    UM-Duluth Hall of Fame to welcome ex-wrestler Lundgren

    Trevor Lundgren, a wrestler at University of Minnesota-Duluth in the late 1980s, is among the six members of the Class of 2015 of the UMD Athletic Hall of Fame, the school announced Friday.

    Lundgren came to UM-Duluth from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota in 1986-87, making his mark over the course of his three seasons as a Bulldog wrestler. The Staples, Minn. native was a two-time Northern Intercollegiate Conference champion at 142 pounds, and twice a NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) All-American, earning the Gorriaran Trophy for the most falls at the NAIA championships as a senior in 1989. That year, Lundgren was team captain, and earned the school's Outstanding Senior Male Athlete. He concluded his mat career at UMD with an impressive 95-12-0 overall record. After graduating in 1989, Lundgren served as an assistant coach at his college alma mater.     In addition to Lundgren, other former Bulldog athletes to be welcomed into the University of Minnesota-Duluth Athletic Hall of Fame include Kathy Haakonson Collman (volleyball and softball), Heather Hamilton (track and field), Mike Peluso (hockey) and Tom Stoll (football), as well as long-time Bulldog supporter Dave Goldberg.

    The 18th UMD Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will take place Jan. 16, 2016 at noon at the Holiday Inn and Suites' Lake Superior Ballroom in downtown Duluth. Steve Jezeierski, the radio and television play-by-play voice of both UMD football and men's hockey for the better part of the 1980s and early 1990s, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. The six inductees will also be recognized later that night at the UMD-St. Cloud State men's hockey game.

    Since its founding in 1991, the University of Minnesota Duluth Athletic Hall of Fame has welcomed 126 inductees, representing 20 sports. Requirements for athletes to be honored include outstanding achievement as a member of the UMD varsity teams for not less than two years, and significant athletic contributions after leaving UMD.
