Recruiting in the Class of 2027 is off and running! Sunday the 15th of June marked the first day that college coaches could have official contact with rising high school juniors. Today, we had the first commitment from the Class of 2027 as two-time Iowa 3A state champion Nico DeSalvo (Southeast Polk, IA) committed to Minnesota.
DeSalvo is the #72 ranked prospect in the Class of 2027. He was ranked #13 in the nation at 113 lbs in the post NHSCA rankings, but is currently not in MatScouts national rankings.
In addition to his two Iowa state titles, DeSalvo was third in 16U freestyle in Fargo in 2023. Before his sophomore season, DeSalvo finished third at USAW’s Preseason Nationals.
Minnesota already has an excellent Class of 2026 recruiting class lined up with six top 200 recruits - four of which are in the top 100.
DeSalvo projects at 125 lbs which is a weight where Minnesota doesn’t have a long-term answer.
