Recruiting for the Panther Train got its first passenger from the Class of 2027 as Hayden Schwab (Don Bosco, Iowa) announced his verbal commitment to Northern Iowa. Yes, that is Hayden, the oldest son of UNI head coach Doug Schwab.
The younger Schwab is a two-time state finalist in Iowa's 1A division. He was a runner-up as a freshman in 2024 and a state champion in 2025 at 120 lbs.
Schwab has placed four times in Fargo, winning double 16U national titles in 2024. Also in 2024, Schwab made the 2024 U17 World Team in Greco-Roman. Earlier this year, Schwab made the best-of-three finals in the UWW U17 Trials in freestyle. About a month later, Schwab competed up an age group and went 1-2 at the U20 Trials.
Though his father is the UNI head coach, Hayden did take an official visit to Cornell and was slated to visit Iowa this weekend. Two weeks ago, Hayden took an official visit to UNI.
Schwab is the #15 overall recruit in the Class of 2027 and is currently ranked second in the nation at 113 lbs. At the next level, Schwab projects as a 125/133 lber.
