#25 Dekraker Flips Commitment to Minnesota

Minnesota got some good news on the recruiting front this morning as their staff received a verbal commitment from the #25 overall recruit in the Class of 2026 Tyler Dekraker (Chantilly, VA). Dekraker was previously committed to Big Ten rival Ohio State. Dekraker is currently ranked #11 in the nation at 132 lbs.

Dekraker is coming off a season where he made the Beast of the East finals and finished fourth at the Powerade. He would later move up a weight class prior to the high school postseason and won a Virginia 6A title at 138 lbs.  In the spring and summer of 2024, Dekraker earned All-American honors at the UWW U17 Trials and in Fargo. At U17’s he was third in freestyle and then was fifth in Junior freestyle in Fargo. That marked the second time he placed at UWW’s and the third time for Fargo.

Minnesota will go into the 2025-26 campaign with two-time All-American Vance Vombaur as the starter at 141 lbs - Dekraker’s projected weight. They also have a commitment from the Class of 2026 at this weight, #79 Mason Carlson (Syracuse, UT). Perhaps the Gopher staff has different weight projections for the pair.

With Dekraker’s commitment, Minnesota now has three top 100 recruits in the fold for the Class of 2026 and five Big Boarder’s total.

While in the initial recruiting process, Dekraker took campus visits to Ohio State and Minnesota, along with Arizona State, NC State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech.
