The recruiting Class of 2025 for the Iowa Hawkeyes got a massive boost today as the #11 overall senior, Harvey Ludington (Brick Memorial, NJ) committed to wrestle for Tom Brands’ team. Ludington is currently the top-ranked wrestler in the nation at 190 lbs.
Ludington’s decision came after he had decommitted to Arizona State. In the interim, Ludington also took visits to North Carolina, NC State, and Oklahoma.
Once the wrestlers from the Class of 2024 were taken out of the national rankings, Ludington slid into the #1 spot at 190 lbs. He solidified that ranking with a Junior National freestyle title in Fargo. Ludington is also a two-time Beast of the East finalist (winning in 2023), an NHSCA Sophomore National champion, and a Super 32 placewinner.
Back home in New Jersey, Ludington has made three state finals and captured a pair of titles. His first came as a freshman at 175 lbs.
Ludington joins fellow New Jersey native #8 Leo DeLuca (Blair Academy, NJ) in the Hawkeyes Class of 2025. Grabbing a pair of elite recruits will certainly help the Hawkeyes national ranking. After the DeLuca, the only other top-100 recruits in the Class were the Miller twins from Ohio (#64 Jarrel and #98 Ty).
Ludington projects as a 184/197 lber at the next level. That will be welcome news for Hawkeye fans - especially if he goes 197. Current starter, #2 Stephen Buchanan, is in his last year of eligibility, and true freshmen Jake Howell and Brody Sampson are the only other 197’s on the roster.
