Saturday was eventful for Wyoming Seminary senior Jude Correa. Not only did he win the Powerade Tournament for the third time, but he also announced he would attend Cornell at the conclusion of his senior year.
Before his announcement, Correa was the highest-ranked uncommitted senior left in the Class of 2025. MatScouts has Correa tabbed as the #10 overall recruit in the class and he’s currently ranked number one in the nation at 215 lbs.
In addition to the Powerade, Correa has won the Ironman twice, the Beast of the East once, and was top-five in both international styles at the 2022 UWW U17 World Team Trials. He has also claimed a pair of National Prep championships for Wyoming Seminary. Earlier this year, Correa was selected to participate in FloWrestling’s Who’s #1 dual and he got his hand raised after an 8-1 victory over California’s Nick Sahakian.
Sahakian and Correa have crossed paths a couple of times now. Correa was originally committed to Michigan, and then Sahakian did the same—and signed. That led Correa to explore his options. In early December, Correa traveled to Ithaca and visited Cornell.
Correa is the cherry on top of an impressive recruiting class for Mike Grey at Cornell. The Big Red can now boast three of the top-12 seniors in the nation (with #4 Anthony Knox/NJ and #12 Alessio Perentin/NJ). Cornell now has verbal commitments from eight of the top 53 wrestlers in the Class of 2025. It will certainly be in the running for the top overall spot in our recruiting rankings.
Correa will attempt to become the first Cornell big man to earn All-American honors (and more). Cornell has never had an All-American at the heavyweight or unlimited weight class - a stunning fact for a program that has been an NCAA team trophy contender for much of the last 20 years.
Though Correa is shorter than most of his counterparts, he does project at the 285 lb weight class. The Big Red does have a pair of potential heavyweights already in the Class of 2025 and some young ones on campus; however, it’s hard to pass up a wrestler of Correa’s ability level.
