The University of Iowa women’s wrestling team received its second commitment from the high school Class of 2025 over the weekend. The most recent to commit to Clarissa Chun’s team is Fargo Junior champion Samantha Sachs (Glendora, CA).
Sachs is currently ranked #2 in the nation at 130 lbs. A champion in Fargo at the 130 lb weight class helped Sachs reach that ranking. In FloWrestling’s Class of 2025 rankings, Sachs is tabbed #10 overall.
Since Fargo, Sachs has taken fourth place at the Super 32 (132 lbs) and won Preseason Nationals (130 lbs). Earlier in 2024, Sachs was fourth at the U17 Trials at Women’s Nationals. She also was 4-0 at the Junior Duals in freestyle.
Amid her senior year of high school, Sachs is aiming for her first California state championship. She was a finalist in 2024 and third in 2023.
Sachs is the second blue-chip recruit from California to commit to the Hawkeyes from the Class of 2025. #4 Overall Isabella Marie Gonzales (Clovis East, CA) has signed with Iowa. Coincidentally, both wrestlers met in the first round of the CIF State Championships during their freshman year of high school (Gonzales prevailed).
The pair will join an Iowa team that captured an NCWWC national team title in 2024 - the first year they were eligible to compete in the college postseason.
