UNI cruises to 30-10 victory over SDSU

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Bonus points at four weights propelled No. 14 UNI wrestling to a 30-10 win over South Dakota State.

UNI improved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big 12 while SDSU fell 1-4 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 duals.

The Panthers jumped out to big early lead with a first-period fall by Jay Schwarm at 125 pounds. Schwarm now has 26 career falls with 21 of those falls coming in the first period. He needs just three more pins to crack the top 10 for most career falls among all Panthers.

At 133 pounds, Jack Skudlarczyk earned his first dual win and beat SDSU's Spencer Huber for the second time this season. His 9-4 decision pushed the Panthers up 9-0 in team scoring.

Josh Alber, Bryce Steiert and Taylor Lujan all grabbed tech falls at 141 pounds, 165 pounds and 174 pounds, respectively. Alber's nine takedowns was a season high for any Panther in a dual this season. Steiert sealed his win in the first period, and Lujan got the tech fall in 4 minutes, 57 seconds.

Drew Foster edged out SDSU's Zach Carlson 3-1 at 184 pounds to keep the momentum in favor of the Panthers.

Izaak Shedenhelm earned his first victory at heavyweight since moving up from 197 pounds mid-December.

UNI is now 39-5-1 against South Dakota State, and head coach Doug Schwab is 4-1 against the Jackrabbits.
