The week ended (we think) with another All-American entering the transfer portal. Today, Wyoming’s Jore Volk's name appeared in the portal.
Volk is 54-21 through two-plus years at Wyoming. In 2024, Volk earned All-American honors after finishing seventh in the nation at 125 lbs. That tournament saw Volk lose in the first round, but battled back with four straight wins to clinch All-American honors. To ensure his spot on the podium, Volk downed top-seeded Braeden Davis of Penn State in sudden victory in the bloodround. He finished his tournament with a 4-0 shutout of Big 12 foe Tanner Jordan.
Before the 2024 national tournament, Volk captured a Big 12 Championship and earned the #5 seed in Kansas City.
As a true freshman, Volk finished fifth in the Big 12 and went 1-2 at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
Volk started the 2024-25 campaign with a pair of dual wins before taking on Jordan at the All-Star Classic. He got his hand raised after an 8-2 victory. Shortly after the All-Star Classic, Volk lost matches on back-to-back days to Troy Spratley and Antonio Lorenzo. The Lorenzo loss marked his last appearance of the year and in early-January Volk announced that he would miss the remainder of the season due to an injury.
Volk came out of high school in Minnesota as the #62 recruit in the Class of 2022. He should have two years of eligibility remaining - as he only saw action in four bouts in 2024-25.
With quality 125 lber’s always in high demand, I’d expect lots of interest in Volk.
