Virginia Tech's Carter to miss rest of season

BLACKSBURG -- Virginia Tech junior 141-pound wrestler Devin Carter will miss the remainder of the 2013-14 wrestling season with a torn hamstring, according to Virginia Tech team surgeon Tony McPherron. Carter suffered the injury in a match in Las Vegas and forfeited out after his match.

A native of Christiansburg, Va., Carter was 12-0 on the season and ranked third in the country by most major polls. He earned All-America honors two seasons ago at 133 pounds before redshirting last season.

"Devin will have surgery next week to repair a torn hamstring,” said Tech head coach Kevin Dresser. “Devin is a leader and a role model for Virginia Tech wrestling. His presence will be greatly missed. I do feel confident in saying that he will work through this setback and be better than ever next season. We will monitor his recovery as we get this team ready for 2014 and eventually the postseason."

Carter will be a redshirt senior next year.
