#4 Overall Junior Burnett Commits to Penn State

The top-ranked team in the land, Penn State, continues to prepare for future dominance with another big win on the recruiting trail. Earlier this evening, Cael Sanderson’s team received a verbal commitment from the #4 overall recruit in the high school Class of 2027, Grey Burnett (Perrysburg, OH). Burnett is currently ranked third in the nation at 126 lbs.

A bronze medal in freestyle at the 2025 UWW U17 World Championships is a reason why Burnett earned such a lofty ranking. This was the fourth time that Burnett placed at the UWW U17 Trials. Before winning in 2025, Burnett was third in 2024 and a finalist in 2023. Also in 2023, Burnett finished third at the Greco Trials.

Later in 2023, Burnett won the 16U freestyle national title in Fargo. He is also a two-time placewinner at the Super 32. Next week, Burnett will attempt to win an Ironman after placing seventh and fourth in his first two attempts.

Burnett has won Ohio DI state titles in each of his first two years at Perrysburg High School. If that name sounds familiar to Nittany Lion fans, it’s the same school that produced current freshman star Marcus Blaze.

With Burnett verbal, Penn State now has commitments from three of the top-eight juniors in the nation. He joins #2 Landon Sidun (PA), #8 Gavin Mangano (NY), #126 James Whitbred (PA), and #146 Will Soto (NY) in Penn State’s Class of 2027. Iowa and Virginia Tech have recently made additions that state their case for the best recruiting class in 2027. Now, Penn State has countered.

Burnett looks like a potential 133 lber at the next level. With a lot of young talent down low, things could get crowded for Penn State, but they’ll figure it out.

Before committing to Penn State, Burnett also took visits to Nebraska and Ohio State.
