Much was made last week of comments by Oklahoma State head coach David Taylor at a preseason press conference about the potential for a dual with five-time defending national champions Penn State. Taylor claimed he has left an open date on the Cowboys 2026-27 schedule and will continue to do so until a dual with his former team is agreed upon.
This is a dual that most college wrestling fans clamor for as the two teams finished one-two at the NCAA Championships earlier this year, in only Taylor’s second year at the helm in Stillwater. With a returning nucleus that includes three NCAA champions (as true freshmen) and the #1 overall recruiting class in 2026, Oklahoma State could eventually be the team that unseats Penn State as college wrestling’s current dynasty.
