    Bo Bassett Decommits From Iowa

Earlier this evening, Bo Bassett, the #2 overall recruit in the Class of 2026 announced via social media that he has decommitted from the University of Iowa.

Bassett committed to Iowa in early February after a long process that saw him initially list about 80 schools on a graphic. Each week, he dropped a couple of schools from his list until he got a final group that included Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Rutgers, and Virginia Tech. Bassett later acknowledged that his final four included Iowa, Oklahoma State, Penn State, and Virginia Tech. Presumably, those other three have an inside track for his services.

Since his commitment in February, Bassett won his second Pennsylvania AA state title and was third at the U20 US Open. A month later, Bassett went 1-2 at the Senior World Team Trials. He did post a win over 2024 NCAA runner-up Beau Bartlett. Bassett then went to the U20 Trials and advanced to the best-of-three finals, where he fell to Lehigh All-American  Luke Stanich in three matches. Stanich was also the opponent who defeated him at the US Open.

Not only does Iowa lose Bassett, but they are likely playing catch-up in the recruiting process for Bassett’s brother Melvin Miller, the top recruit in the Class of 2027. Younger brother Keegan is also a strong prospect in the Class of 2028.

We’ll certainly have more about the developments in this portion of the Bassett recruiting saga.
