Sundgren named CAA Wrestler of the Week

St. Cloud State University freshman John Sundgren (Blaine) has been named North Central Conference Wrestler of the Week for his recent performance over the week of Feb. 4-10.

Sundgren, who wrestles at 157 pounds, went 2-0 in SCSU's two duals this past week, pinning fourth-ranked Travis Eggers of Upper Iowa to lead No. 11 St. Cloud State past the No. 9 Peacocks 27-12 on Feb. 10, in St. Cloud. Earlier in the week Sundgren topped St. John's University wrestler John Vaith 11-4 in a 28-9 Husky victory over the Johnnies on Feb. 8, in St. Cloud.

St. Cloud State has now had two consecutive Wrestlers of the Week, and three total on the 2007-08 season. Nick Wilkes (Onamia) was honored last week, while Brad Padgett (Buckley, Wash.) earned recognition back on December 4.

The Huskies moved up five spots in the latest NCAA Division II poll and are now ranked 11th with a 12-1 dual record. Sundgren is 18-5 this season. Of note, he attended Blaine High School and is the son of Jim and Kathy Sundgren of Blaine.

SCSU will wrap up its regular season with two road duals. The Huskies will travel to Bismarck, N.D., to face Mary on February 16 and then to Mankato for an NCC bout with Minnesota State on February 22.

The Husky/Marauder dual will begin at noon.
