The 2026 Offseason Coaching Carousel (7/21/2026)

The movement continues on the coaching front as a pair of vacancies were filled on Monday and InterMat learned of a third that has been announced.

The bulk of the attention during Monday’s announcements centered around Stanford’s hiring of Myles Amine - and rightfully so. Amine was a five-time All-American for the University of Michigan between 2017 and 2022. In each of his last two years in Ann Arbor, Amine captured Big Ten titles and earned the #1 seed at the NCAA Championships. Amine’s high-water mark was a runner-up finish in 2022 and he never finished lower than fourth at nationals, despite moving between three weight classes.

In the midst of his collegiate career, Amine also found success on the international stage, earning a bronze medal for San Marino at the 2020 Olympic Games. Amine was San Marino’s first-ever Olympian and first medalist. He also competed at the 2024 Olympic Games and was San Marino’s flag-bearer at the closing ceremony.

In addition to his Olympic success, Amine was also a 2023 World bronze medalist, a European champion, and a three-time European silver medalist.

This will be Amine’s first collegiate coaching position. The Cardinal had a vacancy after Hayden Hidlay left the staff for his alma mater, NC State.

Another announcement from Monday featured Gary Traub returning to Oregon State as an assistant coach. Traub was a two-time national qualifier at Ohio State and Oregon State. He became a fan favorite at Ohio State after entering the lineup as a little-known backup heavyweight and working his way up to a sixth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships in 2020. Two years later, wrestling at Oregon State, Traub finished as a runner-up at the Pac-12 Championships and advanced to the NCAA bloodround.

The Naval Academy also rounded out its coaching staff for 2026-27 with the hiring of Peyton Walsh. Walsh is no stranger to Annapolis, as he was a three-time national qualifier for the Midshipmen between 2013-15. As a senior, Walsh won the EIWA Championships and earned the #8 seed at the NCAA Tournament.

Walsh is probably more known for his work on the Senior level in Greco-Roman with the All-Marine Team. He was a 2020 Olympic Trials runner-up at 77 kg and a 2018 US Open runner-up. Walsh also won a Pan-American title in 2021.

Before his hire, Walsh served as the RTC director for the Navy Wrestling Club. He’ll take over a spot on the Midshipmen coaching staff after Barry Davis’ retirement.
