Wrestlers injured in van crash on way to Disney Duals

Nine individuals were injured when a 15-passenger van flipped on an Alabama highway while on the way to a wrestling event at Disney World in Florida midday Monday.

The Ford van was carrying 11 individuals at the time of the crash in Montgomery County in central Alabama. Nine were hospitalized, some with serious injuries. At least one individual required surgery, and is now in stable condition, according to WHNT-TV of Huntsville, Ala.

The van, carrying athletes from the Warrior Wrestling Club of Shelby County, was headed to the Disney Duals wrestling tournament in Orlando.

The wrestling club has posted this message on its Facebook page:

“Earlier today, a group of wrestlers from AL and TN headed south to compete in the AAU Scholastic Duals at Disney. During the drive down, one of the vans was involved in an accident. All parents have been informed. With respect to the parents and wrestlers we will not be disclosing any names or injuries. All we ask is for your prayers.”
