze-medal match at the 2024 U23 World Championships. She was also a two-time Fargo finalist and one-time champion. Macaluso was also the first girl to place at New York’s Division I Section IX Tournament.

Collegiately, Macaluso earned All-American honors wrestling for East Stroudsburg.

Earlier this year, the school announced that it was starting a women’s wrestling program, and the New York native Macaluso will be its first head coach.

Macaluso had this to say about girls wrestling at NYMA: “ At NYMA, we are committed to elevating athletes to the next level by providing training, academic support, and opportunities on and off the mat that they will carry with them for life. We’re actively seeking high-level girls from across the country who are ready to compete at the highest level, help build something special, and be a part of a new era at NYMA.”
