It is that time of year again, folks. Fantasy College Wrestling time.
We start the 2026 campaign with a bang having four pretty major tournaments with lots of D1 (starter) competition and listed entries. While on paper there are a lot of duals on the schedule, only nine are D1 vs D1 for fantasy purposes.
It is a long season (17 weeks!), and an emotional roller coaster at that. So let me give you some quick tips to hopefully make this season a championship one.
- Know the Rules: Your league is probably Standard Scoring (win by Dec = +3, loss by Maj = -4, etc etc). But if your commish or league is feeling wild, maybe you lose points for a MFF. Do you have unlimited add/drops or only two per week? Is this a league for just the regular season or are you carrying it over into Nationals? See, things can go sideways quickly.
- Add/Drop Like It’s A Business: We all have favorite wrestlers and teams. But there are only so many roster spots. Just like in fantasy football, injuries happen, drop-offs happen, and more times than not you are going to have wrestlers that just dont have any competitions. If they ain't wrestling, they ain't scoring. You’ll have to make a lot of tough choices, but sometimes it's better to have a better matchup than hurt your functional wrestler’s feelings. Speaking of matchups…
- Look for the Matchup, Don't Force the Matchup: it's not always about quantity, but quality. Of course quantity plays a big part, but sometimes getting the "guaranteed" tech in a dual is better than taking the risk at an open tournament with the potential of 4-5 matches.
- Redshirts Are Wrestlers Too: just because they aren’t starting in that ranked dual and going to Mom&Pop Open instead doesn't mean their points don't count the same.
- Just Because He’s Entered, Doesn’t Mean He’s Actually Wrestling In That Tournament: Self explanatory. You will see that teams love to apparently just spend registration fees on wrestlers that ultimately don't go to the tournament they are scheduled to compete in. It happens. A lot. Get used to it.
A reminder of some important rules:
- Wrestlers entered at a weight must compete at that weight or else their results will not be counted. Wrestlers in the “Floater” spots can compete at ANY weight and accumulate Fantasy points.
- A wrestler will LOCK on your roster at 12pm ET on the day of their first competition for the week. (refer to the SHP’s Week Preview)
- Only results against D1 competition (starters, backups, and redshirts) will count towards Fantasy Points.
- Check your league settings to know how many add/drops are permitted per week.
