    St. Cloud State announces team awards

    St. Cloud, Minn. -- Junior Nick Wilkes (Onamia) was named the St. Cloud State University Dean Weisman Wrestler of the Year recently at the 2006-07 SCSU Wrestling Banquet in St. Cloud.

    Wilkes posted an overall record of 18-8 and was the lone Husky wrestler to advance to the National Tournament. He also was one of two Husky wrestlers to be named the North Central Conference wrestlers of the week. Joining Wilkes as a Wrestler of the Week was Sonny Silva.

    Other awards include: Jairo Sandoval was named the Tough Man of the Year, Tim Whitley was named the Newcomer of the Year, and Gabe Suarez was named the Red-Shirt Wrestler of the Year.

    The Huskies also honored John Oxton, the winningest wrestling head coach in the history of SCSU wrestling, by naming him into the Husky Wrestling Hall of Fame. Oxton charted a record of 167-120-9, as well as coaching 37 All-Americans.

    Before the evening ended the members of the 2006-07 wrestling team thanked and congratulated the first year head coach, Steve Costanzo, by presenting him with an engraved frame commemorating his first season at SCSU.
